There are a few companies out there with auto light dep contraptions. I haven't seen one at a reasonable price yet. I saw the auto excel at sylvandales. Way too small and expensive. They need to make one 34x96 for $15k-25k and people would be all over them. I'm sure somebody will figure it out. Until then I'm pulling it myself.

Hey man. Does the tarp have to fully black out the greenhouse? I would think it would be difficult to drap a hoop house with a tarp and get it perfectly over the akwardly shaped greenhouse. But the moon shines plants that live doors with light anyways...thoughts would be appreciated.

Besides putting a super huge fabric tarp over a hoop house frame and putting rocks around the base...what other techniques are there for accomplishing this task.

Thanks again.

6mil plastic sheeting, the 20' wide rolls specifically... durable enough to last the entire season. $100 or so a roll, and that will last for a long time if you have a smaller greenhouse

How does your transition from depo to regular outdoors go? I'm up in Redding and I was thinking about putting them outside in late March in order to harvest before planting outdoors in June.
Not sure what you mean..But yeah, that's the Idea..start a light dep. in late march..
ThatGives you Nice May flowers,..and they are done in time to plant again in june;)

Man, if you were stuck on a mountain pulling tarps for 2 months while the summer fun rolls by you be looking for some automated relief as well. And I'm not talking about some backyard 12 x 24 greenhouse either. I'm talking about a little relief so I can catch a show or maybe go camping with friends.

Caregiven is right...2 layers of the 6 mil poly from the hardware stores. 1 layer of that stuff doesn't come close. The 5 mil silage tarp from farmtek is way thicker and white on one side and doesnt let any light through. Still need that other layer of 6 mil to be sure it's light proof. Wear and tear is bound to rip a hole or 2 so the 2 layers is a necessity either way.

There is a place here in mendo that can outfit a large GH for about 20k. Their system in new and not really tested yet but if it works its a good price.

Heres one more for you, these are the shit for light dep..

I've seen the Forever Flowering, and while very good, it's also very expensive. Far too expensive to make it a viable option for many. I've asked my husband to put his head to creating an automated covering system for a hoop-house scenario. Garage-door opener is where it starts.

Yeah the Garage door opener..I have been thinking a little..
It might be better to move the Bed in and out on wheels or something with the opener
(like foreverflowering)
Because getting the tarp to cover just right every time kinda might be hard.
but it hurts my head to think about it....lol
So im wait for your husband of some other farmer to show me how to make it;)
