Sunday morning oily coffee

The right way to start the day😘

U don't have to cook the whole thing.
I have them cut in half. I did a whole one, made plans to be up all night to have it ready by next day. Only took 10 hrs. Should have been much longer. I've had a chuck roast take just over 8 hrs to finish ( before I understood how important it is to keeping the lid shut on a smoker)..
The hardest part is watching temp, and when to feed the fire.

Just like growing weed in a tent, it's easy 😆😆

They used to be one of the cheapest cuts of meat, we would smoke them all the time. Not anymore.
I buy a whole cow every couple years,. It's a chunk of cash up front, but once I break it down to the lb. it's thousands in savings. My last cow (900lbs) cost under $3.50 a pound total costs. U can't even buy a pound of cheap 80/20 burger at the store for that.

You store it for two years??
No, he eats it over two years 🤣 We used to buy them a lot. Son worked on a ranch so we got the cow for next to nothing but still had to pay for processing and packing. I would split a whole between three families, well two and my brother, and it lasts a good long time. And back then everything was papered, not vacuumed. If he is getting a 900lb hanging weight, he's bringing home 500-600lbs and depending on the cuts he's got it lasts a bit. We just don't eat enough beef anymore to justify the costs.

I think i'm in Love😍

I say this all the time too. I tell my daughter how inexpensive these cuts used to be. I used to buy flank steak and marinate it 24hrs Italian dressing, brown suger, 3 cloves crushed garlic. Maybe $1 lb. we'd pay. Makes me so mad with today beef or even whole chicken costs.😡

My father was a butcher for A&P his whole career back in the days when grocery stores would get beef halfs, which is just a beef skinned, gutted and cut in half down the backbone, pork also. You would think we would have had the best cuts in our house but the cheap bastard still bought home the cheapest cuts and then brag how good it was for the price while we all rolled our eyes. Had to go to friends houses to get a good ribeye. Such a travesty.

I did 9 pork shoulders for my son's Eagle Scout Party.
I smoke them for 4 hours and then wrap them up and oven bake them. Once wrapped they do not take much more smoke and it is cheaper and easier to oven them to finish.

I also have smoke roasted a turkey for thanksgiving and it was great just do not try and make gravy with the drippings.
It was awful. Like tea made with house fire ashes.

I'm hearing talk of two breakfasts. When we took an Alaskan cruise we'd have First Breakfast delivered to our cabin and then we'd go have Second Breakfast at the all you can eat buffet, but I digress as I just completed First Nap and it was Wonderful. Now I can cook a pound of Bacon while Whispering with eggs or pancakes or French toast or whatever else sounds good and working on Second Nap😘

I'm becoming the Nap Whisperer🤔
