So most of those leaves you see that were browning, was from me rubbing them for the smell.

The whole grow, I couldn't get enough stem/leaf rubs. You can see it really good on the stems here. Scratch n sniff skunk!

Have you smoked more of the RKS? Are the flowers still holding the smell? I know that skunk bud has a tendency to start to loose the smell sooner than other strains. Just curious.

The 79 skunk bud cutting is not skunk. I don’t know how else to say it.
I let it go until 84 days within the time frame suggested and am more than disappointed. It looked done to me at 9 weeks of flower. The high is heavy like old home grown leaf. Makes ya tired as hell. Not anything like the original skunks(there were a few in the 80’s.) I’ve been looking for the real deal since the mid 80’s when I lost a killer skunk cultivar.
The hype and bullshit stories people use to sell cuttings or seed is crazy. If you advertise something as skunk bud it best be what you say it is.
The 79 isn’t horrible pot, its just not what we were all told it is. Sucks to be disappointed once again.

Gotta start asking buddies dads and grandpas if they have any seeds stashed away and hope they pop. Odds are against us to try and buy a seed/cut from someone. We have all been down that path before .

Yeah I've been smoking on the early branches and that rank fuggin smell and taste is still there!

Buds have the nasty smell in the bag and this joint right now is damn skunky! It has the rank skunk flavor up front, but now has a heavy fuel taste on the back end. Very thick smoke and it got gunked up with resin. The cure is making them both so smooth and full of flavor.

Know the thiols are supposed to fade with the cure, so I'll keep checking it and get a gauge of how long it lasts. Will get fresh samples out to everybody so you can see how it cures

That sucks. There's some shady and questionable shit about them with multiple strains, plus nobody found skunk in the seeds yet either. Both of my 79 phenos smell similar to each other, like onions & garlic, but they're not even close to my other skunks.

Agreed, if people are paying big money for seeds & clones they better be close to what they're supposed to be.

I have 2 skunks that just finished stinking up the whole block You have 1 post, zero plants, no skunk. Now that's what I'd call jack shit

Hey I remember reading on one of the forums that Sam Skunkman said his recipe for the Skunk was Colombian x Afghani, then he backcrossed it / selfed it, then took that progeny and crossed it to acapulco Gold.

Not sure if you're trying to retrace his steps but that was supposedly the way he did it. I'll see if I can find the post where he describes it in full detail.

The next class of skunks are moving right along! These all came from seed so I'm starting some more pheno hunts. The first ones that popped so far:

80s Afghan Skunk Heirloom

This one I'm really stoked about!! The leaves look very similar to the skunk plants I saw growing back in the late 80s/early 90s. I've been hunting down these leaves all year!

This is supposed to be the Skunk #1 RKS...but only time will tell!

Looks like my project just changed! Already have balkhi x columbian. Looks like im ordering mazar I sharif for step 2.

If you have the space for it then I'd use both the Balkhi & Mazar to see what expressions pop up. Balkhi is generally considered to have very intense smells so I wouldn't totally rule it out.

The Mazar that Sam used was pre Soviet invasion, and a lot of the genetics were lost during that time.

Definitely have some work cut out for you but that's an awesome project!

Thanks bro! Looks like I got 2 mazars on the way! Project lengthens, but becomes more interesting! Love selection opportunities!! Looks like balkhi area is very close to mazar area. The mazar has even been called the balkhi, so looks like in right area for the affy that did it. If I don't find THE skunk, I'll at least have a new skunk type for fun!! Really hope the thc farmer get the kudos for bringing the skunk back. Everyone is hunting hard! It's on the comeback, and thc farmer is making it happen! Great luck to you skunk farmers! Let's bring back the nasty!!
