However, the plant senses that the duration of light it is receiving has been quickly reduced, meaning that winter and the end of growing season is soon to be here, so it starts to flower.
If you think this fits, then I think putting her under 12/12 is exactly correct.
What would be less desirable would be putting her back under 16 or 24 hours of light. She will stop making bud and eventually start vegging again but with clear signs of stress. I wouldn't do that unless I really needed a much larger plant and had plenty of recovery and veg time ahead.
