Any reason not to put soil bags directly on the concrete floor when growing trees indoors?

I'm talking about 7-10 gallon smart pots w/ coco or sunshine mix fed by drippers or hand water...

Depending on where you are it can get cold. That and the mess if you over water are the biggest reasons. And bugs if your rooms not sealed

I've grown big plants directly in soil bags on the floor. Everything went well. Just make sure there's enough drainage holes in the bag and you're good.

Be careful with what you use to clean and mop your floor. If you use any chemicals or to much bleach, you can kill some of your roots.

I woudl want it off the floor to let the water drain freely and let the bottom of the pot air out. ROots always grown down. They are gravitropic. The bottom of the pot gets crowded and then no oxygen. Defeats the purpose of a smart pot or soil pot if the roots can't get out the bottom for air pruning.

Put them on cinder blocks, the ones that are 4" high. 4 x 4 x 16.

Tub
Easy solution is the mortar mixing tubs from lowes, Home depot....
Lift her off the ground fersures though. As easy as 3 4x4's running the length of the tub.
You can even install a drain.
$15 is cheap and you can use them over and over.

I use these on a second story op. Can't afford to let water leak there.

REDwhtBlu, Bugs! , ever scope a floor,,, unless you're bleachN often id stay off the floor to reduce bugs. Many root type pathogens live on the floor. Dont share run off from bags either if poss. caster wheel system and Tanglefoot ( if you can tolerate the goo) under a set up like Kendo just posted is what I use. From here you'll have more control of root temps and and soil/medium pathogens .

Note casters, nothing on the ground , multi crops, and dont forget to look at these farmers threads on Bed Growing, badd ass . I'm going to do some small beds to start out with, with small plants soon. as you'll see in the next pics

Adding drainage and casters to your catchers will enable you to go Hydro, soil, beds or whatever your heart desire as you've added more control to your garden

While you're at the hardware store go by the lighting section and you can find this material. In the previous pic you'll have noticed Hydroton clay rock combinded with this material in the bottom of trays will improve the drainage and turns you tray into a hydro system instantly if choose that but I'd FULLY recommend that you go with bagged stuff for starters. Bleach this stuff often and dont let the plants smell to much of the bleach either. Always rinse the shit out of the bleach if plants contact that surface.

RedWhtblu, I'll be posting a thead that will have something "Ghetto Grow" in the title. ya might check it out if I post it cause I'm showing cheap as ways to grow bud as cheap as poss for new growers. and I'll be dumping some college hort notes to keep to ol skool growers interest and as always trying to create controversy to stimulate grow technique conversation in the mths or 2.

I'd get sime sheets or the 1"thick foam boards and put em on that.
Concreat sucks heat.
Sit on some concreat for a bit.
It'll suck your butt cold!
Just my 2cents.....

This is a great idea, if you have a lot of pots u can put your run off dishes on the foam.

Peace
