I visited them a few years ago did the tour lots of great information.

Can you imagine producing 1 MILLION pounds of food, 10,000 fish, and 500 yards of compost on just three acres of land? ‘Growing Power,’ an urban agriculture organization headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, does just that. Milwaukee is very cold and the growing season is very limited. However, ‘Growing Power’ grows food year-round with the help of its ultra-efficient greenhouse system. The farm grows a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and also farms tilapia and perch. Will Allen, a former professional basketball player, is the founder of Growing Power. He was awarded the MacArthur Foundation $500,000 “Genius Grant” for his work on urban farming and sustainable food production.

How He Managed to do the Same

Will Allen came up with the aquaponics system. In this system, fish and plants are grown together, with fish waste providing an organic food source for the growing plants and the plants provide a natural filter for the water the fish live in. Compost power is used to heat the greenhouse. This energy-efficient process not only provides heat to the greenhouses but also provides fertile soil for growing high-quality vegetables and fruits.

My thoughts might be, too much volume of space to heat with compost alone.
I've been using mostly electric heat and on the really cold nights propane and de-humidifier as well as electric.
I really wanted to ensure steady water uptake, so been maintaining night temps of roughly 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
But heating with compost is a good and often used technique in smaller spaces.
Outside night low temps have been averaging 34 f for the last week.

his place in is wisconsin it gets very cold as well. the greenhouse i was in was a large hoop house maybe 80-100ft.

would be nice if you could hold 2 inch gap and have twin layers of plastic like a weather proof window for amping suns energy.

Thank you for that video @SpiderK
Very inspiring and well worth my time to follow up and learn more on that front.

these guys are great. setting up aquaponics in the 3rd world tons of free info .... composting, small build outs if your looking into setting up something like the greenhouse w/ fish also.

For the past ten years, UFG founders have been working hard to change the odds within one disadvantaged and underdeveloped neighborhood in urban Kansas City, and abroad. From after school programs, and community gardens to building aquaponic fish farms at orphanages in India and Mexico to contributing to an open source network of best practices and DIY tutorials.

I love the fact that he was a pro ball player and the awarded a MacArthur award for something so completely unrelated to sports.
Gotta love diversity!

Hey thanks, @Freshone, good link.
I know of this as latent energy, I think.

This technique is super bad ass for sure and is definitely the direction I will be moving towards after this season.
Out of all the various challenges my location presents, digging is not one!
I can dig 10' and hit only a few stones that might be fist sized.
