Yeah, more or less! I like to stick a 6 foot bamboo in at a 45° angle to tie off on! That tip will start growing up then you pull it down tie it off and let it grow up and pull it down and tie it off and so on and so forth! Just keep chasing the tip out onto the bamboo! Kind of early! You may wind up with some pretty tall secondaries! There’s a lot of difference between our climates! I did it too early last year and wound up with some tall secondaries that needed support later on in the year to keep the entire plant from capsizing! Lol! With everything growing vertically instead of horizontally, things can get awfully top-heavy!
I wouldn't have imagined that structure from the CBD plant...pretty cool.
How cold is it up there? That’s usually the coolest area of the state around the bridge, soo locks, area.

Used to! Get more cola’s this way with vertical growth. If you play your cards right keep the plant lower so you don’t have to fuck with ladders! But you could put a welded wire cage around a bent plant and train the secondaries to grow horizontally exposing the entire branch to open sun and encourage vertical growth all along the branch! But that’s a lot of work! But probably how it should be done if you want a huge bush! There’s advantages and disadvantages!
Hey Gray, that CBD plant was the last left from the tall girls I grew under florescent grow lights. I kept it to see how it would adapt to the outdoors. It got a little sunscald but seems to have recovered, and I'm a little sad that I trashed the others.
Looks more like a Ficus tree, neat.
You have to be careful! You don’t do all the bending in one day! You pick three points along the stalk say 1/3 up, 2/3 up and the tip! The bottom 1/3 will be stiff so you’re just apply pressure and keep tightening the screws a little every day and it will come around to the direction you want to go! The other two are still pretty pliable so you don’t have much of a problem bending them but you still take your time with it. zip ties work good for that! It’s easy to tighten the screws with them! You are just encouraging the plant along! Not manhandling it! And you do not want to uproot it! Lol! But I think the constant pressure on the roots causes them to dig in a little better and get a stronger bite! And you do need a solid anchor point for the bamboo so you can pull against it! It’s not unlike a fishing pole under a little load!

I think my poles are a little short. LOLSweet! Nice cola garden! Easy to maintain. Easy to trim. Easy to see why you do it!
The way stuff grows back there I think you’re right! Might need eight! But if you have a lot of fours you can extend them out with a couple of hose clamps! I would want the tip a foot or two lower also! Might as well experiment with a few! Keep things fresh!
