Side note, ideally you would want to strip opposing branches to keep symmetry to your plants nute/light uptake even on the same plant, keep growing,Peace.

Kinda looks like main lining or making a nuggbucket I've seen them produce 8 to 16 huge colas if done right but again what works for some farmers might not work for all.

I usually take info from several well-known farmers and apply them in my own way. I feel trial and error is the best teacher

Heres some main lining

This looks very interesting, how does one achieve the 'mainline' branching opposed to the natural branching that happens when you top?

You have to train them in veg by tying them down after each "top"

Once you get your 3rd node top it tie down the two shoots so their at a 90degree angle so then they will grow straight up to the light and trim All growth under them leave the two leaves on the node. Repeat at 3 nodes and tie them down as well to double your colas, and trim all growth under them. Nug Buckets

Each new shoot will be a cola just trim all growth under them though, sounds harsh but it works all your nutes go straight to your buds and you don't get those lower scraggly buds just nice plump colas.

Nice I was looking for that thread but couldn't find it again, I stumbled upon it one night.

Thats somme good in-depth knowledge there!

Ill be trying that here in a few months once the weather warms up, for a outside grow.

Thanks Seamaiden for putting that link up,I was trying to explain to one of my buds who Scrog farms and I finally told him I just work without a net is all I*m doing and yes it is all in early veg the White Widow seems to be a leggy strain?Never grown it before,so I needed to clean them up so they looked a little naked but they are responding well, I may put some pics up happy growing,Peace.

My post on 1/9 shows these same plants and these pics are this morning 10 days older, just shy of 5 weeks in flower,Peace.

Thanx for the like HiGro,was thinking I put some people off with my pics, and I think I did but there is more than one way to grow that*s why forums work, all trying to get to the finish, lol,Peace.

I have nothing but good wishes for you and your garden, and I appreciate your updating us on your grow.
That being said, your plant simply does not look like what I have come to know as "optimal".
It's been two weeks since defoliation and I can see lots of soil in your top shot, and that space that does have light catching veg, is only one leaf thick.
And, that veg does not look particularly healthy. (may not be related to pruning, but)

Please continue to keep us updated on this grow. (I'm not the only one keeping a close eye on this thread)
Consider continuing into your next cycle where some experimentation might be employed.

Pruning and training may well be the most intangible aspect of managing a garden.
It's also very emotional, as any cutting is counter intuitive, but most agree that some pruning is required.
So it's a balancing act.
Thanks again for updating.

No problem, Om. Everyones garden and set up is different, so what works for one may not work for all.

I think its cool to experiment myself with my own garden to see what works and what doesn't, if it works then good on ya if it don't then you know not to do that ya know.

And posting it on a forum such as this is very helpful for other gardeners to get an (Idea) of what to do or just to try something new. So good on ya thanks for sharing and updating.

Thanx Dunge,I appreciate everyones comments, and I understand that it is not how most folks do things and I don*t mind shareing my pics as I get along,I know that my pics aren*t the greatest,I got a ways to go with these girls until they are done it*s a long finish for White Widow but they are musky and heavy on the stem.I never have grown w/w,any way thanks to all the farmers on this informative forum, happy growing,Peace

I try to do all my thinning in veg but sometimes I have to go back through stuff in flower.if its done in the first few weeks its ok but the sooner the better ime or yields can suffer and really late pruning can cause herms on marginal genetics. I just try to take bottom branches that would end up as larf because I just dont need extra larf.i also try to take out crossing branches so most the stems are growing vertically and able to stack nice and hold more weight.those crossing branches create more shaded areas and are the first to flop over when buds start to form.but for my setup the lower 1 foot gets pruned off and I only pull fans that are not healthy looking. I tried thinning fans and realized it only lowers my yields so I stopped a long time ago.but I also stake my plants right away in flower to open up the canopy and it makes spotting those crossing branches pretty easy. Try I few ways, like do some lightly and a few heavy, maybe do one where you strip some fan leaves and see which ones grow best in your setup.those pics above are really extreme and I would not recommend doing that .gl

Pow! That's all ya need to know right there! Exactly how I work my girls...

Fishwater,if you were to ask me,I would just take the top only off, then start training/LST those lovely laterals you got, wire the tops of them out and down to keep your canopy/tops the same height,of course there will be an assortment of responses to how and what to do but thats the beauty of growing your own, pretty little girl, happy growing,Peace.

I posted some pics on this thread a while back don*t know if you saw them, too radical for most, similar to screen I don*t use a net.Peace

Dude, I'm doing my first mainline right now also. If you were to ask me you have 5 nodes. I waited till 6 then topped at the 3rd node. I just took the top and cloned it.
Here is what it looked like then.
IMG 0881

I kept some leaves on till the 2 shoots were growing strong then cleaned them up.
That was 9 weeks ago. This is her as of saturday
20150215 194730

Just cleaned her up tonight. I may top her 1 more time for 32 tops. Hope you have time on your hands. It is a lot of fun and great learning experience!
Good luck!
