My buddy gave me an “auto” that he started in a solo cup, but it’s just a single stem with a couple leaves, no branches lol. Anyone seen this before? Is this just how autos grow?

Wtf is this got from buddy

It looks like it needs some TLC. So, I suggest gradually increasing its nutrients to see how it recovers.
Needs some tlc for sure but never seen this before where it grows straight up and doesn’t put out branches. At first I thought it was a clone but was told it’s an auto from seed. Guess we’ll see what happens lol. One stick with a bud on top? 🤣

Anyone else ever see this before? Think he just removed the branches? I’d ask him but not able to.

It’s starved for nitrogen, it’s growing that way because there is no food to support extra branches, it’s doing the bare minimum. The soil must pretty lax on live nutrients. The purple striping on the stem is tell tale.

I've seen plants emphasize the main stem when they're low on the things they need to grow. Without knowing what the previous owner did, we can only guess. It could be any of several things, like water, light, nutrients, or whatever. A plant's main purpose in life is to reproduce, so if it doesn't have much, it'll put what it has into growing the main stem.

So, if this were my plant and out of curiosity, I'd probably give it low doses of basic nutrients to see how it responds. It might do okay, but it might be getting too late in the growing season to get any bud from it.

Also, looking again, how long are your wet dry cycles?

Agreed 100%

Cool thanks guys. I usually grow photos indoors, and usually know everything that’s happened beforehand lol.

No wet/dry cycles yet. Just got it yesterday and put it in fabric with some dirt from outside (last grow‘s soil, I have a spot I dump it all so next spring I can grow some hot peppers and lettuce lol) anyway, I mixed in some worm castings and One Shot and left some clovers growing in it. This is sorta an outside/auto test run I suppose. If it needs more time at the end of the season I can bring it indoors to a separate tent, unless I hear too many horror stories of doing that, bringing in tiny bugs to a tent I’ll use in the future etc.

The One Shot takes a while to release I think, so I’ll keep an eye on the new growth and see if it needs a good feeding. I should probably re-pot it so the stem isn’t so long since I hear autos shouldn’t be LST’d right? Or is that a bunch of malarky?

Man, lst with autos is fine. That’s poppycock 🤣 and yeah, castings will help for sure! And np homie!

Also noticed it has spidermites, smh. Sprayed it down with some rosemary oil. I’ll let it sit outside and do it’s thing I suppose, out of curiosity. Just picked up some soil so I got some fresh seeds started for the tent inside. I’ll start a new thread for the grow once they go into solo cups.
