I'm so sorry to come back and read this. I know how devastated you're feeling right now, and am sending you my biggest, softest hugs. It's gonna be really hard for a while.

Just a month ago we had to bury another one of ours, my lovely girl Boudi. Now that I am so fortunate to be able to inter my pets here at home we have a small, well, pet cemetery. I got a statue of St. Francis of Assisi to watch over them. Even if it's all just made up, it gives me comfort to think that when we pass, we'll find our animal friends waiting for us on the other side.

Thank you everyone, all of your well wises are so sweet and your stories of your best friends are so wonderful. I know we will have another one someday, but not right now. We have had 3 labs now and I love this breed to death. They are so good with my grandchildren and anyone else. Gunner was very lovable and a big ham. Always wanted me to rub my feet up and down his back. I had to quit before he didn't want it anymore, lol legs wore out, lol . He would even knock my feet off the stool on to the floor for this rub down, lol. He is with all the others who have passed and is having the time of his life, waiting for us someday.

Again thank you so much everyone

@Seamaiden beautiful.

Sorry man, it tears your heart out losing your best budz. I'm kinda of a loner guy and always have a German Shepherd beside me...my best friend. I believe pets are our Guardian Angels. They have mastered unconditional love, and if we are aware they appear when needed most. But they also have to leave us (in the physical realm) but remain forever in the spiritual planes. It's never easy...and for me acquiring another dog makes the misery and sadness a bit softer. I have more respect and love for animals than I do for most of the human species. I wish it were different but "it is what it is." Many Blessings your way, mourn and grieve then when you are ready, move on. No dog or person who leaves us wants to see us unhappy. "Yeah, I know, it's easy to say but hard to do. I know. Good luck, man. RIP to Gunner.

There is an ancient Native American story called Rainbow Bridge. It's pretty cool.

Tears streaming, that was simply beautiful, thank you so much.

Hi Ya Flyin, it is getting easier, but still look for him to go out or just scratch his ear or to move a chair in the kitchen for him. He loved to chase the sun on the floor in winter, stretched right out in it, lol,,huge window so lots of sun for him.. But I know he is happy and waiting for me with all our other friends. Thanks for stopping in and checking on me, means allot. Plus you always put a smile on my face when i read your post. So so positive my friend, keep it up.

Respect

They definitely leave paw prints on our hearts.

Still have 3 doggies here. Was up to 5 @ one point. We ended up with my oldest boy's crippled old cattle dog when he passed. She last 10 months after he left us in may 2011...then last May we lost our 14 year old Golden "Kaya". Both losses hurt like Hell but after losing a child all deaths (other than other children) have take on a different depth and scope for us.

I volunteered to transport dogs for a Rescue from shelters/surrender situations for about 4 years...til my son passed...and until I ended up with a house full of dogs...LOL.

I hope you can heal and find it in your heart to give another dog a great life/care like you did Gunner. There are far too many dogs out there without homes...

take care/good luck
