Sooo tastey growmaster! Beautiful pics!

Hmmm... I highly doubt this. If ken's cut was the original purple cut then he would know the heritage of the plant. He would be the one who made the cross and the origins of purple wouldn't be a mystery. While ken's cut is argueably the best cut by no means do I think it's the original.

Now I have heard that the original purple strains in Cali are in fact purple phenos of lavender by Soma seeds. I've never grown his lavender but it's not a far fetched theory. Some pics of lavender look strikingly similar to the ones above. Also I forget where but I read a post by soma that hinted that his genetics where all over Cali. Who knows... Maybe someone on here has grown both the clones from Cali and the seeds from soma, do they resemble each other at all?

Interesting theory you have there.... Wonder if any of the older heads from the Emerald Triangle will chime in...

Nice plant master, I bet your yeilded more than mine. I think i got about 18-20 grams.lol
Ive heard some say the PK is the same and other say no way there the same. Maybe ill get my hands on the PK cut and see. Im collecting looking at all the dank purple clones i can get my hands on. I havent tried erkle yet but from what i heard id only use it for breeding.

the story i got was "ken" had a club in san francisco(now shut down).and reworked gdp, adding a little cali o.

theres endless cuts of gdp.very easy to make your own seeds.surprised no one is selling them.some of the dankest i have grown came from seed, just doest yield as well.

i also noticed the longer i run it(9 plus weeks),the more purple it gets.the colder it is the faster it turns purple.slowest grower i ever had.

the kens i got(?????)gets stinker during flower.but seems to be the old gdp once cured.

Ok I gotta clear some things up.

Ken's cut is Purple Erkle x Big Bud or Purple Erkle x Salmon Creek Big Bud. Basically by doing this or these crosses, he brought back the legendary strain that was thought to be lone gone. So, he revived it, not created. But since the original strain is not around no more, he is now known as the creator or Grand Daddy Purple.

BTW, Purple Erkle is also known as Purple Urple which came from the Emerald Triangle. Honestly, there's too much hype with Humboldt.

I am pretty sure LAVENDER, aka Purple Super Kush, did not start the purple craze. But if I am wrong, Lavender probably started the purple craze but not by storm compared to ken's GDP. It was ken's GDP that started the West Coast to go crazy over purple. After his release and debut of the strain, many local rappers started singing songs about purple weed like " I got grapes", thus the article Grapes of Wrath by High Times where HT gave credit to Ken as the creator of Grand Daddy Purple. It was then and there that purple weed was sought by the masses. That's was also when other breeders tried to make their own purple strains and now we have a WIDE variety of purple strains we do today.

Now if you asked me, IMO, purple weed is not the best. It has a good appeal, but I had better smoke. My favorite has to be White Widow or Northern Lights from the late 90's or early 2000. But they don't make them like they use too. F the purple.

The reason why I asked for the authentic of the cut is because I have grown interest in it. I want to see, have and taste the ORIGINAL GDP and not some variant I have been doing for years. I am reluctant to buy from unknown growers. Ken's cut GDP, as I was told by Ken's very own employee in Ken's very own store, has spider mites, fungus gnats and one other pest. This means that there is a good chance that they have used some kind of poison or pesticide to get rid of the pest. To me, I can not consume that. I want quality meds without pest and pesticide. So i am looking for a person with a clean ken's GDP cut, but no one can really verify its genetics. As of now, I can only get a REAL Ken's cut from his store, but I don't want the extras that come with it; the bugs, the hassle and the headaches from a bug infested garden.

Just recently I received a few cuttings that are great and unbelievable. The cuttings were Northern Lights #5 and MTF aka Alaskan Thunderfucker. I was told these cuttings were legit and I decide to add these to my garden. If these are real, I will keep them around and share

Northern lights, I have seen it as a kid and it should smell very sweet and it has a very sweet and spicy taste to it. So once it is done, I can verify its authenticity. MTF on the other hand is a heated debate. Many people, like with GDP, claim its dead. Well I do not know if this is true, but I just got a cutting of MTF. After it done, it should smell like Black grapes and taste straight up like chocolate in your mouth. And if it does, then MTF it is.

Also, just because a club say this bud is this or that, does not mean it is what labeled. It is whatever the vendor sold it to them as. But you can almost always verify it with taste, smell and buzz. MTF is a creeperte Smells like black grapes and taste like chocolate. Anything other than that, I can BS. Another fine example is White Widow. It has a nice clean crisp smell, almost like the smell of lemons or something, but it is very distinctive.

But really, lets get back on topic and watch this grow. I just had to clarify some things up. I hate it when people state things like you're wrong but dont give the reasons why they are wrong or vice versa.

Nice plants purpleberry. Are you a Cali head? I got some authentic PK but I don't like it. If you want to know how to get your hands on some cuttings PM me.

i have the kens gdp cut and its 100% authentic as i got it from the man himself. it appears to be mite free.. but i did have a contamination of mites from a green crack cut in the flowering chamber.. veg seems pretty much clear.. but i grabbed a blue dream at the same time as the green crack from the same source and ive noticed subtle signs on 1 or 2 leaves of tiny mites beginning.. definately not an issue tho.. i just know what to look for from the beginning. im spraying with neem oil regularly and i have yet to see a single mite.. when i do the clones ill put the clone under the sink and spray off all the undersides of the leaves and then treat with neem during veg.. i also introduced predatory mites as a precaution.. the mites in the flowering chamber are under control and are not affecting anything.. i trimmed back the fan leaves and spray every couple days with plain cold water.. this keeps them under control.. i have the kens and the urkle side by side and they are very very similar just the kens is bulkier and yields much better.. the urkle stays close knit and short and bushy.. kens is about the same just a step up in size and vigor.. the urkle is fire.. but yields very low.. tight dense buds that are sticky like super glue and very very stinky.. kens is the same except yields more, and a slight variation in the smell/flavor.. i prefer the kens personally.. every single bud is tight and dense.. even the small ones at the bottom. the ken's gdp is a strain i sought for many years.. i had a boy from the bay that would get it for me all the time around 2005 and it was the best weed ever.. very rich flavor.. 100% solid purple.. and the best high.. u can just smoke all day because the flavor is so "Grapes".. and the buds look like grapes.. 100% purple.. i used to laugh when id have a fat sack in my hand cuz it looked like a batch of grapes. then id hear "got purple, i got grapes" in my head from the nump song.. anyway.. i believe when he said kens is the original he meant the original grandaddy.. not the original purple.. in fact i think i recall reading that the cali purple kush aka purple napal aka purple urkle aka the purps aka lavendar (although i did lavendar is a diff pheno personally) was the one that got a lot of praise back in the 80's from norcal.. ken created grandaddy purple in 2004 or so.. since then there has been a flood of many diff kinds of purple.. most of which now adays are green but with the smell/taste.. i recall kens was sought after because it was 100% purple, fat dense buds, and the taste was grapes all the way to the ash rip.. and it had a very good sedating/pain relief high to it.. very much a body buzz without the trippy mind effects.. which i love. i believe its supposed to be a fix for the purple urkle.. same taste same smell same high but a higher yield and an improvement to growth vigor.. anyway in my opinion spider mites shouldnt hold u back from great genetics.. when u cut your clones just blast some cold water on the undersides of the leaves to spray off any eggs and treat with neem oil 1-2 times a week all during vegetation.. then while flowering spray with clean cold water a few times a week.. mites cannot thrive in conditions as such and will not be an issue at all.. they may even die off if they cant lay eggs.. anyway.. the kens cut i got is perfectly healthy.. no problems.. im about to take maybe 6 clones off 2 plants and keep em going.. going to be hard to dump off the urkle cuz its so good but yields too low and veges too slow.

^^^

I have a bug free garden and don't want to worry about controlling or maintain mites. It feel so good to not have to worry about spraying my plants at all unless I foliage my plants.

I agree, I want to see, grow and taste the real deal and not some variant.

yeah i agree bug free is stress free.. but to get some killer genetics id deal with em for a rotation then just be extra sure to eliminate em from the next round of clones taken.. eggs come off rather easily and u have little to no leaf area to wash when its done on a fresh cut clone. but then again some areas have beast mites which dont quit.. the ones i have are mellow and easily controlled.. i dont even see them other than some small eggs on the bottom of the white dotted leaves.

i have the kens and the urkle side by side and they are very very similar just the kens is bulkier and yields much better.. the urkle stays close knit and short and bushy.. kens is about the same just a step up in size and vigor.. the urkle is fire.. but yields very low.. tight dense buds that are sticky like super glue and very very stinky.. kens is the same except yields more, and a slight variation in the smell/flavor.. i prefer the kens personally.. every single bud is tight and dense.. even the small ones at the bottom. the ken's gdp is a strain i sought for many years..

thanks dude that definitely cleared some stuff up for me. good read

Man I totally agree with sidewing. Why pass up good genetics just cause the cut has mites. I'd rather pay $300 for a super bomb cut thats mite infested yellow almost dead in a freakin oasis cube than $5 for a perfectly healthy 3 ft tall mother that is mexi shawg genetics.

Mites are real easy to get rid of especially when they are only on a small little clone in veg. They only become a problem when they infest a whole garden of mature flowers... which they do quite easily.

What i do however is just quarantine them in a micro grow box i built from a couple rubber maids until all mites are dead.

i never had mites before.. and didnt realize (cuz they didnt start to show) until about 4 weeks into flowering.. i noticed some webbing around 1 of the bubba kush water leaves.. took immediate action.. ice cold water with a heavy dose of neem then i soaked the plants.. cleared em right up.. but each and every egg under leaves are hard to clear cuz i dont want to pull each one out and wipe the leaf... but they dont seem to survive in the veg box cuz they got sprayed down and then i guess the t5 flouro's they dont like with the 18 hours of light.. as opposed to a hps on 12/12.. i control them in the flower with cold water spray to break up whereever they are (they didnt start reappearing until around day 50-55.. and only on one plant..).. ill just keep spraying the hot zones as there is only like 1-2 weeks left maximum.. then ill clean the area with bleach and be sure the cuttings are cleaned before growth... the mites havent affected anything at all.. and i dry them outdoors which gets to around 40 degrees at night so im sure any left on the drying plant will die off.. the veges i know the green crack cut i got recently had mites on it when i got it but was dipped.. i dont think they got all of it so when it goes into flowering i may have the same issue.. but the following cycle should be 100% clear as i have the genetics i want and the new round of cuttings will all be taken by me and washed well before transplanting.. thinkin of putting some of those black lady bugs (cant recall the name have it written down somewhere) in the space as a preventative measure. hope the green crack is worth the trouble cuz i hear good things about it.. grabbed a new baby romulan too.. high hopes for that. it may make the regular rotation in the future.

even if the lady bugs dont kill the mites off ,which they probably wont. they tend to hang on the plants with the most mites, so you know which ones to treat

Sounds like light stress, put them under 24hours light and they should come out of it in a few weeks, I use to get this problem sometimes when i use to use 18/6
My first try at cloning the kens has failed, its been 3-4 weeks and they wont root, and look real bad. I may get a cloner today and give it a try. I have 2 fat mothers in 7 gallons under t5s, maybe ill throw them under a 600w to get them going before i clone.

fall'09 Grew a typical GDP clone from Harborside And got two special back office clones (Blue Dot and Ken's GDP) IMHO the Kens clone was superior in all catigories. The basic GDP has tight buds at the top of all the colas but half way downthey elongate and become larffy. Plant for plant the Kens produced 14oz more then the Basic GDP and the overall quality of the dried flower is head and shoulders above the Basic GDP.

For what its worth

Nice plants everyone! Ive been trying to get my hands on some real deal purple for a looooong time. I worked with some bcbd purps but that wasnt really my cup of tea. I need something more potent and appealing. Kens GDP seems like a very good fit for my needs ;)
