i have an ro filter that I've inherited but i need some help figuring out what does what if anyone can shed some light that would be great.
thanks bud i will have a look.. it was my father in laws he used it for grow water.. was going to replace the filters any way but.. like you said may be cheaper to buy new i will investigate..It looks like a 4 stage Ro/Di unit. I'm gonna go out on a limb & assume all
The filters & prefilters will need to be replaced. Do you know what GPD the unit is rated at?
Maybe reach out to these guys, they are pretty good dudes & are quick to answer questions. Plus they got some the of the best prices for quality filter replacements. I may almost be cheaper to just buy a new single stage unit but he time you purchase all the replacement filters..
Good luck

Some ro units have a separate line for back flushing your ro membrane. It allows the membrane to function longer.what is confusing me the most is the two outputs from one end of the membrane bit on the top.. got two red pipes one with a tap on it.. all i can think is these are the waste pipes, but why two and why the tap, the blue appears to be my ro out and there is another red going into the back in the IN flow which I'm pretty sure is going to be my feed... its all very confusing!
awesome thanks bud!:DSome ro units have a separate line for back flushing your ro membrane. It allows the membrane to function longer.
This place is on point and is where I get all my supplies and replacement filters and membranes. Stay away from any units that have DI de ionizers. They are for lab quality water for Reef Tanks. Way over kill just get a decent RO

De nada :cool:awesome thanks bud!:D
thanks bud!I'll take a look at mine when I get home later and see if I can refresh my memory. I have a 4 stage filter as well
ok cool ! yeah I've got one going in the back too which will be the feed, so my two red red ones on top are my waste and pressure release, and my blue is my ro water.. sounds good to me.. I've found a full filter and membrane kit to replace them all for about £ 35 which i think is quite reasonable as long as i can figure out how to change them all properly.. as soon as i have some £££££ i shall get my self the kit and have a go.. be interesting to try a grow with ro water!I'll take a stab at it. I have a 4 stage RO unit and it goes, water in-> two filters in line to -> the RO membrane filter where there is a presure bypass valve and the "waste" water exits while the water that passes through goes through one more (carbon) filter and exits as finished RO water. So, it would be easier if I could see the backside but, which ever red line goes to the back of the first {reddish} filter is your water in hookup, then it passes through the middle filter, leaves that filter and goes to the RO filter but the other red line is your waste water, and the water that comes out the top of the RO unit, finally goes through that right filter and exits from the blue line. Thats my guess.
The little valve with the blue parts is the pressure regulator/bypass most likely.
Also, be careful how much you spend on new filters because my portable 4-stage unit, while smaller, only cost me around $65 on amazon and it works great.
