Well, it has definitely been a while since I've posted a log here. Been shut down for almost a year now. Had some landlord problems and I'm just now getting back under the lights.

I've got a 10'x6' space in the basement of my house. It's walled off with 2x4's and panda film. Four air cooled hoods with 1kw in each. Ourside air comes through the hoods and exits without co-mingling with the room's air. 8" Hepa filter on the FAI. Huge carbon scrubber with a 6" inline fan exhausts outside the room to bring in FAE.

I have no AC, as I'm going to be using a DIY chiller and a repurposed air handler from an old walk-in freezer. That is mounted on the ceiling in the center of the room. The fan pulls air up into it and forces it over the radiator coils filled with chilled water. I'm hoping this, along with a 10" max fan pulling air through the hoods, will be sufficient to keep the room cool, even in the middle of summer.

Just cut clones 4 days ago (Wednesday). We had two small plants of each, Urkel and God, and we COMPLETELY butchered them for every clone we could take. They looked so pitiful when we were done. But we got a total of 55! I'm pretty optimistic that most of them will make it through the rooting process. Its been a minute wince we took clones last, but when we were before, we had it down to a science. My wife cut the clones and scraped the bottom of the stem (removing the cambium?), and then I would cut the leaves all back, dip it in clonex and slide it into the plug. Only took us about 3 hours.

Those girls are up in the upstairs spare room for now. I've got my tent in there with a 4' 4-bulb T-5 over the clones. Once they root, they've got two destinies. The strongest 12-15 will be set aside to be moved downstairs. The remaining 37-40 clones will be potted and flipped almost immediately. I know I'll have a low yeild with them, but its just something to get bills paid in early February. Come the end of Feb, the rest of these girls will get harvested and that'll be the big payday.

The girls going downstairs will be a part of the next flower cycle (the first full one). They'll be vegged for 2-3 weeks, depending on how well they perform, and then once I feel I'll have a nice even canopy, I'll take a few clones for the next round and flip em into flower...

I'm hoping to get enough in the first four harvests to outfit the spare room upstairs into a second flower room. I really can't wait to be running with both rooms going full bore! I'm thinking about putting 4 1500w masterblasters in there.... :D

Oh, and I tossed in a picture of my last full harvest. 4kw in a 10x10 room, final yield was a little over three pounds, I think...

Thanks for the comment, SC! I know most of my stuff, that's for sure, but I have yet to yield over a P per light. Best I ever came was a little over 2.5 from 3kw, and that was my first run ever! I'll get there though. My goal is to be pulling as close to a gram/watt as I can by the end of this 12 month lease. My last run was .31 g/w. I think I should be closer to at least .75 by the of next October....

You can do it! The only thing stopping you would be if you were growing a strain with a terrible yield. I was able to achieve an elbow a light growing Chemdog D, which yields pretty well. I have faith you will meet your goal. All the best.

Well thanks, man! I'm really lookin' forward to this grow goin' well!

Well, its been a week since my fisrt post, and I wanted to give you guys an update. Things are going pretty slow, as is usual in the start-up phase of a grow. I've only got a few pics of root porn. My clones took freakin' forever to show roots. I'm gonna stop using rooters and rockwool completely and just go with aero clones from now on. I'm tired of not knowing what's going on with them. If I could have been able to tell after 5 days that there were no roots going, I could have found someone with a mom I could get cuttings off of and started over.

Well, I've got the entire room in the basement finished. There are a couple more tiny touch-up things I gotta do, but for the most part everything is set up. Still gotta hang the carbon filter and run ducting for that. That's gonna cost $25 for the ducting, cause I don't have any large runs of 6" ducting. Lol. The longest one I have is maybe three feet long...

Anyways, here's some pictures of everything! The pics start in the corner farthest from the door, and then go to the corner to the right of it (both in the top of the room so you can see the ducting, air handler, and lights).

In the pictures above, ou can see the tubing for the cold water feeding the air handler. It goes to the wall behind where I'm standing to take the pictures and goes into the un-excavated half of the basement (unfortunately the house only has a half-basement instead of a full basement :( ) where I have my DIY chiller running. At the top left of this next picture, you can see the two 1/2" tubes going through the wall and into the other side.

And then here's a better shot of the chest freezer:

Here's a shot of the two air intakes for the room. An 8" on a wye to feed the air cooled hoods, and an 8" hepa filter on the right for FAE.

Here are the buckets and a look at my scrog frames. I use 18" pieces of 2x2 so they are 20" in every dimension, and put three screw on each side to weave a grid across. The chiller there in the pic I'll be using in tandem with the DIY chiller if it's needed. I'm hoping the freezer will hold its own, but I'm not taking any chances. Lol.

Whoops! Hit "post" and wasn't quite done! Lol

Anyways, the last few are some randoms. Got a pic of my temp controller that switches three fans on and off (the 10" max fan for exhausting the hoods, the fan for the air handler, and a 6" booster fan between the two 6" hoods), a few of the outside of the room (we have the ballast shelf, the timer, the rez and controller bucket, anda long shot to include the exhaust ducting and the R/O filter), and finally, ROOT PORN!!! Lol

So, I'm gonna have to top feed for a week or so. Found a couple of the girls drooping this morning. The plugs must not have been low enough in the pots and the water didn't get to the bottom of them to give em water. 9h well. It's not like I'm not already in there three or four times a day. Haha

subbed, how does flow and gro compare to something like UC with grow rates

Honestly, I wish I could tell ya from my experience, but I have no clue. I've never ran a UC style grow before. Never even heard of the UC before I bought this system. Lol. Now instead of buying a UC for my next system, I'm probably going to build a hybrid between the UC and an MPB.

Wanted to post a couple pics of the girls in the system. They're almost all doing well. I might replace two of them though... they're just not responding well... :(

I usually top feed for first week or two so roots get down to the flood level. I've pulled 1.5lbs/light with the flo n gro, with 3 plants per light, 5 wk veg. My friend regularly pulls 1lb/light with 2plants per light with 6 wks veg

Yea, usually set that up, but I'm missing a bunch of my tubing fittings, and the hydro shop here in town is woefully understocked for things like that. I've just been hand-watering once a day in addition to the flooding action. It seems to be doing the trick.

Yea sorry, thats what I do too. Just hand water each site once a day for first week or 2 and by then roots have grown down good enough for flooding to take over.

Yup. I also put the controller bucket on top of a 2x4, so now I don't even have to worry about it. Lol

Got some new pictures. We are getting there! A couple of the girls have been tied down, but most of them are still catching up... the girls in the flood table are doing well though! I'm getting the room upstairs (9x11) set up this weekend, and I'm hoping to put it in 12/12 by Monday. I'm hoping a thouie over it will give me at least a 6 oz harvest by the first week in Feb...

Hey all! Here's a few new shots from this past week. Working on getting all the girls tied down and spread out, and setting up the room upstairs so I can start the flower cycle for the small flood table that's been ready to flip for a couple days now. Lol.
