I searched Google and looked around this forum for people with this issue. I've found people with similar issues but not this exact one.

My plants are growing fine, feel fine, look fine. All seems good except for the fact some of the plants have yellowing edges on the leaves.

Here's a picture:

and another
Unnamed

The yellowing has gotten lighter and more vibrant than it used to be. First only one plant had it, now 3 of the 6 plants do.

Code:

1 foot

5 Gallon Bags
5. What is your soil mix?
Chicken Manure, Perlite, Nitrogen Mix
6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use?
Every 3-4 days, we used tap water and every few waterings we use Fox Farm food.
7. What is the pH of your water?
6.8
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio?
I don't know.
9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything?
I don't know.

Light burn - reading further and seeing these plants are 3 months old you may be dealing with nutrient burn.

IIs this just on one plant?

I'm gonna stick with light burn as my final answer :p

Light burn
We assumed so, but the light is 3 feet away like we read was the right distance and it's on brightness 6/10.

I guess we should lower the brightness? The light is as far away from the plants as it can get.

Yeah that's the first thing to check/change...sounds like as the plants grow/get bigger they are just reaching into the hot spot. Light is also the primary driver of a plants metabolism, the harder you drive/push with light the more they demand nutrient wise.

Dimming the light and monitoring for a day or two for change is what I'd do.

I saw you edited your first reply.

My brother thinks it's nutrient deficiency. I think it's light burn. So maybe since light burn causes nutrient deficiency we're both right?

He gave them Fox Farm's nutrients last night with water. I lowered the brightness. He thinks it's magnesium deficiency.

Doesn't look like the standard mag def that I usually see. I still am leaning towards light burn as that is what it looks like - edges/tips of leaves, leaves closest to the light.

Think of your light like the engine of a car - would you throw a 1000hp engine in a stock Ford Tempo and expect it not to fall apart somewhere? :) Your nutrients are the same in regards to your light and how hard you drive your plant. If you drive your plant HARD you better be damn sure you're providing enough nutrition.

This was one of the pics they had under Mag def - I do see some similarities on the lower leaves that are like yours. Do you see any yellowing or light green happening inbetween the veins? My mag defs 100% always show up like this(no yellow edges at all, but light green starts from the outer edges and moves inwards):

That's how they looked at first and it got brighter and brighter over time.

My advice is:

-start with lowering the light intensity. 50% for a few days @ your current height.
-add 2-4 tablespoons of Epsom salt unscented to the watering of each plant next water cycle if you truly believe it's still a Mag def

50% of what it is now? It's at 6/10 so that'd be 3/10 isn't that a bit too steep of a change?

Not for a few days to isolate the problem. It won't take long to find out and then respond accordingly 👍🏼

My brother added magnesium yesterday. Do you think I should wait to see if the yellowing goes away? or stops? (idk how it works)

or should I lower the light now? What should I see to know if it worked?

Also tysm for your help.

Follow what @Shaded_One has suggested. He's given you solid advice.

The other method to get through a magnesium deficiency would be to use epsom salts as folliar spray. This would be the quickest way to relieve a mg deficiency. 1/2 teaspon of epsom salts per gallon of water . Turn down the lights to their lowest level and spray the greenery. Once it's dried, you can raise the intensity some ... to 3 of 10. For now, that's sufficient.

Old growth won't heal. Your new growth should green up and not show those yellow tips. Even if its "only" light burn, the extra amount of magnesium that both @Shaded_One and I have suggested is not going to harm your plants.

Thank you both. This helps a lot. I was wondering how I'd know if it's working.

Our goal is to eventually scale up and grow a lot, maybe even turn the basement into a grow room. This first grow is just to figure out all the issues we might encounter and hopefully get it down to a science.

Again, you guys have been hugely helpful. Thank you.

Most of my basement has been made into a grow area. How many plants would you like to run in a grow cycle? Where I live, retail weed is cheap. You probably wouldn't save money ... but you can grow better weed than the dispensaries are selling with a little bit of practice.
