So I'm in the beginning/midway mark of Vegetation Stage of my FIRST seed to harvest indoor crops of GSC. This is a new experience for me cuz I dont have all the essential items needed to produce off the charts, amazing buds and plants like a few of my shop owning big homies, with top grade soils, nutrients, and accessories, have..
So while staying in my lane with my budget - I have a bunch of questions I wanna ask and discussions I wanna talk about for being a First Timer.. and basically prove that I can roll with the big homies too, without breaking the bank.. 😏
So let's start with:
1. I'm having a little trouble with what Substitutes to possibly use for Nutrients and how to make Carbon Dioxide for a "PoorMan's CO² Generator" with household items and a limited budget..
•is it possible to jus mix some pH Down and baking soda into my generator for it to create and release CO² in my tent? Since pH Down is a form of phosphoric acid and baking soda is a base - which in turn makes CO², right??... if so, what should be the mixing ratio be? And how long should I wait before I replace it?

2. Im beginning to start having tiny problems with "Nute Burn" and dried, crispy leaves.. I follow instructions as much as possible for feeding and pH watering, but no matter how much I do a flush - it jus doesnt seem to want to completely go away 🤷‍♂️ .. Any ideas on why??
-Now with watering and nutrients,I'm using the "Dirty Dozen Starter Kit" from FoxFarm, unsulphured molasses and every now and then I'll do a couple pinches of epsom salt in my 5.8 - 6.3 pH water to feed the Little Ones (the plants, not kids) I've ran out of some "Big Bloom" pretty fast - I wont be able to order some in time for the next feeding (which is actually right now), so is there a substitute I can use in place of "Big Bloom" for now or is it not too much of a big deal and can jus feed them with jus "Tiger Bloom & Grow Big"??...

*Side Note:
If anyone is familiar with the FoxFarm "Dirty Dozen Starter Kit" box, can you let me know which ones I should keep and use for my weed, and which ones are the 'ehhh, you dont really need this' ones..? Plz and thank you

Really cheap method... If you really want CO2 you can make a sugar water/ yeast mixture in a 5 gal water jug, run a hose off the top to over the plants. Then hang a bucket with a little bit of water in it to put in the hose end in. Submerge the hose end into the water. As CO2 is forming it is forced up the hose, bubbles will form and fill the bucket and gently cascade down over the plants. You’ll know to replace when bubbles stop. Or during flu, just hang out and talk to them. 😁

I quietly yell at my plants like how Adam Sandler does in Happy Gilmore to his ball that doesn't go in the hole... 😐 ... jk jk lol
- but that water, yeast, and sugar method sounds fuccin amazing! Is there a certain ratio I use for that method or can I jus guesstimate? And for the water, do I need it to be at a pH level of 5.5-6.5 or can I jus use it straight from ther sink? Dam that method is smart and hella cheap! I feel dumb for not thinking about that.. - wait what about baking soda and vinegar?? That'd work too, right??

Sounds like co2 is the last thing you should worry about. Light? What kind a light? I’m guessing it’s a issue
And following the directions on those nutes will prolly fry your plants? Cut back on the feeding and post some whole plant pics If was a want help farmers will want ph, ppm, light schedule, feed schedule and natural light pics.

no real ratio needed and tap water is fine. I think this lasts longer and is less work than the vinegar drip method. when it’s fully producing CO2 be careful how long you stay in the grow space. 🥴. We did this years ago in an unventilated attic room and you get light headed from CO2.
Agree with excess CO2 being only important depending on the setup. There are so many other more important details to dial in.

C02 is absolutely the least of your concerns. Environmental conditionals are far more important than c02 supplementation. What I'm trying to get to, if your environment isn't top notch or even close to idea, a c02 generator would be as efficient as farting in your grow room. VPN, if that term is rings a bell. Try and achieve ideal enviro, don't waste time with all these homemade c02. If your tent is open willy nilly as well, no point. The idea of adding c02 is to increase transpiration and help with photosynthesis while pushing higher temps and light intensity. keep it simple

whoa slow down there. You want a grow that doesn't break the bank and you're worried about a CO2 generator. CO2 production and use is not needed for home grow it's a waste of time and money. You need a properly controlled environment before you even think about CO2. There's enough CO2 in your home already.

You don't need top grade soil. I use the cheap stuff and I get 20 - 25 plants grown to full size for $30 Cdn( $20 USA) ProMix would cost you about the same in your area. The General Hydroponics nutrients I use cost me around $50 Cdn for the same 20 - 25 plants. My light is a 1000W hps. You don't need that for 1st time growing and there are some new led's you could look into for lower cost to run and set up. Although my 1000w light with ballast is only around $250 Cdn + $80 for reflector & socket. Cheap t5 fluorescent lights are great for veg $35 Cdn even cfl's work.

I use well water and I don't ph it before using it. They get it straight or with nute's depending on the cycle. The accessories I have are a $15 Cdn ph tester a $15 ppm meter & a $15 flux meter.

Dehumidifier cost me some money but I need it to keep my rooms where I want them $250 Cdn
My grows
4 Seeds...................................$45.........100's plants after cloning & trading
Dirt...........................................$30.........25 plants
Nutes.......................................$50.........25 plants
Light, ballast & reflector...........$330.......100's of plants
Veg light....................................$35.........100's of plants
Osc. Fans.I bought mine used 4 = $15......" " " " "" ""
exh. fans. I use bathroom fans 4 = $20

I don't add anything to the soil other than the Nute's

It’s funny you say baking soda and vinegar, check out this:
Image

I add about 3 cups vinegar and drop in baking soda wrapped in toilet paper, gets my tent to 3000ppm easy but levels deplete to ambient within 1.5 hrs. Don’t do this, it’s pretty much waste of time and money unless your plants are perfectly fed with the very best lights and conditions, I’ve ordered yeast as it’s more sustainable then vinegar method. But still, all this is cause I’m bored and why not lol
FYI the water in bottle 2 filters vinegar smell

I haven't used the "dirty dozen" in many, many years but the base Trio will always be my first choice. It's VERY easy to overdo it. Remember one thing: it's easy to add more but very difficult to remove a lot.

Start at 1/2 strength and let your babies tell you what they need.

Cheers

As CO2 is forming it is forced up the hose, bubbles will form and fill the bucket and gently cascade down over the plants. You’ll know to replace when bubbles stop. Or during flu, just hang out and talk to them. 😁

Plus then you can distill the created alcohol off and use it to disinfect things (but not drink because it likely contains methanol).

Food for thought, pun fully intended, there are a number of natural processes that create CO2 that are also potentially useful in case of a food supply disruption (like what's happening now).

If you have been one of the people baking bread during the outbreak, or are a yeast-head like @dire wolf , store the starter (covered with cheesecloth) with your plants. If you're baking every other day, you can create a system where the starter gets fed and split every 48 hours and then modify your bread recipe to use that amount of starter and start proofing after the split. There'll be a constant supply of CO2 this way.

For peeps like @SkunkyDunk that make their own sauerkraut, that'll also give off CO2. As will any other anaerobic lacto fermentation, which is generally as easy as packing down some vegetables, herbs, and 1.5% non-iodized salt by weight into a sterilized container. Kimchi is essentially that concept with garlic and chili.

For home brewers like @Dirtbag, as I'm sure he knows, it's as easy as venting the carboys to where the plants are.

And then, of course, you can just buy tanks and let them run to reach your desired ppm. But that's almost like cheating. 😄

Listen to @PipeCarver when he says to slow down. The first thing you need to remember is that these plants grow in nature. Sure the boys here try and max out results by adding specific things but that does not by any means that you cannot keep your first few rounds simple and have success. I promise your plants are not counting how much money you are spending right now. Get the basics down. There are an incredible set of videos that have just been published this year from the guy who runs the cannabis lab @ Utah State. If you let him, he will make your life incredibly easy. You will notice he covers 9 "cardinal paramaters of cannabis growth" in his introduction video. light, temp, RH, Wind, Rootzone Temperature, Nutrients, Water, oxygen... He goes through everything step by step. Your focus should really be in understanding how the plant uses all of these things in combination to achieve photosynthesis. I think sometimes a mistake we make is assuming that if we pump plants with nutes, they grow better, faster or bigger. While sometimes this can be the case, often for newer people like us, it has the opposite effect, because we shock the plants to death... He will emphasise a few things in this video, one being air movement. I can say for sure, once I got my air movement situation figured out, everything else fell into place. (watering schedules, PM issues, temperature)... You can move air with cheap fans that you only have to buy once. I think you get the point I am trying to make here... Follow the Docs path and you will be just fine.

Whooaaa...! - this is alot to take in all at once lol soooo what I'm getting from a majority of you guys is - 'fucc the CO² generator and jus go steady with your light set up and fans'... ok - *brb while I boot this "CO² generator buccet" out the bacc door...*
Ok so next is pictures of what I got going on for my set up.. it's a 36" x 36" x 70" tent. I have two 1000W LEDs hanging at the very top, and a 600W grow light with adjustable folding panels up there as well, all of them are in a timer for 16hr day/8hr dark. An exhaust fan with a inline duct booster fan that's attacted to the outside of the tent.. Also a 3 speed industrial floor blowing fan that is attacted from the outside of the tent, blowing in.. A humidifier down In the corner blowing on low speed, and a heater/fan combo on a quad pod thats on thd low breeze mode that's sensored (If there is too strong of air flow, or if it reaches the air flow which is set on the dial - it automatically turns off.) I have a digital thermostat that says the tent is usually ranges in 70°-82° thru out the week (upper 70s, lower 80s during day. Lower 70s during lights out) I also have a small camera set up that is streaming live to a phone monitor in my room. So I can see any changes of the plants and see the digital thermostat and checc temperature in the tent whenever I want to..
20200515 171217

Now onto the little ones..
- these are the GSC's I have growing in my tent.. the small one took some damage from my roommates cat one day.. I was checcin in on the plants and feeding them - went to fill jug with water and the little bastard, with his ninja cat skills - super dragon kicc'd the fucc outta it..!! (nibbled and chewed off a few big chunks of the leaves)
Here is a before and after pic..
Before:
20200507 050740
After:
20200515 225702

I managed to keep it alive and I'm hoping it makes it to harvest..
the big plant is doing well, I'd say.. I Top'd the main stem of this one like 2-3 weeks ago, and FIM'd the other branches. Idk if its smart to do some topping and FIMing on a single plant, but I guess I wanted to experiment.. so this is how she looks right now.. It was alot more bulkier with its leaves and looked extremely healthy at one point
*picture shown below*
20200507 050728

And then it started to get "Nute Burn" and once I did a flush on her - she now turned out like this..
20200515 225312

I honestly feel as tho I fucc'd up by doing a shiity (yet very careful) job transplanting them into the buccets they are in now...
Well, I think I covered mainly everything that is important enough for you guys to yell at me about, cuz I'm sure I fucc'd a lot thru out this grow 😅.. so there ya go fellas and females (if there are any in this thread) let me know what should be my focus points now and tips and triccs that I should do during these stages..
