@Grey, what do you think she is? A localized Chemdog of sorts?

well... considering the dog/dawg has been on Maui since the early nineties (and if from Big Island, when did it show up? There's got to be an old uncle over there that has some knowledge!), i don't think she's part of the chemdog line.
But i also would not be surprised to find out the chemdog line is part of her!!!

I was about to go into a deep deep detailed hypothesis as to how & why, but I figure I'll save it until i get a few more dog grows under my belt. That, and either I get a sample of dog from Oregon, or they get one from me... I want to save the stoner logic for at least a little longer hahahaha

but..... I will spill these thoughts form my size 8 dome....

I used to speculate the Dog/dawg was the skunkva chemdog91... because Hawaiians ain't gonna say "eh brah, pass me a few of those skunkva chemdog91s" right? uh uh. It'd be more "eh cuz where da dog stay!". But after seeing the Dog/Dawg up close & personal, it is definatley not the Skunkva Chemdog91 at all. At least from the couple of grows of Dog/Dawg I've done so far...

and more coming as I am trying to focus on the Dog/Dawg being my main production plant - folks just can't say "no" to bags of Dog/Dawg.

And is it DOG, or DAWG???

Good luck Grey. Most Uncles can't remember that far back or dead by now 80's were hard on the BI. I stopped growing in 86 and there was lots of African and many had Swazi and all were crossed with Afghans. Back then it was buds and HB's = Hash buds only two types of buds. lots of 90 day wonders we called them. I had one strain with pink hairs we called it Volcano Madness we were in our 20's and wild. Glad my son isn't too much like me. Aloha DB looks like a root nub on a Dawg

Really? I love strawberry shakes.....I used to get naked at parties and shake like I was cold and ask everybody if they knew what I was? Vanilla shake....lol
Breed them bitches!

LOL Classic Brah!!!

I really want to cross the Ghash with the BL/DL, having small kine germ issues with the Chocolate rain, got only 2 of the 10 peeking out of the soil atm. If the rest of them don't germ, I'm going to start some of the BL/DL and look for a mother plant, then i'll do a another run with the BL/DL and keep all the males and do a open pollination with the BL/DL, Ortega, and the Ghash, an then repeat the process with the Spice later this fall. I also plan to S1 the Ghash :-)

Howzit grey, I grew out "DOG" a couple years back. Good smoke, pretty strong, and fast finishing so the bud rot dont have time to do its thing. Cut was from PNW...Not sure of its lineage, but breeders boutique sells S1's of DOG, maybe you could ask them guys?!. I would've kept it, but now I just smoke a j and siphon gasoline if I want that DOG taste.lol Gotta be some Chem sibling lineage in there that strain is fuely.

breeder boutique? ok ill check em out for poops and giggles...
but the guy i need to talk to is the guy who the HP13 came from - his partner.

from the pnw are matches what i have been digging up so far... any other info you can recall?
I've taken it at 63 and 60, but i feel like she could probably go longer to really swell up and look super tasty.

its a crazy taste. its like rainbow skittles or fruity pebbles gasoline. but its got a lot more too... its very complex and multi dimensional.

@Greyskull I believe you right bro...they say the chem came from a strain called the Dog.

True Origins of Chem Dog and Sour Diesel.

Who are the major players?

P-Bud: I’m a very small part of the puzzle, but I was there, so I know the story. I was nervous about coming in here, but I just want to set the record straight. I’m a big history guy, and I like correct history on stuff like this.

I moved to Crested Butte in ’87. By 1989, ’90, we were growing a lot of m39, Skunk #1, we had a strain of Hash Plant that was absolutely incredible that I would put right up along with the ones of the Dog Bud. It was smuggled by a girl we knew from Leadville, from somewhere in Asia. She sewed it in her sleeve. We were growing that and smoking P-Bud, an outdoor strain from Colorado that was absolutely incredible.

In ’89, ’90 this pot came in called Dog Bud. We were getting a lot of it. We were told it was coming from the California-Oregon border. We were getting pounds of it. It was some of the most incredible indoor that we had ever seen. The smell? You walked into a grocery store with a tiny bit in your pocket and the clerk was like, “did someone hit a skunk?” So we were getting this Dog Bud and we couldn’t believe the looks of it, we’d never seen anything like it. From what I heard, it was called Dog Bud because after you smoked it, it made you roll over like a dog. And “d-o-g,” not “d-a-w-g.” This was back when it was organic, don’t panic, but we were thinking they must have pumped so much chemicals into this pot. We just started calling it “Chem Weed,” just as a joke.

So Chem Dog, he put those two together and that’s where it came from. But we were big Deadheads back then and we used to tour every summer, and back in ’91 we went on tour and brought a pound of the Dog Bud with us. And back then in the summer time pot would dry up, it was really hard to find a bag of pot, even at a Dead show. So we brought this out and before the show we were sitting on our car and said the words “kind bud,” and some guy came over. We showed it to him, and he was like “oh, my god, I’ll buy three from you.” Within fifteen minutes, I swear, we had a line at our car of people wanting to buy it. And we sold out in no time. Well, Chem Dog came by and he bought a bag, and then he came back and bought another ounce. We probably charged him a lot of money. We were young and greedy back then. But he bought it he was happy and no one complained. I hung out with him at the show, exchanged numbers, and when we got back to Crested Butte, everyone was pissed we took a pound of Dog Bud out of town on Dead tour, so that didn’t go over well with a lot of people. But we were the ones that were able to get it, so it was kind of our decision. And I’m glad we did it.

So we got back to town and sent him two ounces [in Massachusetts] I think, quarter pound, not really sure what we sent him it was a while ago. One ounce had no seeds in it, he said, and one had thirteen seeds in it. We had been looking for seeds in it ever since we had it. Never found a seed in a year of us getting it. And he got 13 in one bag. So that’s kind of where it all kind of started.

All the credit goes to Chem Dog and what he did with them. Over those years, of the 91 and the Chemdog D, which were my two favorites. Did a lot of crosses. Of the first four, one was a male, and he chucked it. He wouldn’t have now. Three of them were keepers: The Chemdog 91, The Chemdog's Sister and the Chem C, I think it was called. In 2000, he germinated four more, one was junk. The Chemdog D is probably my favorite for all around taste and potency. It’s pretty special. So, fast forward a couple years, Joe called me and he said, I think there’s a strain called New York City Diesel that I think is actually guys going up to Massachusetts and getting clones and they changed the name from Chemdog 91 to Diesel, and then New York City Diesel. So they are the same thing.

Adam: I was in Amsterdam in 93, and I met one of the two crews. And one told me it wasn’t about the taste or flavor, it was all the same diesel, the different names were about the crews. One crew was sour. You had your choice, you could buy diesel from the Sour Crew or the New York City crew, but you had to give them $500 an ounce.

Chem Dog: Thirteen seeds. Started two in ’91. One was a male. I was 17. Foolishly, I threw it away. The other came out identical to what I got from Joe and P in Deer Creek Indiana, summer Tour 1991. I did not get the beans there. I got one sack of the Dog Bud and thank god I did what I did. One became the original 91 cut. One became the Sister. I believe it was 2005, which was then Chem Dog D, which is still out there and very popular. Without the Chem Dog, there’d be no Sour. He will agree with that. From what I remember Joe telling me, he said some people called it Dog, some called it Chem. Either way people it’s d-o-g, not d-a-w-g. Brett from Apothecary Seeds, he bred the 91 cut and called that Chem Dawg. Could be wrong. ARJAN OF GREENHOUSE GOT THE 91 CUT and he spelled it the right way, so he gets props for that.

AJ: We met in 1993. Right around the time I first went to Amsterdam. The first time I met Chem Dog he sold me a pipe. And I said, let’s put something in it, and I said no, let me, and we had a pissing contest for a minute until we realized we both had the same thing. Even back in the day, I would give it to somebody and they would come back and tell me I screwed them and gave them something else. There’s two different ones. But there’s only one. It’s temperature sensitive. If you end up with 85 percent you did a great job. For some reason, everyone was always obsessed and wanted the May because springtime on the Northeast coast created the perfect temperature, so the May batches were always the highest.

Chem Dog: I always had good luck with fall and spring.

Adam: So the Massachusetts super skunk was crossed into it.

AJ: That was probably accidental. Everyone has a different side of the story, but from what I understand the “sour” is just a seed that ended up in somebody’s lunch box. That happened in Staten Island is where that was born. The radioactivity in Staten Island might have something to do with it. Someone got a lucky lottery ticket and cashed it in.

Thanks TJ, nice to have the original boys come out to talk story. Hope all good with you in the dirty south.

So Grey, did you make your skunkdog cross? Did you just get the Dog? Pics? Since that original dogbud was from the heads in PNW, not too far to think that some hippy brought it over to the BI long before the Colorado Grateful Dead show. Umm, she probably wants to come back over here too. :-).

But we don't know anything other than the Dog was the mother to the 13 Chem beans, did she self or did a little pollen from some other line hit the Dog up? Probably some other line if your Dog doesn't seem real closely related to your D, and the variability among the 91, D, 4....but there was only 1 male, so.......

Did you send the Bl/Dls over yet? Nice plans with the Ghash(Grey, why you need to speak with ndnguy anyways?), but i dont think we should open pollinate the Bl/Dls with each other, send me as many seeds as you can and I will chase the blue side of it, that is where the money is. The only two crosses Bodhi made with DJ's mom were The lotus Bl
and the appyBlueberry Hill, both only given out as limited freebees.

no i didn't make the skunkdawg plant.
i wish hahaha
the skunkdawg comes from some boyz in Haiku... they made it with the intent of getting more out of the dog
2001/2002 was when they made the seeds and did the selection. i think they only did like 20 plants/seeds. man i would kill for even 5 of those beans hahahaha

and yeah, we don't know anything about the "dog" mother plant that produced the fabled 13 seeds.
the dog we have in hawaii... it might be an entirely different dog, altogether.
or maybe its THE DOG. hahaha.
stirring the pot LOL

but some things have some up that are interesting...

a family in oregon near ca has been growing & hoarding a "dog" for years and years and years... late 80s. and they happen to have some family on big island too.... very vague and very speculative, sure. but fuck, that fucking flight 370 is somewhere right???
we are hoping that family happens to have records/recollections of what they were doing with their garden way back when...

i know dog it looks NOTHING like the Chemdog D... smokes nothing like it too... nothing like the chems sister i had either. nor was it like the Chemdog #4...
but the chem 3 now... all I've heard about the chem 3 is the little nspecta has posted up about. and about it being kush like. and the chem 3 is one of the original 13 seeds from chemdog's bag... and those chem3 buds look... i don't have the experience to say similar. but i want to! hahahaha

you know how folks swear og is an s1 of the skunkvachem91 ? well... i have seen dog grow next to valley ogkush & her sister legend... and maybe they are just plants that share a similar growth pattern and structure. or fucking maybe they are related! hahahaha
its insanity!!!! i have been dabbing plenty but i stare at my plants all day. you know?

but thats why i want to send some buds to oregon/get some of theirs and compare some notes...
if those folks in oregon have the same cut as the one we have here, thats plenty enough feel good story for me in and of itself. if pbud or joeb or even massG/chemdog could (i mean they'd need to id buds from bags they got in 1991! thats not really realistic... but maybe) verify too that would be cool, cause it'd be a step in the right direction.

do i have the dog? finally. hahaha. i spent 3 years searching for it. paid for it, handsomely too(maybe it was a tip. maybe it was keeping ones word... but whatever a large sum of cash was exchanged). had it a few months now. STOKED!!!!

who ndnguy?

The BL's and the Ghash are the most potent plants I've grown as of late, chase that BB brother and I'll do the same :-)

Thanks for posting Grey, didn't Chemdog say 91 was the one that was just like the bud it came from and if your Dog doesn't resemble the 91 much....but the Dog being grown in Hawaii so long might have adapted to being the baddest dog around. Did the Haiku boyz pass that cut around much? I know there are skunkdogs in Puna. Pics of your girl please...lol.

yep can, I got some to go in the cloner, they look like hell right now, but at least I kept it. I goin try save the sour D next. she throws same pink hairs like grey posted, but for sure isn't the best weed I have ever tasted :) so probably not related to the skunkdawg. I couldn't get very many MKfrsts to go past first leaves. they just fell over an died. I have a couple still alive so maybe get chance have one. on the other hand, I started some Flow32Frosts at same time that look promising, and there should be a few to choose from. I was sent the original west coast DOG in mid 2000s, same one that the norcal boys do outdo for long season. I thought it was a watered down bubba, but it was super quick and would get frosty. not too much flavor, so I doubt that is the one you guys are talking about. I been smoking here since late 90s and only smokes I can remember that was super dank was called, The Wanky, The Johnnys or Johnny D, and this other strain I never got the name but was super super dank from a cat growing in Volcano. nothing I have tasted since has been quite to that level. maybe the Triangle Kush but not too much more, oh and maybe that albert walker :D haha

aloha bullys, still trudging along in dis muthafucka haha

yeah west coast dog totally another animal. nice animal. different animal.
the dog we got here is nothing bubba like at all.
to me it is more "traditional" ogkush like - lanky viney. But she gets fat leaves that the Valley and Legend and Tahoe and Fire & Hells Angles hand't done. for me anyways - because there is always someone somewhere doing something hahaha

Thanks for posting Grey, didn't Chemdog say 91 was the one that was just like the bud it came from and if your Dog doesn't resemble the 91 much....but the Dog being grown in Hawaii so long might have adapted to being the baddest dog around. the skunkdawg doesnt resemble what I have seen of the real 91 pics.
id love to see veg pics of the 91... real pure 91....
but even then... the 91 is from seed of "the dog"... and i think there was two plants involved in the seeds being made as the chem family (the sister, the D, the 4... not sure on the 91 sorry) seem to be already fairly stable as breeding tools...

i think the 3 guys that were in the "initial exchange" would still be able to id "the dog" by smell.... as scent is the one sense that can take you back in time. I'm thinking the "big 3" would need a sample of whats still being pumped out in peeps in Oregon to get the best chance of a reliable positive/negative.

but what are the fucking chances that dudes in oregon have the "original" dog? teeny tiny minuscule need an atomic microscope to see how small that shit is. but lets look anyways hahaha
i think theres more a chance that what they have in oregon is what we have in hawaii - which i think would be really kind of cool in its own right.

that said i got confirmation that dog was on maui as early as 93 as a friend from Lahaina recalls having it (buds) and seeing it his freshman year at Lahainaluna...

i don't know much about the haiku boyz...

ill try to get some pics of the dog i have about a week away form starting to bloom...
