I ask because I recently took some samples to 10 clinics in Sacramento and was told by two of them that they didn't accept vendors because they grew their own. One had a 6,000 sq ft grow on premises !!!!!!

Every one I know of has their own growers.. its a money making conspiracy.. I am just butthurt cause I aint making any of the money along with them..LOL Money is the bottom line plain and simple.. not one place I have come across has any TRUE "compassion". But hey we all wish we were on the money bandwagon.. I dont even care anymore. I already knew the greedy rich people would take "MOST" of it over. There are some good peeps on here though that will help folks out.. you know who you are. You are the ones who know whats up.. would be interesting to get some TRUE NON PROFIT collectives one day.. dont see it happening. Aint bitter, just jealous. LOL Smoke on guys!

But even under Prop 215 I don't think it's legal. Is it ? And the clinics are fully in view of state police, city police, the sheriff's dept AND the feds.

From SB 420: "While patients and their caregivers may form a cooperative or collective, the entity itself cannot cultivate marijuana.* Only patients and their caregivers are exempt from prosecution for cultivation — the entity that they form is NOT exempt."

This apparently new practice really gives the feds a reason to go after clinics.
Not a smart idea IMHO. Clearly greed is the main motive since I see no sign of patient prices dropping.

all you have to do is have anyone in the collective, including the owner, grow and its the exact same legality as me or your growing.

So, obviously its much more beneficial financially clubs to grow their own, instead of paying 2-5k for packs from other growers. Even in San Diego which is one of the worst climates in the state, there were only a handful of raids for the entire 2010 year with hundreds of clubs, so I'd place that at a low risk

When I get rid of my outdoor stuff (some years I had pretty big ones) I could sell them all for $100 an oz and I would still be making money. I sell them all easily at $250 and I jacked it up because people get rid of it again for $400 and if they are people who break it up into 8th they get $600. I give them room because you have to have some happy mules. So it's $250 even though $300 would still be snatched up.

But I could sell them for $100 because I freakin grew it outdoors. If I was a grower I would get together with other solo growers and flood the area with $200 an oz good quality weed. Then I would see who could hold out longer them or the solo growers. They won't last a summer. They would be losing money with all their overhead and selling for $200 an oz. Especially when the solo growers are probably going to have the better weed.

I am on the east coast and I had been waiting for legal weed for 38 years like everybody on the west coast was waiting and now you have it but kinda got cheated with the bait and switch. Illegal to legal but you can't sell yours any more. Bait and switch! It sucks. Close them clinics. Undersell them turncoat capitalists.

Why can't solo growers just get a license to grow and sell weed and be their own clinic. Then the best weed wins and that is fair.

then you have to open a store, work regular hours 9-5 maybe, manage storefront, AND grow

Squarepusher,

Is that the way you read it ? There is so much vagueness and ambiguity in SB 420 that I just can't unravel it. And if you have a 1,000 member co-op in Sac County does that allow you to grow 1000 x 6 plants if you are sending all your meds to this co-op/clinic/collective ?

There is nothing in Prop 215/SB 420 that says you forfeit your own rights to grow if you are part of a coop. In fact coop's are meant to grow for participating members.

Besides, I'd say 100% of large scale grow operations, over 30k watts are funded by dispensaries, normally hiring a grower on salary or commission to tend to it. In Colorado, there are several 400kW + facilities, all completely legal and inspected by govt' officials. These are mostly all funded by dispensary investors as well, with master growers being paid a salary of between 100-200k according to Moonshine, which is a Master Grower.

With the coming of possible mega facilities in Oakland, its possible the days of average growers selling 'extra meds' to clubs is coming to an end. Even the outdoor crop this year was going for 800-1500 for average quality, maybe a bit higher for good quality.

That being said, I would never go over 99 plants in one location.

Nice article ale,,

Seems to me that members of a 1,000 strong collective would probably consume 1/4 oz a week = 250 oz or about 15 lbs. A grow that produces that amount each week is certainly defensible - and quite large.

You're right of course. It doesn't mention your individual rights in that context at all. But Prop 215/SB 420 is infamous for NOT saying things so that a judge or jury can feel free to interpret any way they want to and fill in the blanks themselves. Don't think it was written with that intention, but that is the result.

Square,

Are you talking about CA ? I think you may be a little niave. From talking to hydro store owners in my area there are quite a few people with 50K grows in barns and warehouses, who during the summer are growing 400 + plants OD. Obviously I haven't asked for phone #'s.

this may be true, but who will buy it? Clubs may but it, allowing the grower thousands in profit, however why wouldn't the club just grow it themselves and make even more money?

The only drawbacks are logistics, finding staff skilled growers, however with coming 16 years of prop 215 on the books, especially in the last few years, many coops have gotten their act together with inhouse grows. Especially since its a rarity that they get raided, and a big collective having a big grow grants them even more legal protection since they say they can represent many patients.

Last year, good outdoor was going for 2200+, this years its more like 1700+. Indoor is following a similar trend, from about 3600+ last year, to maybe 3000+ this year ballpark averages.

The reasons for this would seem to be more growers overall, and more club growers with their own setup's

Square,

Most of the people I talk to are taking it out of state and have been for years.

Obviously I'm not going to go into details but there is a fearless band that are not afraid to run 70lbs regularly to the East Coast - even with CA plates. At that quantity OK outdoor is still fetching $2,600. I know because that's what we got in December.

Hash is still an enigma to the New Yorkers. Yet when they try it they can't believe how great it is. I see this as the future.

lol thats what happened in cali. outdoor market got flooded. driving prices down to 1-2k/lb for outdoor. most cant even get 250/oz here for their highgrade indoor. you got to be killing it to still get 4k/lb in cali.
dank indoor ogs get sold for 3000/lb everyday. same stuff that would be 5k back east.

its all relative.
a bunch of collectives have me as a "number" but i rarely buy meds...
harborside has thousands of members... but i bet only a few hundred actually get a 1/4 every week... most of the sales are prob made by people that visit like once a month. i mean there are like 20 new people there signing up every time ive been, they sell ~8lbs a day.

SB420..? Why are you looking to that? Look up People vs Kelley (California 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, IIRC).

The mega facilities will not be happening any time soon. Oakland and more than a few of its movers and shakers are under rather close scrutiny by the feds, not to mention that they currently do not have a city attorney willing to represent them specifically on the mega-facilities thing.

The indoor guys would probably take it tough with my plan because I could easily be thriving with 3k/lb heck I could at 2k.

It might get better with all the raids and such going on around various supposedly med states. The ones that had those huge, huge outdoor grows might not be as eager to do it this year. Ones like that and there are many can flood a market. Some of them are the clinics grows too so you can see they have tons of weed. Maybe their supply line will not be there if the feds come looking.

That brings it all the way back around to illegal weed was better than legal weed for much of the pot scene. The sellers for sure. The customers because eventually they will be limited to buying clinic weed or at the very least not have the selection of weed and the selection of different growers skills.
