Hey hey hey..... So I picked up a few new lights 2 1000w dimmable DE Gavita fixtures as well as 3 1000w dimmable DE PL light systems fixtures (picture below).... Now I know these things run extremely hot and I only have 8 1/2 ft of head room...luckily I prefer to scrog my plants so I figured I could pull it off, problem being I cant run a mini split into the room...I figured my best option was a big boy window unit as well as a portable one??? any thoughts?? I was hoping to run all 5 lights in the room but I'm not sure if I can handle the heat or not.... Lemme know what you guys think always open to suggestions and constructive criticism....
:)

Bitchin lights, always wanted to try those PLs.I ran 1k gavitas in an 8' room and didnt like it,i now have the 6/750s.Iwould want 10'+ and preferably 12' ceilings for 1k de's.

You can dim them but it changes the spectrum, better to right size the light to your room. Not trying to rain on your parade, just relaying my results,I love the 1ks but i think you need taller ceilings for them to run the way they are designed.I heard the PLs have different reflectors you can change out that might help but my experience is with gavita only,Also @Capulator removes his hood completely in his rooms sometimes, that may be something to think about if you experience bleaching.Good luck!

Here are some of the different reflectors available for PL,these could help some to spread light around/decrease intensity in a low ceiling environment. The thing about GOOD DE lighting that alot of people dont realize is that a 600 DE is very close to a normal 1k SE HPS,all DE lights are designed to be run high in a room/greenhouse which is different than what were used to,took me awhile to learn this, lol.

i see i see......unfortunately i got way to good of a deal on all these to go with 6/750 gavitas....(250 a pop for the gavitas, 300 a pop for the PLs) I understand that you need a good 3 ft between light and plant??? Did you ever try scrogging them??? The guy a bought the Gavis from was scrogging with 8 ft ceilings and said he was pulling weight with them..... How many Gavitas were you running in how big of a room??? Thanks for all your input :)

12x12x8 rooms w/6 1ks,yes i tried scrogging.Look im not knocking what you want to do just relaying mine and ALOT of other peoples experience. You can do anything you want but it doesnt make it ideal.I would not have changed if i didnt feel it was neccessary,it cost me money and time but the 1ks didnt work out for me in an 8' room.6/750s were designed solely for this reason, dimming changes spectrum which changes everything.

The Gavita Pro 750W DE EL lamp for our Pro 6/750 DE FLEX fixture. It is a unique lamp in its class, the first 750W electronic HPS lamp to hit the 1500 micromol level. Many climate rooms do not have the height you need for 1000W lamps, or the crop is too high. A 750W lamp works much more efficient in the 600-825W range than a dimmed 1000W lamp.

Think about it,8' tall room, gavita hangs down approx. 8'' from ceiling and you need 36-40''between plant and light,so now you have 48'' total grow space and thats with your plants ON the floor, not raised up at all and pots or beds are approx 10'' tall depending,so now you have 38'' for your total plant size, canopy and all.You will end up having to dim your lights which changes the spectrum and all kinds of funky shit will happen,at least in my case it did.Im sure maybe others have figured out ways to get around these limiting factors but i got tired of fucking with it after 3 or 4 rounds, this was when the lights first came out and not alot was known then.BTW those same 1ks i bought at first are in my sons place now KICKING ASS with no problems, the difference?14' ceilings.

no hard feelings im just trying to get a feel for these things....i gotta give it a shot ya know....its not ideal but its what i got to work with..... this is exactly what i was looking for when i created the thread.....what do you think about pushing all the lights to the sides of the rooms and instead of hanging them directly overhead hang them on a bit of an angle to blast light from all four corners????

Anything can work really,If i were you for the PLs id look into the reflectors that throw a really wide pattern like this super wide,
timthumb.php

and for the gavitas maybe taking the reflectors off like @Capulator does and running a U shaped tunnel of plants?Ive never tried it but it makes perfect sense, less intensity but still plenty of light and alot of sq footage that way.Your room is different than anyone elses and your ceilings are 6'' taller than mine so you have to experiment a little.Depending on your room dimensions maybe 2 PLs on the outside of each side with wide reflectors and the 2 gavitas in the center with reflectors removed?Anything to lower the direct intensity without dimming too much will work.PL has alot of reflector choices to help change things up for different scenarios,i wish gavita would do that.

@fishwhistle since youve been so kind with your advice I was wondering what your opinion is on setting my 4 PLs like this in the 4 corners of the room and then have a gavita sit on a chair that i would rotate around my grow......Im thinkin 4 4x4 scrogs set in the center of the room and then ill blast em from all four corners and the sides...... I already know its not the most efficient way to go about it but I am concerned with hanging these things directly over the scrogs with the amount of light/heat they give off.... Think lighting the room not just the plants lol:)
Ive currently got four plants with a traditional 1000w hps over the top and the PL on and angle blasting them and they seem to LOVE it.... If thats any consolation lol

I have never done it that way so im not sure, like i said anything can work.I will say this, ive not seen this done too often and if it worked good im sure we would see more of it.
I have been told your not supposed to run DEs Vertically due to bulb limitations,It screws up their heat dissipation pattern which then negatively impacts their efficiency, was the reason I heard, not sure if the angle you have yours at would do that.

were about to find out lol gimme 2 months.....thanks for the info......
Why dont you try those ultrawide hoods. I thought they were designed for less penetration and more even distribution. ? Thoughts?

Im actually currently working on this :) Im having a hard time finding a supplier that will sell only 3 of them lol.....i think they laugh when i tell em i only need 3  There doesn't seem like a lot of people who sell the PL line

You mean reflectors right????
