RHINObeast,

I am amazed that you can do that in DWC. First off, we have very clean water here (50ppm) and lets say I start off with clean buckets etc (as sterile as possible) and fresh nutes at 1/2 strength, you know a good clean start. Then I go with room temps of 75-78 then before long, especially with out frequent water changes, I get lots of indications of bacterial growth, a little slime forming, water doesn't smell fresh, roots start to turn a little less than white and it just goes downhill from there.

The less I change the water and manage the temps the lower my production and quality suffers. I see so many people using all kinds of reservoir treatments like all the preparations that are nothing more than "pool shock" and then there are the treatments like Hydroguard which I think has some beneficials in it but everyone has their favorite way to jack up the reservoir that seems to work for them. I never had success with a single reservoir treatment except water changes, lowering temps and some H202. That is until I started chilling the water. Now my UC system is just rockin with root ball sizes and other indicators I have never seen before.

Anyway, the reason I was asking all the questions is I see DWC issues with water management (mostly temperature related) on these forums all the time. I am no master grower but I know root rot when I see it and I see a lot of it here and for the sake of the folks who haven't gone to a chiller I am interested in how it works:). Went 2 years without a chiller but it was kind of a bitch.

Also, I have to manage my veg tent that will get too warm for water temps here pretty quick as Spring comes on. My veg tent is in the garage so 7-8 months of the year it is easy to manage (just have an aquarium heater in the reservoir set to 62F for the real cold days) but I need it to run during the warmer days as well. Going to get a small 1/10 hp chiller for it but can't afford it just yet so like a lot of folks I have to manage somehow with what I have......

BTW, some fine looking roots on your plants!

Thanks,

Dee
I think it’s possible that because my tents are on hardwood floors it may help to keep it cool. Plus I’m from the east and it’s cold as shit here. In the summer I have a 8000 btu ac that runs into my room and it keeps it nice and cool in here. I don’t make temps the most important thing, I just make sure the roots are full submerged and swimming all the way up the net pot. My root temps in summer are around 75 degrees but I think it’s just the silica and the shading from the tops of the plants that keeps it even that cool, definitely higher than I want but if I run into an issue I’ll face it and correct it

Thanks for the information.

Top left to bottom right, Jack Frost, Chocolate Mint, em dog and strawberry banana, one week from flip

Lights out, 1 week in bloom update for this side of the 8x4. I need to get up my trellis tomorrow, these girls are standing approximately 20 to 24 inches in height after a week, and we still have 2 weeks of stretch maybe. I’m thinking they’ll be about 3 feet when it’s all said and done. My strawberry banana in the front left needs some cleaning up from the top sites, there are some fan leaves blocking a lot of good possible nodes, she’s not gonna reach like the rest of them, she stays stout. Week three they’ll get a nice defoliation, but Im gonna let them ride it out till then. I just bent them over before lights out, so we’ll see if that can open things up.

Stripped the legs and thinned out the tops a bit, trying to gain max light penetration. Upped ppms to 500-525 from the 350 they were at, they were left in their veg nutes as a transition form 450 and drank down to 250 in the week and a half time span from flip. Just gave them base nutes, and a good filling of grow nutes. I’m trying to boost the N a bit to last out till week 7. I’ve been noticing earlier yellowing on the tangie and I wanted to try this lil experiment out. I also gave them call mag. And also here is some tangie, about 7 weeks in, still packing it in. I’m taking her ten to eleven weeks

She’s not so shy this time, this is seedsman blueberry, last one of clone that I have but I got three more beans to pop for the future. She’s packing way more with this 315 and finally seeing the production I wanted, too bad she’s no longer going to be with us

Up and coming for all the Cali connection haters lol....Larry Og, I sure did have an experience. First bean I ever popped was advertised as fem straight from the breeders pack and ended up being a male, You know the ones that they put in the match case. Needless to say I wasn’t about to put them down, popped a new bean and got a nice girl, been running this for a year now. Sorry for the purple they’re great veg lights
