Going to try something different for me.

Being as it is harvest time; I am going to use the itty-bitty buds and trim leaves. I cut them from the plant and main buds over the last two days. I then froze the entire kit-n-kaboodle in the deep freezer yesterday about this time. Will

I left mine to sit for 13 days and it is very green.
I used my small trim bud as well, but i decarbed it first.

Filtering has been completed (5 microns). No charcoal needed!

I already like the color a LOT better than anything I have done in the past; especially since this is a one pass 3 minute wash.
Distillation tomorrow after work. TTFN

Delay of Game: Distillation Has Started! Finally

Ok, so it wasn't the following day!!

Life got in the way of my growing.

So it is now four days later; i never found anyone to provide an answer to the question of what is the saturation point of 99.5 alcohol? So I took another batch of trim and such from the next nights trimming exercise, and the first pass extract and froze both for 24 hours; then did a three minute wash as before. Then filtered to 5 microns.

Color looks a bit darker but that is probably wishful thinking.

thats kinda amazing dude, you've got the stuff going on. ive got some homegrown and want to volunteer some. i'll have to read. good posts. just posting. i found a recipe for thc sugar using 90% proof everclear, seems the most straightforward way of making something.
7 grams decarbed weed
1 cup of everclear
3/4 cup of sugar
3/4 cup of sugar

decarb weed with chosen method
mix decarbed weed and everclear high proof alcohol (ordered online 85$ shipped through canada post whao)
let decarbed weed and everclear soak 15 mins
filter solution
filter it twice (coffee filter method works)
mix solution with 3/4 cup of sugar, stiring. mix well.
then add the second 3/4 cup of sugar, mix well.
pour the sugary solution onto a parchmented (sp) baking sheet to dry completely.
when dry
put another layer of parchment paper on top and then crush it with a rolling pin/wine bottle to crush into tiny sugary bits.
add to ice cream or or coffee with cream as it needs fat to metabolize.
this was lifted from another forum from user drlollipos. (just wanted to credit the original poster)
can be stored in glass jar for good looks.

it got me to act and order the everclear. i'm second guessing it abit as its pretty flamable and not my thing. i'll probably make it outside.

makes 10mg teaspoons.

Gonna have to give that one a try!! I used get the retail sugar cubes from the shop. They were great for the morning coffee. One and you were good to go.

Distillation Completed - On To the Vacuum Chamber!!

Going to do a 24 hour bake at 114 F then check to see if it needs flipping. In the fourth photo you can see it bubble out the Alcohol as I brought down the pressure towards "full vac". I tilted the chamber back and forth using the pieces of 2x4s' to get better coverage on the paper. It looks like i have a little pile of debris. That is a surprise since i filtered to 5 microns. I can only figure it came from the SourceTurbo itself.

Update: After 24 Hours in the Vacuum Chamber . . .

The result is very stable shatter. Stable at room temp (at least for now), tac free when touched. I could peel it off the paper but you can see i have already "tested" to ensure that the taste was smooth, strong and tasteful. check, check, check. By the way, this is the same sheet, two different light sources.

This has turned out much, much better than my last efforts and i'm looking forward to doing it again in a week or so.

Final step.

Fold paper so that one half of glob comes in contact with the other half; i heated a piece of stone with a torch for a few seconds, placed the sheet on it for a second or two (it was already "snap") then used a warm shot glass to press together; place on a cold-stone for a few seconds to cool. Rinse and repeate until desired size is acheived.
Smoke is smooth and cough factor is no greater than any other product you hit with a hot nail.... Return was not great but i am happy with the quality. As it was filtered down to 2-5 microns it should go really well in my cartridge tips. We'll how that goes tomorrow.

Here's the results of my quest. Found that the 25 micron filters were too small for an intermediate filtering, still working to get something in the 90 micron range, seeing that Magicbuttermaker has a new set of filter bags, might spring for that. My caps were the end result of running the MBM (magic butter maker) for four, four hour regimens at 130 degrees.

So i curious, what do you do with the oil when your batch is finished? if you let it air dry is it just good to go and ready to smoke? im assuming there is more to it that i am not understanding. Thanks.

The oil can be added to food or hit with a hot nail or it can be used like a dab.

Personally, my next step is to place it in a vac chamber and turn it into shatter. Then i can dab it, pen it, etc.

I'm thinking of buying this unit but I am wondering what it does other than reclaim that I'm not already doing open air. I purge the ethanol I use to Winterize the BHO via open air and agitation. About 6-c initially then dropped to 40c under no pressure. I eventually get a very thick substance that once cooled and left out for a few days will go hard. A few seconds in the freezer and it'll snap off.

I was initially hoping the Source Turbo would make a ready made vape oil but it seems more processing after using the Turbo. My fear is that there is too much residual solvent inside the concentrate.

For me it is mostly safety and convenience. I can set it to run and even if i forget about it, it just sits and waits for me to come back. The only time i can't leave is the last "finish" run. At the very end the evap is so quick that you can easily F*&% up. I usually stop when there is a tbsp or so of liquid left, and while it is warm pour it onto silicone. Then just put the silicone into the vac chamber at full vac for a day or so. Flipping every 12-18 hours to make sure all of the gas/alcohol has been removed to get me closer to snap shatter.

Lets talk pre cursor product!!! I have made shatter way way back in the day by just breaking down keif and evaporating with everclear, and you totally get almost clear killer shatter. Now a few things with the pre cursor product....Wouldn't ideal product be the sugar leaf and smalls, or even nice buds? Actually best being keif? Wouldn't that precursor have to be cured and dried properly to maximize the chlorophyll evaporation? ALSO timing, if you use year old crispy dry trim your product will reflect that, i know with BHO and Rosin that its all about timing, when your final product is darker its because of the natural oxidation of the trichomes and oils inside. I know from bubble that treating your trim and smalls is a big deal or you just get keif that never presses or becomes sticky.

I recently bought a source turbo. I press rosin and make hash but for grabbing everything out of the buds the source is pretty fantastic.

I recently got a vacuum purge set...and a buckner is on the way. 7.2 grams of Albino Boogieman dabs (Grape Bubba X LVTK) awaiting purge locked in a mason jar while i make more.

I can press rosin and soak the pucks in EC and get it all that way too. Made some Pine Tar Kush tincture and its beauty night time sleeping.

Fantastic investment and i was on the fence a long while.

Just found this thread..

I unboxed my Turbo this afternoon.

It is currently running with a wash I made from an ounce of GG#4 which was decarbed in the oven inside a mason jar, then put in the freezer for 24 hours next to the 200proof ethanol I got last week. I did two washes. One for 10 minutes, agitated at start and after 5 minutes and a second 20 minute wash. First wash is on the left.

Then I ran it through the Buchner twice. Once with fast paper, once with slow.

Ended up with about 900ml of wash.

I've made ethanol tinctures with simple room temp washes andevaporating off some alcohol in a Sous-vide bath before but this is a giant step up for me.

once it's done processing I plan to spread it on a silicone mat and then let it purge at room temp for a couple days.

I have a couple of questions...

1) why did my nice clear wash produce such a dark concentrate and

2) the last bit of reclaimed alcohol has a slight golden tint, while the first couple of times I drained it the alcohol was perfectly clear.
Why?

How did your shatter turn out? I noticed that with my filtration, I use shake and Everclear, that I let it soak for 1 minute without agitating and the color of my solution is amber/green. When I run the solution through the Source Turbo about 3.5 hours it has a pretty good color. If your solution is nearly green, then that's what is causing your concentrate to be dark. I've done multiple runs and it usually has something to do with the duration of the wash.
