Sorry to butt in but I was wondering....I have a Maui Wowie strain and she is just being a bitch! Very hard to clone.....does not like the flowering room at all and the 2 mothers I had in flowering we finally tossed because they looked like death eating a cracker. Seems to do OK outside in veg for the most part but wondering if you have any advice on just what exactly conditions I should give her to make her happy? Super humidity? Does not seem to like much heat really:-/ My partners say get rid of her but I just know there is something I am not providing that she needs and then she will be happy...or at least I hope so:) I have 13 clones that made it out of over 50. Here is a shot of them and a close up of one. Sorry to interrupt your thread but any advice would be greatly appreciated:)

What part of the world do you reside in?

WA state - right on the border with Oregon on the east side of the Cascades - high mtn desert really - average summer temps of 80-90 with next to no rain. Humidity is good at night though and we can provide misting or whatever necessary to give them what they need.

Interesting....I'm not sure why you're having bad luck with the plant. Did you start from seed or clone? My first guess is you just might have a bad pheno. Have you grown this plant to fruition?

Perhaps that is it but I got 50 cuttings from a med patient in Portland in January. Of those only 3 made it and I normally have a very good cloning success rate so that was a bit of a bummer to begin with. The ones I have are so delicate....look like an exotic special sort of Japanese maple or something but we babied them along and put 2 into flower. They were OK at first....not bulking up much...staying sort of fragile looking but then about 4 weeks into flowering they just started loosing all their leaves.....little non bulky buds and really just loosing health every day. Put them into our infirmary that is cooler temps and higher humidity but the flowering ones never snapped out of it and we disposed of them yesterday. The one outside is looking ok and these 13 clones look just like the other 3 did at this stage of development......light green.....delicate thin very sawtooth edge leaves. Healthy seeming but I wondered if they require a different regime of nutes or something? Just want to give them what they need but I am not sure that I am really doing that since the 2 in flower did so poorly. I have pretty healthy plants for the most part and just want these ladies to thrive and prosper so wondered if there was something specific to the strain that I am missing....thanks for taking the time to respond:-)

@Coot, nice plants dude, how did your Ortega burn? So no rot on the Ghash? Might have to get my pak out. The Yumboldts pretty stable?

@Grey...organics is sooo much easier, start with the same mix Old Haole is using if can....or just start with a recipe like Subs to get an idea of amendment levels and adjust accordingly. Osmocote is exspenive, I used to use it in my nurseries. Better to mix soil light and topress if needed. Maybe transition over a plant or two at a time.

@hawaiian....Happy Fathers Day, popped all my Master x's....gonna have a good look at those hoes.....only got 6 M x Frost though, maybe I'll pilfer some more off of Dirt tomorrow....

Have you ensured there are no bugs in the rhizosphere? Not overwatering? Looks like a little bit of nitrogen clawing.
Maybe talk to the person you received the cut from and see what they recommend/how they were growing it. People in Hawaii aren't really growing "Maui Wowie" any more.

Hi Gorge, are there other plants in the same soil mix? You know some of those sativa are pretty light feeders. Did you try flush one?

cmon....

trash. those are trash.
the thing you are not providing that they need, is the loving shelter of the compost bin!
LOL

seriously... by your own account, the donor plants the cuts came from already have been cast off because they couldn't make it thru flower. only 13/50 cuts rooted. and they look like what they do - they totally don't like the way you do things... i'm just saying three strikes you're out.

if i was you, id make copies of the healthy plants you have and just replace the crap plants with those. cut your losses and move forward and don't get cuts from the guys that gave you those again.

thats just me though... good luck whatever you do

Thanks Braddah! So far no mold with the Ghash it's nice and potent too, it smells like a strawberry shake.

The Ortega is nice smoke right before bed, it's some sleepy smoke, its kinda minty, gear oil/burnt rubber smelling

YB/LAW has been the most stable so far, found one nut sack on the bottom of the YB/L.A. Con.

They are in the same soil mix SurfdOut....happy frog. I did try flushing.....stopped feeding one of them all together to see if that was the issue but no difference between that one and the others. As to tossing them....I can but then the strain is lost to me until another "licensed grower" in WA state has one available that I can secure from them. We cannot just order seeds or get one on the black market and bring it into inventory with the rules that are in place. It is not that I need these 13 plants.....we have over 2000 healthy happy plants in our inventory right now....I just really wanted this strain. Some of my favorite weed I have ever smoked has been Hawaiian strains and that is the only reason I am persisting with these. I guess I will just keep trying to see if I can figure it out and they do much better outside for me so maybe just letting them stay outside will be the trick. I really just wondered if the strain itself has an particular requirements that I was not fulfilling and I have not been able to find a lot of info about growing this particular strain but saw you are doing just that and that is why I asked. Thanks much for the feedback though....I appreciate it:-)

maybe you should try some real hawaiian stuff?
because that "maui wowie" you are having trouble with... it ain't hawaiian.
its more like Hallmark LOL

you never worked in the black market side of things?

anyways, good luck with your venture....

Of course I have worked on the black market side of things but after putting so much effort and money into becoming "legal" I am not about to chance it all on one scraggly strain. I do have 3 Hawaiian strains in our 84 total strain list as well as the Maui Wowie already. I just don't like to fail so I am still trying to get it right on this one too so it is more of a personal issue, not financial or really anything else. No biggie....just thought if there was information I did not have on this particular strain I would reach out but it appears I will just have to keep trying to figure it out or remove it from our inventory completely:-) We have a few other strains that have been difficult to work with but I have been able to decipher what their issues are and deal with them and really all our strains are doing well...except for this one. The Maui Wowie will be gone if I can't figure it out this run. The one planted in our garden is doing well....getting sandblasted daily and still holding up good and looking great so maybe it will be OK through its whole cycle...time will tell at this point. Anyway....thanks again!

A pack of faceoff BX2 just showed up in my PO Box. Guess I better start clearing some space in my veg area.

Skunkdawg @ day 55

Anyone know anything on the mother - the Dog/Dawg???
Trying to dig this girl up for a place on the mantle.
She has been on Maui since early 90s, and came from Big Island... thas what I have gathered anyways. It is without a doubt the best tasting pot I have ever smoked.
Not as strong as the Skunkdawg, but a way more tasty treat.

Aloha

Really? I love strawberry shakes.....I used to get naked at parties and shake like I was cold and ask everybody if they knew what I was? Vanilla shake....lol
Breed them bitches!

@Spliff...cool dude, keep us updated with pictures if ya can. Yeah, the Platinum crosses turned out the best out of all the GGG testers from Lanai Buds...I'd totally run her again. Thicker OG buds that did pretty well with the grey mold. He should be bringing more testers by soon.

A while back, my friend posted a pic on IG of a puna Chemdog cut that had pink hairs. I tried asking for a cut but he didnt have it anymore but said it is still around puna somewhere.
