maybe it was the washington or oregon states that was more restrictive and therefore why some nute companies don't sell there.

my understanding also is that a lot of the nutrient mixes aren't even accurate from the various manufacturers.

if people knew how simple it can be to mix up their own concentrated nutrients, you'd never go back. shit, for a couple hundred bucks in salts, you can make enough for a year. Jacks is certainly a nice fallback

nothing stays a secret long and there is nothing that a nutrient company puts in their solution that wasn't discovered somewhere else or has been around for awhile. hydro companies aren't innovators in any way... just profiteers.

honestly, i don't try to reproduce anything accurately other than Spurr's formula's. the only additives i use are some kelp and humic acid and i foliar every week with a 25ppm solution of Triacontanol. the only thing i'd consider trying would be Capit's bennies

but i grow in rockwool and don't want to run much more than that.

as a point of reference, it took me about 1.5 hrs to mix up 3 3gal concentrated solutions. (an A+B+C) the only reason it took that long is that i find heating up the water makes it easier to dissolve everything. that will give me about 7 40 gal reservoirs worth of nutrients at around a 1.7ec.

i use 3 different ones. a jewelry scale for the smaller stuff and then an ohaus for the higher weights. you can pick a decent scale up off amazon for under $60 that will go up to around 16lbs. just make sure you have weights to calibrate

i personally would not get a triple beam, more for liability reasons, but i did spend more on my digital ohaus.

in california you gotta be careful when growing commercially even with scripts. triple beams, lots of zip loc's, etc, will give them cause

you don't need a scale with Triac as they usually give you a measuring cup and i make about a gallons worth at 25-50ppm

measuring cup? what form is it in? mine is a 99% powder, but honestly i haven't used it much yet (was finishing off a bottle of magic juice first). all products with alfalfa on their oregon list are using it as a triac source to get around epa regs. same with 'kelp', for cytokinins. afraid we just have to experiment with amounts though (unless someone wants to pay for analysis and report back, sorry too $$ for my tight budgert).
