So I have a white truffle x Okie, photoperiod, Indoor and grown from seed.
She has been through a lot but was flipped to 12/12 on July 22 and started showing pistils within a few days. My math says she’s at day 40 of 12/12.
The buds are still relatively small but about right for this strain in week 5-6 of flower. The strain isn’t known for giant buds but the quality is exceptional.
What has me scratching my head is the fact that every single white pistil has turned brown and most have receded. I can’t find a white pistil anywhere.
I’ve grown this strain before and it’s a solid 10 week of flowering strain, give or take a few days.
Normally I don’t start looking at trichs until much closer to harvest, but I checked em out today and they look like week 8/9 trichs…..mostly cloudy and even a few ambers……I’m talking about trichs that are deep inside the bracts, not leaf trichs.
I know there’s no way they are as close to ready as they appear…..I certainly hope not as they haven’t went though their swell stage yet.
I’ve just never had a grow with all brown receded pistils and so many cloudy trichs with a full month to go.
Has anyone had this happen???
What are your thoughts??
Thanks gang…..always a pleasure to hear from you all.

If the trichs are ready I wouldn't wait personally (just me). That's the only thing I go by now, regardless of the time. Apparently when the trichs have gone all milky with a few amber, your plant is at or as close to 100% potency as you're gonna get. The buds swelling is not producing more THC, its just spreading the same amount over a larger bud. Good for weight in yield, but you could be losing potency by the day.

No one wants to tell someone to chop their plant too soon. But imho the trichs are king.

some pheno can finish faster than some others ...

It’s unusual to see all pistils turn brown so early. The trichomes looking like week 8/9 with a full month to go is definitely odd. It sounds like the plant might be maturing faster than expected. Sometimes strains can develop differently based on various factors. Keep an eye on the buds’ swelling and overall development. If the trichomes are mostly cloudy with some amber, they might be ahead of schedule. It’s worth monitoring closely to ensure they reach their full potential.

i deal with thrips rather often in summer, this is not thrips damages, just some minor burnt/dried spot...
So have I, and many times indoors, but you're free to believe as you wish.

Bullmark, those white dots are bug damage, check the underside of the leaves WITH MAGNIFICATION

this is what trhips infestation looks like:

beggining:
1504141 ak 48

late:
1504141 sweet deep grapefruitdinafemsweet deep grapefruit
1507869 sweet deep grapefruitdinafemsweet deep grapefruit

the shape of the damages, color and repartition through the fans of the leaves are not like thrips damages, just some minor burnt/dried spot near the end of flower on some leaves....

Again I don't care what you believe, that's obvious bug damage.
you're right to disagree, i m as well. and i care what you believe because i hate when people recommand a bug treatment on non affected plant to non experiencend grower, tho you did not recommand a treatment yet just checking with magnifyting glass ...

not bug damage at all ... burnt dried spot near the end of life of the plant ....

I didn't say "infestation" I said the white dots are obvious bug damage, possibly thrips.
as shown thrips not.

"obvious" bug damage, i'm curious to hear what make them so obvious to you ? if they are so obvious you'll easily find a link with a photos of similar damages attesting that's a pest with google right ?

until you provide some link(s) of similar damages associated to some bug, what's "obvious" is you're just guessing in the void

here you'll find a list of the most common cannabis pest, and believe me none of them damages look like that ... search yourselves pest by pest with google some photos of the damages for each ... believe me nowdays it's well documented across the net ...

but may be you've discovered a new pest no one ever heard about ?

Sorry to start such a debate but I definitely had and likely still have Thrips. I spotted some damage about 2 weeks ago and found quite a few of the larvae crawling around. I’ve even picked a couple of the adults off the buds…..they landed on a sticky sugar leaf and got trapped.
I’ve given the plant 3 treatments of Dr Zymes Eliminator and am hoping I got them all.
I was thinking maybe the spraying impacted the pistils causing them to turn. I dunno.
It’s weird I have one branch that shows something going on…..it’s yellowing/burning around the edges.
I thought it could be a K deficiency….most likely caused by a ph imbalance…???? But that’s a stab in the dark. Could be several things.
My temps are 77-79f with lights on and I’m not pushing them too hard……PPFD is around 700-750.
I’m growing in KokoBop from Fox Farms, which is a coco/soil blend, supposedly buffered at 6.3-6.8. I amend and top dress with a couple different dry organics.
The pic shows what I’m talking about……it’s a very concentrated issue, only affecting one branch of the plant.
With only a few weeks left or maybe less,

I’m not too concerned.

No need to apologize man : ) those two dudes know their stuff and are just talking it out : ) couple of the nicest folks on this forum! : ) starting a good debate should be celebrated lol! You’ve got some nice work there though! Looking great!

With only a few weeks left or maybe less,
I hear you on this! I went through this my last run. One plant had a pretty good start with some pests… it was starting to spread but wasn’t bad. I dunked the problem plant and kept shit going for another few days and then chopped because I didnt want the pest damage. It was a sacrifice for sure but and cut my losses (buds not quite finished) but didn’t want to spray anything that close to harvest.

I guess what im trying to say is just watch that shit closely! And dont let the thoughts of it all get to you ( i kind of let it stress me out too much) along with a few other factors WAY out of my control : )

I’ve used Dr Zymes during mid/late flower several times in the past with pretty good results. It’s all organic and according to the label consists mostly of citric acid. This is my first encounter with thrips though. I believe I read where thrips are born pregnant…..

Not a problem bull, I just wanted to make sure you knew there was thrips.

I don't know why this individual couldn't recognize obvious bug damage, maybe he should read up a bit, but that's not my business
