So seems always there's a lot of question on if a plant is a male or not. This is a male that I've just uncovered in my grow this season. I didn't detect anything till yesterday, and that was 8 days into bloom. (these were from seed)

That sucks..I'd hate to waist the time growing a male.. unless it was a outdoor grow where I just threw out a handful.

If you know a reliable way to sort out male seeds from female, please clue me in...I’m all ears.
Though in all truth this grow had a very rocky start and I’m ecstatic that I’ve got anything that will hopefully result in something to harvest...

Tying in with this question on collecting pollen from a male plant, (why waste the opportunity). Do I keep the whole plant going, do I prune it back to only one viable branch from which to collect the pollen when matured? Never have done this previously so very interested in the “how”...Please chime in.

I'm wrong person...I've made my own seeds and I only buy feminized..or I just keep cloning..if it's not female..I don't grow it..can't afford to..that's me tho.

you should kill it and move on. no offense but if you lack the skills or place to keep it seperate and or collect pollen safely, you are better off removing it from your garden. none of the pollen sacs have opened yet so your safe there. i remove them from the GR and bag em with a trash bag and then off to the curb.

I do have another tent where I can keep it, but it’s in the same room. What’s entailed in collecting the pollen safely? If you don’t mind elaborating a bit.

yep that's a dude
How long have you been growing?
Yes I knew it was male, I was trying to illuminate those who haven’t come across a male, as theres plenty of questions posted on this subject.
As far as growing, you made me think, I’ve been growing for about twelve years. The last few years seeds only as I got tired trying to chase down clones. They’re never what they say they are and I really hate dispensaries...
So while were at it, how about yourself, theres nothing in you profile, so how long you been growing?

In the same room I wouldn't try it, unless you want the rest of your crop to get pollinated. pollen is insidious and will get everywhere. At the least, you will need some type of very gentle HEAVILY FILTERED air exchange for him. Even the slightest movement when ripe will spread the pollen everywhere. I use a tent in another room to flower a male..there is still a pet problem, and the forced air system. Having a water spray bottle nearby is helpful to de-activate pollen that gets loose..in the air, on you, or any other surface. With that said..I love making new seeds!

I also TRY to time the male right..when there is little chance of stray pollen affecting another RECEPTIVE female. My understanding is that a female will be at the peak of ovulation between days 24-32 (Scott Reach of Rare Dankness says so..LOL)

Appreciate the help and your comments, I’ll toss it today and try the colloidal silver route when I read up enough on that. Funny though this is only the second male I’ve ever had from seed though...

Pleasure..These are also items that I consider for keeping a male.
Structure, stem rub stink, resistance to mold, etc.

So far, I have only been able to keep collected pollen for maybe 3 months in the deep freeze before it goes bad. It must be my collection/drying procedure. My own preference is to flower a few males at once, collect the pollen, and clean out that tent. It is amazing how fast those dudes are ready to rock!

Got that, it sounds like an off season project for me, but like I said even with seeds that aren’t feminized, coming up with seeds has to be via the colloidal silver route? I’m guessing.

CS is safer, but from what I hear..STS is a better choice. (Sodium Thiosulfate). CS was a royal PIA since you spray so often. STS can be very dangerous..especially for pets, so I stay clear. I only feminized one time and it worked, but I do better with regs and it's easier. I usually sex a plant by taking a cutting and putting it in a cup of water in the flower tent. Of course I remove it when sex shows.

Like I said, appreciate the info, will need to do my homework before doing this. I’ve just read a few posts about using STS, and how to arrive at it. Thanks again.

Post script today, glad I moved this male to another tent yesterday, it’s now in the green waste can. Amazing what changes it had over night. Thanks again for the comments and help. Don’t think any pods opened but sprayed down the room and space in front of the tent with water. I’ll give it another going over with a bleach mixture later.

I like to grow out a male and do some pollen-chucking on a couple of the ladies lower buds and I use a male isolation chamber in a small tent in the same room. Supposedly, you can put them right in the same tent as the females and not pollinate but I haven't tried that nor plan to as space is limited as it is. The chamber is just a large clear/opaque tote with some computer-type fans with filter material, and a watering tube. It actually works great.
I also put my seedlings under 12/12 lighting for the first 14 days above-ground before going to 18/6 which makes the plants show sex earlier (30ish days) and then the male you choose can go right into the small tent under 12/12 and then into the chamber for the next feew weeks before he is ready. This gives you the right timing to be able to knock-up the ladies by week 3 of flower(if you veg for 60 days) which still gives enough time for the seeds to fully develop. Hope that makes sense. A couple buds can produce many seeds. Also, by putting the male into flower asap, you can keep his size down.

I just "harvested" a male a couple days ago.

Would you care to say where that chamber came from? It looks sweet!

Walmart. Its just a tote with 4inch holes and furnace filter material sandwiched with computer-type fans. You can make one in about an hour.
