OMAHA, Neb. -- A Lincoln couple accused of stuffing a kitten inside a homemade marijuana bong made a court appearance Tuesday on animal cruelty charges.
Twenty-year-old Acea Schomaker and 22-year-old Marissa Vieux appeared in Lancaster County court. Vieux is scheduled for a June 8 trial date. A hearing was set for June 30 to determine whether Schomaker's case will go to trial.
Schomaker also faces other drug charges stemming from the March 1 incident.
Schomaker acknowledged to The Associated Press last month that he had smoked pot from the bong with the 6-month-old kitten named Shadow inside. Schomaker said he was trying to calm the cat because she was hyper.
