My introduction to TOOL may have sealed it's fate for me.
A friend mentioned their first album and how progressive and technical they are and spiritual this and numerology that it was, so we went to his house and listened to it on a nice 5.1 system. And I was shocked, almost couldn't believe he wasn't fucking with me so I start riffing the bass lines approximately on his acoustic and decided I was playing it wrong or something. Was it 98 or so? Anyway my guitar-to-PC thing had a library for official tabs and the song was on it so I played that way. Then I thought it must be the lyrics, but mostly it was about gay sex. And that was kinda it for TOOL for me, I have no idea what people are seeing. Even the culture soup of symbols on the lead singer's guitar don't seem to make sense.
Am I still missing something?
