My cats are like dogs, they greet me at the door and will full on run in place on the vinyl floors trying to chase down toys that I play fetch with them. The young one hits the wall sometimes hard when he loses traction fucking cats 13 months old and already weighs 16.6 pounds. The breed is supposed to mature at five years old.

Well damn just used a soil volume calculator, the box I made is 66 US gallons as it sits, so digging down 15” would make it equivalent to 132 gallon planters or just under 18 cu ft, but we need to add in an additional 9, native soil
Will be added back into the mix

So far I’m thinking

1/2 bale of promix (near 2 cu ft)
1 10lb bag worm castings (1/2 cu ft)
1 bag of good potting soil (probably coast of Maine potting mix peat / coco / forest moss etc) (2 cu ft)
An additional 10lb bag of perlite (1.5 cu ft? I’ll check my bag later)
1 bag composted manure (1 cu ft)

That’s around 7 cu ft of material,
Still considering more

Maybe additional peat moss? Might not even use promix, might use a cheaper one, we’ll see then maybe some more top soil?

I really wish I could share this smell with you guys RN. It's "dude, bro" levels of check out this stank.

Chemmy, gassy, and skunk-ass. And it's super sharp. Cuts right through other smells around like a knife thru butter.

Horticultural pumice > perlite all day err-day. It's in my patch out there too. Several bags of it. Since I'm using hard well water all the clay and shale in my ground is actually a good thing, so I just cut it up with loam and pumice. Perlite is very lightweight, and even when saturated waters surface tensions can overpower it's weight. So it all slowly rises every watering, especially outside in ground.

I use it indoors too if/when I'm doing very large soil plants. It is inarguably superior in every possible way besides price. Until you add in you can screen it out and re use it indefinitely and with a near 100% recycle/reclaim rate. Then it's cheaper all of a sudden.


In pretty much every possible application outside direct rooting clones (which almost no one does in pure perlite anymore anyway), and small indoor containers (1/2 gal or under) a fine horticultural pumice will perform as well as or better than perlite.

Expended Volcanic impact glass (perlite) also isn't exactly a renewable resource. Conditions for it's formation are rare and it has to be mined from specific locations. Same with vermiculite. However pumice is being generated in easy to access locations constantly all over the world. It's just more expensive to process and move around in bulk once harvested.

Tbh I probably wouldn't be using perlite at all indoors if home Depot had got another pallet of the fine graded stuff after I bought it all for the outdoor patch , pumice is just better.

I haven’t chopped anything yet but my fingers are sticky. This one currently has a pine smell going on to it. I don’t remember that with any of mothers. I’ll be back 1 hour an 8 minutes before lights out. Chopping begins.
