I have just come back off a 2 week holiday and really impressed at how much my girls have blossomed since I've been away.
One of the girls smells so sweet and has become so sticky that it is now completely covered with dead fruit flys.
The plant is now basically ruined for the coating of flys which is really disappointing because everything floating through the air is sticking to it like shit on a blanket.
What do i do and how would i prevent this for next time? Is there another option other than covering it with a plastic film and making a small green house which is something i dont want to have to do...

I don't know why nobody else is saying it but, those are fungus gnats. Your plant is plastered with dead fungus gnats.
This is a Fungas Gnat and that is not what is all over my plant...i have fruit flys all over mine

Supposedly this stuff degrades with time and light so you should be able to use it up until the last few weeks. Never used it myself, wish I had some because I have been finding dead gnats on mine. It is like they landed to feast and overdosed and died and shriveled up. Guess thc overdose is possible after all...

Go for the source of the flies, and shut them out and or even better kill them all. Until then cover them up. Make sure ya do a real tight trim job or hash it!

I really think the damage is already done it going to hours of plucking these bloody things off my plant..i have some eco insect spray that I'll spray on them but i need to be careful what i use as oil based stuff is just going to burn the plant because the days are still very hot here.
I will try and get hold of some of that white fabric i think might be a good idea its very light and could just droop it over without building a frame.
I may need to support her weight some how as she is starting to lean over. I really wish i veged this out better because the buds are amazing already. Ive never smelt outdoor like this.. but she started to flower so i just let her go.

I really think they are just fruit flies mate. They are really bad around here at the moment and the sweet smell they have mistaken for sugar. Because the plant is so sticky they have been stuck to it and died because they cant get away. There are no long legs anywhere.

Your outdoors...Tell your plants, "Cannabis Loves Water" and wash away the bugs with a hose. That should get most of them. Good luck.

I would have to disagree that those are fruit flys, the wings on those things are FAR too big for fruit flys..

Boom and someone just says it.
u want sticky yellow traps and nematodes for your soil.every single fungus gnat u see in your grow room was once a wee clear/white larvea thst was chewing on your roots.if u hadnt had them your plants woulda produced alot more and better quality.
iv been hammered by fg over the years.had some really bad infestations but the way i find best control em is natural preadators aka nematodes which while u cant gaurantee theyl wipe em out completely they work better than most organic type control methods like gnat off which i thought was rubbish.iv heard gnatrix or watever its called is good but never tried it ad i stick with the nematodes as theyr very effective and fairly cheap.

Unless you have a fruit tree nearby dropping a sh!t ton dead fruit these flys are breeding in.......it looks like a fungus gnat infestation to me.
I bet your soil is crawling with larvae.

You could rustle the dirt around the bottom of the plant and watch for them to scatter. If you see them fly away then, theres yer sign

Too late now, but the next run you could use some BTi. Its a biological that kills mosquito larvae and gnats as well. I used it last year and it helped with my gnat problem. Cheap and easy, just put a drop or two in your water brfore watering every other week or so. Its Bacillus Thuringiensis Israelensis, make sure what you by has the Israelensis in it. Since its a biological it only harms the larvae and nothing else like fish, bees, microbes and it is organic.
