Weird growth in my reservoir, I use Athena nutrients so everything is sterile. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

It’s very jelly like when I wiped it off

Organic nutrients maybe? From some looking around, others mention some organic nutrients are not necessarily hydro specific and have a tendency to froth to a brown mess. Imo: if there is accumulation of something, it is coming from somewhere. For it to create matter would tell me something is being stripped out of the water (nutes) from reacting with the oxygenated air. I’d assume that whatever nutrients you may be using are separating and accumulating or collecting from a gummy ingredient to allow the nutrients to adhere to the root system for absorption. Use a more hydro friendly nutrient?

I prefer an air stone that produces larger bubbles, that resemble a rolling boil. An air stone that produces lots of tiny bubbles may be “working” the nutrients in a way that makes the molecules react and break down?

Is this a thing, or merely suspected?

I do use air stones but everything I use is synthetic so it is completely sterile there is nothing organic in Athena’s nutrient line up. I suspect it to be some sort of bacteria just don’t know what to do to get rid of it.

Try this if you want to experiment. Remove the electrical cords from your water. Car engine coolant. When water is introduced to electricity and that water has an EC rating of metals, even very tiny electrical current can cause the metals to collect and bond together. This is exactly the concept of the coolant in your car which the engine is grounded and carries current. The engine coolant is treated for it. When the EC of engine coolant hits a certain point it needs changed out to prevent your radiator and heater core from corroding and those metals building up on the metal components. It is possible that you have a reaction in the water. If you want to check this without doing crazy Sht, take a volt meter to the water and see how much electricity you have going through that water with electrical cords running inside. Do you run a thermo cooler?

If you have electricity flowing in the water you may have a broken silicone seal at a wire or something. Any uninsulated pet can bring in electricity to it. Yeah I am guessing. Anybody have 2cents on this issue?

Many products use xanthan gum. It could be a buildup of that? A lot of pest control water additives use it to help adhere to roots for larvae and absorption into the roots.

water is too clean for the slim to be "grown" there. Might it be an additive that didn't get dissolved completely?
