Got two plants, were doing pretty well, noticed some damaged leaves, and also noticed that the nodes seem to be at very different intervals. Why is that? Lighting I'm assuming but if my light is any closer it burns the leaves I think. Pictures below. And I'm not sure what the damage to the leaves is caused from right now, I was guessing light, possibly nute burn?

I don't see light damage/burn on the plants..
I believe you need to look for insects..

Peace

Could be insects chewing, or maybe just some minimal damage on a young leaf. How old are they? Young seedlings often show flaws in the first few leafsets. Also the node spacing can vary between phenotypes (or whatever term you prefer since we're mostly using pheno incorrectly anyway).

They look a little light green now, which is okay and probably better when they're young. Once they develop more roots they'll be ready to feed more and darken up. Do good IPM and if it's an insect it won't matter. Those broad leaves are pretty :)

I do notice gnats roaming the soul from time to time, but they never seem to bother the plant, CocoJoe. Any easy tips to rid the fuckers? And Herb Forester, she is about a month and and a week, around 50-55 days old. I've been pretty fond of her so far and I noticed the leafs looked lighter, I think it was from how close the lamp was, I just moved it up a couple inches. Sorry what is IPM?

IPM=Integrated Pest Management, search the forums and you will find tips on it.

The gnat flies don't bother the plants it's their young sucking away at the roots that does the damage. Some BTi will clear them or a thick layer of sand on your pots. Young plants get damaged the most by gnat larvae. It's can be a sign of over watering if you have gnats.

I put mine in large pots from young but a lot don't. So don't take my advice lol as I think that practice is frowned upon. As long as you know how to water there shouldn't be an issue. I once put some in a trial. Same plants different sized pot. The one in the big pot romped away compared to the others. So I think I will stick to my way for now. Someone else will chime in for you and give you advice :D

Well since she's been in the bigger pot she has shown some major growth, about four or more inches in two weeks. I am having trouble with the watering, I think my soul is to dense and isn't draining the right way, probably leading to my gnat problem.

What are you growing in? I always add rice hulls for drainage no matter what. I'm not a fan of perlite tbh. You don't need to water the whole bucket. I water a ring around mine for a while till I can feel the roots spread out when I dig my finger in.

Some good things for IPM are OG Biowar foliar, some form of neem (I just use meal), K silicate. Trick is it has to be done regularly on a schedule, not just after you see a problem. Gnats are hurting more than you think, when they're gone you'll notice extra vigor.

The light is a fluorescent then? You should be able to keep those close, so with the right feed and good humidity strong light is no problem. Those side branches will want light into the canopy. Watering, now thats the toughest part.

I'm just growing in organic earth, nothing really added to it. I just got a second light and stronger bulbs. Still have to install, been away all weekend. Does humidity affect the gnats, or are they correlating?

No not humidity. Iv had my first grow at 70% through out veg with out gnats. It's wet soil they love. It's a fine line in soil to let it dry out between watering and letting it get too dry. Soil can be hard to re wet if it gets over dry and then you run the risk of water channeling. I had a saviour in a bottle when I was brand new and I let my soil get too dry. Wet Betty I used to help re wet and now I use it every 2 weeks in my routine. My plants absolutely love it. Must be the yucca in it they like. Have you fed any cal or mag yet?

Humic and fulvic acid help with clumped up soil as well. If I'm having trouble re-wetting I will use a mister on the top layer until it is saturated then water down normally, it works ok.

I use the ancient earth humic and fulvic. Magical products. I bought the wet betty originally as a sticky spreader.

I'm letting my soil dry out for a few days, I added some little styrofoam pieces to the soil today, hopefully leaving some air pockets in there. I do think that my soul holds water for a long time, especially in the 5G she's in. I need to figure out a good schedule for watering, I think that's what's been slowing me down. I have been giving it a little less water every time and I do see a difference in growth. Just added a bigger CFL last night, seems to be helping and I upped the air flow hopefully this will help dry out the soil and get rid of the gnats. I didn't notice any more damage from the gnats on the leaves and they seem to be dissipating. My pots have a plethora of drainage holes now. And I really haven't added anything but water with a little organic concoction I use for feeding. It does alright it seems, at least it doesn't look like it's hurting them.

Oh another thing I topped them about six days ago. I like what I'm seeing since the top.

They look fantastic.
