Both, and see which works better for you. Option 1 will take a little longer but keep your plant shorter in the long run (no pun intended).

the 5 plant to the left were all topped and lst

its best in my mind to just low stress train them

If its vigorous and growing like a thoroughbred you can top it. If it's slower I would lst. I topped my last auto and it was fine. I got like 6.5 Oz

I topped them. They are fine. But I'm wondering if I should LST them too. And if I do should I do it like the first or second pic?

I'd lst to keep the canopy level or scrog. This one I topped and scrogged until a few weeks into flower.

I topped it like the 2nd pic and had a simple net I trained it with. But you could top and lst and have similar results.
