This is a very tardy intro, as I've been a member here since June.

I'm an indoor-outdoor novice grower, only on my second grow now. I grow only for my own medical needs, for pain control and sleep.

I'm a double leg amputee, use a powerchair for mobility, and have to adapt growing techniques to work within my limited physical abilities.

On a limited disability budget, I'm also forced to rely on natural sunlight to augment the T5's I'm growing with indoors. So my plants stay indoors at night, and go out in the morning until it's too hot, then they come in again.

I have to use a lot of creativity to utilize the sun---putting the plants in carts, wheeling them in and out, keeping the pots cool by using wet newspaper to wrap them in, and shade cloth after mid-morning. Plus, they sit on a bed of gravel with water in the bottom to add some humidity. Our humidity here is single digit!

Yes, and that means we live with nosebleeds and cracked lips constantly. Imagine what this intense sun and aridity does to broad leafed Indicas!

Though this is my first post, I have really enjoyed reading the threads here, and studying. One of the member here has been mentoring me through my first grows, and now encourages me to begin posting.

Currently, I have 7 flowering girls that are 28 days 12/12 and 20 days in flower. Strains are: Purple Frosting, Purple Bud, Purple Kush, Wizard, White Widow F2 and White Frosting.

I have 11 seedlings in veg--Aurora Indica, White Dwarf auto, Wizard and California Hash Plant.

I grow in soil, organic.

And best news of all for this novice---I finally have no PH problems! First grow was a PH disaster. But this one is doing fantastic.

Thanks to all the terrific growers on this site who so generously share their information that helps us novices!

Below is a picture of my "Carts of Green" outside getting a suntan.

howdy and welcome to the farm!

carts of green indeed - looking very nice!

I am an amputee too, pot is the only thing that ever worked for me for phantom pains...

Looks like they are loving that sun regardless of humidity!

I count at least 4 carts, gotta be a train of green ;)

Hmmm, maybe Casey Jones next round LOL.

Oh - and welcome!

Hi Wave, and thanks for your response! I can fit about 6 plants in each cart in one-gallon pots. 4 in Three Gallon pots. I have 4 carts. I love these carts--they are plastic, but roll really easily. I spray painted them white to aid in cooling. I was going to just grow right in the cart, with holes drilled in the bottom, but opted instead to try pots.

I still think the carts would work well for growing 2 plants in each one, possibly three.
The carts I have are Ames Easy Roller Plus, and they hold I think about 9 cubic feet each. They were fairly inexpensive. But even better, two developed stress cracks--very slight, but still there. So I wrote to the company, sent pictures, and never asked for anything--I just wanted them to know. 4 days later, two new carts were delivered to me free of charge! The old ones are still fine, and the cracks never got bigger--were just hairline. So I have 4 working carts. Good company to stand behind their products like that!

Yes, the white cloth is shade cloth, and it's to help keep the carts cool, and most important, the soil and roots. THe plants seem to tolerate the sun better on the leaves, as long as it's not too hot, but even at 75 or 80 degrees, the intensity of our sun (no marine layer to soften it) will heat up the pots and roots in no time.

I use every trick in the book to make it work in this impossible climate!

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and welcome me and for your warm and encouraging comments!!

Mojave Mama, glad your on board, I learn so much here at THCFarmer and I'm sure you will as well. When I grew outdoors here in Texas, which can get a wee bit hot as well, I always put my grow planters inside another larger planter lined with newspaper to keep the smaller put from moving around. This saves you from cooking your root system. It always worked like a charm and never had that problem again. Hope this helps. ~ Bill

Cannabill, thanks for your response! Yes, I have lined my pots with newspaper, and forgot to mention that. We also double pot here too. I just don't do it with the cannabis plants because I'm so tight for space. But everything on my patio is double potted, with Spaghum moss between the two pots, kept moist. In the carts, I don't have to do that because I essentially press newspaper all down the cart sides to keep it cool. So what you were doing in Texas is essentially very similar to what I do here. Line pot inside with newspaper before filling with soil, then covering pot with newspaper, then newspaper balled up around all the pots inside the cart. (and wet stones on the bottom).

Sure is a challenge growing in climates like this, isn't it? I"m from the midwest--everything grew there like crazy. I thought I was a pretty fair gardner back then. And then I hit the desert, and it's a whole different ball game.

Thanks so much for posting, Bill, and for the kind welcome!

Hey Rollin J! Great to meet another amp on the board. Are you able to wear artificial legs? I did for 10 years until the circulation got too bad.

I often wish I'd kept all those old legs of mine--imagine how they'd look growing some nice little auto flowering strains now. ROFL....

You're so right that pot is the only thing worth using for nerve ending pain. I hate using pharmaceuticals--I am so messed up for the next 24 hours I'm like a Zombie. That's no life! Pot is fantastic. Especially vaped!

DO you find the Sativas or the Indicas work best for phantom pain? I looooove Sativas but they work like speed on me---I get all jazzed up, creative, and not sleepy at all. So I have to grow Indicas to knock me out.

Thanks for the welcome and the kind words!

Convex, thanks for stopping by to welcome me! Yep 4 carts, and I'm putting on my Casey Jones engineer cap right now! ROFL....

They seem to do okay without much humidity outside, but when they come in, I have a humidifier going in the grow room all the time, though it only keeps it at about 40%.

Oh, how I lust after humidity! I fly back to where I was born, in Michigan, and all I can do is roll in the grass with great glee and marvel over all the big wide leaves on everything. I took that all for granted when I lived there. Now even Christmas lights on cactus plants look normal to me, along with pavement painted green to simulate grass. Hahh!

Thanks for stopping by, Convex! Appreciate the welcome.

yeah I wear a prosthetic pretty much daily (until I break something on it)

I am a knee disarticulation, so I have the end of my femur to bear weight on - it works out really well.

I find that indica is much better for phantom pains - a real wirey sativa will actually cause a slight tingling, almost like my leg fell asleep sensation - I can tell when a sativa is good right away I will get that tingle even before I exhale!

my current med dr tried to give me them pills for restless leg syndrome when I asked him for a pot rec for phantom pains - lol - dickhead!

Whattup Mama!
Nice to see you again!

This reminds me of when I want to piss and moan about dragging my ass to my room to change nutes...You have a lot more to deal with and your crops look great!
:)
