With the many newbie growers like me, I thought a post documenting the first grow experience could be a worthwhile journey for new growers who join us afterward.

My grow room is a 4x8 by 8 tall and I have a 600w MH grow light. Pro Soil, with a few spray bottles. Nothing fancy. Digital Thermometer and the grow room is about 78 degrees pretty consistently. A good temp I think. :)

First, when learning about my grow room I went through about 50 tomato seeds with about 2 plants to show for it, so well worth the $20 in tomato seeds to get some experience and learn a bit about the process.

Now let's start the journey.

Laugh and Cry with me as we walk.
Yes, I am a better blogger than gardener, but I hope to soon change that.

Building the grow room: - Cost $350
A fun construction project, I basically built it like i was building a small bathroom/closet, framed it first, then added the panels (I used 4x8 sheets of plastic board, but plywood would work fine too).

I have included a small picture below, however here is a link to the room build-out: https://www.thcfarmer.com/community...room-closet-step-by-step-with-pictures.58604/

Selecting the Strain - Cost $155

This one was harder than you think. With more strains than kinds of Dogs... it was a tough one.
I started a post on 'Just pick 2 strains' and received some great feedback.
I selected an Afghan strain from a recommendation and can be purchased through the TCHBay at the top of the forums. Follow steps exactly and will receive your shipment in about 15-25 days most likely. To read more on that post:

Germinating the seeds -

For my testing w tomatoes I used the wet paper towel method and had good results. Once I dropped in the soil, my results were terrible. Basically only 6 out of 40 grew. Not good results, but chalk it up to cheap seeds and gaining experience, so no biggie.

I am soaking my seeds overnight in a cup of distilled water (read about this and trying to follow the advice from another post). Then putting directly into a pot of moist soil, covering with plastic wrap and putting in my grow room and waiting... God I hope this works.. :)

Today I put the seeds in water and soaked the pots. Pictures below. Tomorrow will give an update and then let the games begin. The first picture is just the seeds getting their soak on. The second are the pots, pre soaked and drying a bit for tomorrow's planting.

Yeah, while you're popping tiny seeds, turn off the huge light. It's worse than useless for now.

Today after soaking overnight, I placed the seeds, pointed side UP into the small hole I made in the pots. See picture. Also notice I only filled this pot ¾ of the way up, so that I can add soil as the plant grows, strengthening the roots (a trick I saw people doing with tomatoes), not sure if it will help, but just kind of experimenting.
Then I covered with plastic and placed in the 78 degree grow room. Now I have to be patient and hope I see something in 24-46 hours. Lets just hope I can grow these better than my failed tomato attempts!
