can you use it with tap water or does it kill off the benificials that may be in it?

Yes, you can use it with tap water and no, I haven't found that it impacts bennies. The product that I have is not alive, nor does it have anything that appears to have once been alive (when scoped @400x).

I saw a thread on here where they put it under a micro and let it dry. They saw the same crystalized look that comes from a synthetic nutrient. A salt like build up. I think its more chem then they lead people to believe.
(Still works like a MOFO though)

I didn't let it dry, I scoped it wet, but it did make a really neat pattern on the slide after it dried. I can't remember if I scoped it a second time after that.

Sea... would you be willing to do me a favor? Pretty please?? :-)

Take a bit of the RE & place it in cup with either a little bit of sugar water and/or a light 1/4 strength nute solution? Maybe at the rate of .5ml/gal... and just let it sit for 3 days. Then take a new slide to see if anything microbial is swimming around?

Thank you so very much!!! Like Chronic said... this would be a big change in my understanding of it. Thank you!

Thats a good idea Mlway, what if its dormant bacteria that comes alive once water and something like sugar/molasses activates it. I think DesertSquirrel was going to test it as well.. I dunno if he ever got around to it though.

If not im going to start stacking it with a h202 :)

To clarify, CM, et alia, when I scoped I didn't even see dead cells that would indicate dead microbes. I saw what appeared to be very tiny crystalline structures, and spots that I could not enlarge enough to make out, even at 400x-500x magnification.

I can do that, but if I just set out water + sugar of any sort, it will begin smelling like beer fairly quickly. I think we've got us a few yeastie beasties floatin' around up these here parts. I would have to restrict air flow around it, a large Ziploc should handle that alright I think.

I can do it another day, please remind me, because today is Costco day so we're goin' to Folsom.

Only premade nutes I have are... PBP Grow & Bloom, Floranova Bloom... got me some Fox Farms Big Bloom, and... I'd have to go downstairs and see what I still have on hand. If I use Dr. Earth that would have to be made into a tea and it's already got mycos in it, no go on that one.

Props for clearing this up for us Sea & DS!!!

So Medimary asked me to throw the roots excel under the microscope, specifically looking for living microbes.

From what i could tell upon looking strait from the bottle, nothing is alive. However im going to culture some in potato auger to see if anything comes out.

Interestingly after it dried it took on a crystalline pattern like any other salt based nutrient would.

pics of RE wet..

So what do you think the hidden non listed ingredients are? IAA/IBA?
Hydrogen Peroxide? Does it bubble/foam up similar to hydrogen peroxide does?

Introducing Roots Excelurator
So we are here this morning talking about House & Garden products and we are going to start with Roots Excelurator. Roots Excelurator is the top showpiece in the House and Garden nutrient line. It’s a root stimulant that actually works by forming a membrane around the roots. It’s full of beneficial bacteria and fungus. It protects the plants’ root system from the harmful bacteria of pythium or physarium and will actually rid your plants of any of these root diseases. It’s the most powerful roots stimulant on the market at 1.1 mils per gallon. Intended use for a Roots Excelurator is actually as a vegatative and rooting stimulant , it is used through the cutting and seedling stage, all throughout the entire vegetative stage no matter how long you go, and for about the first half of flowering. On a 6 week cycle, your gonna use it up until about the 3rd week of flowering. On an 8 week cycle, your gonna use it up until about the 4th week of flowering, on a 10 week cycle the 5th, and a 12 week cycle the 6th. Always at 1.1 mils per gallon. You’re gonna use it weekly. And you do not, very important, you do not want to use Roots Excelurator with any sort of hydrogen peroxide product. Anything that will kill benefical bacteria will make Roots Excelurator null and void.

Edit, could it be cellulase enzyme?

still doesnt clear it up 100% i really wanted to try some as im having some issues with a particular strain.. but i use tap water. and i dont even let it stand but my results are fine.

on a simlar note, you can buy drops from the pet shop for aquariums which get rid of the chlorine in tap water.

who here uses RE with tap water and still gets good results?

I had to use tap for over a month... and still added RE at .2~.4ml per gal... I thought it worked just the same.

When this stuff sat out in a 5 gal bucket for a few days... it had a shiny coating up top + bubbles... and the solution seemed a bit thicker... as if something biological was growing in there. A bucket that sat upstairs (in heat) was the 'worst'. Stark contrast to a bucket of plain nutes sitting for the same period of time.

It showed no improvement in the side by side, and roots cuts no faster then plain water....

Why is everyone on its nuts?

It is cytokinin, kelp extract + humic and folvics btw.

I just want to see if it can grow a culture, which I feel I have evidence of. Have never taken a slide & looked under a high-powered scope, which would be really cool if that last, final step could be taken. Why stop just short of making a conclusive test?

Here's my issue(s):
~ when first came out, rep in Vegas was spreading the 'rumor' that it contained a bacterium in it... quite specifically, an anaerobic bacteria, which is unique compared to all the other biological inoculants out there
~ around that time, everyone started to change labels to hide info about the active ingredients & CA issues with distribution
~ the solution has a suspended form of the bacterium, perhaps a spore, dunno the specifics

This is what I've based all my uses of the shit on. And the solutions I mix with it, appear to have something biological growing in it.

Overall, I've never noticed explosive growth vs my other means of cloning, but I strike cuttings well. However, as a water-borne inoculant, I haven't issues with DO since switching to it years ago.

I would like this cleared up just like everyone else... perhaps even more so.

Thanks you for the efforts DS! Interesting stuff. Try a gal with some sugar in there, maybe a light nute solution (chem) & take a new slide... if it has nothing biological growing in there, I'll shut up. Peace.

Sorry for not getting on this yesterday, MIWay. Dave got the lawn tractor working and I spent a good part of the afternoon cutting shit down with it. Then I broke it (again). :(

Reps probably don't know the actual ingredients. They are just told "Tell the customer is gives bigger, faster roots" ie, need to know basis. Given my experience with sales reps, they often have quite good imagination :) Don't get too mad at them, they likely don't even get paid that much.

I've never actually seen RE. Does it look brownish, like a fulvic/humic blend would? Does it smell like humics/algae?
