How long can I keep my seedlings in a 16oz cup safely. They are photo period white widow seedlings 17 days old. The problem I have is I bought a light before I knew anything about leds. It was advertised as being 600watt but really was only 90watt. 35 watt in veg mode. Right now the light is ok I plan on upgrading the light in 2 weeks. If I up pot them into there bigger pots I don't think my light would be enough. Here's some pictures of the roots. On my biggest plant and the weakest one.

Also I may add. Never use clear cups, it will harden off the exposed roots. Which will stunt it.

There's no rush to get out of solos. Here's my current batch of seedlings, 29 days from seed in 18 ounce solos. They're getting transplanted today, but just saying...you have some time. I second @Choppr's advice about drainage, and @Captspaulding's about clear cups.

I agree, no real rush, @Choppr and @ArtfulCodger are right about solos, you can run them all the way, it’s just not optimal if you are a newer grower. It’s totally doable though. You just best be checking water weight of your pots a lot.

I'll agree you can keep them in solo cups for a long time but you'll root wrap the bottoms and start to stall them if they're in too long. 3 weeks in the 12oz is about it for me, any longer I can usually see them stall and lose the daily increase in size and I'd like to transplant before I top them.

I used a cup of the same medium I put them in and left it dry. I use it to check when my cups feel light. I've only watered twice. My first attempt I put seeds in big pots and watered to much.

Good play switching back to the cups. Overwatering in giant pots becomes a hassle when you don’t have a root zone to suck up the water, get too saturated and roots won’t be able to get to the low lying water at the bottom of the pot. Way to be!

First time I knew something was wrong they just stopped growing.

It easily one of the biggest mistakes I see new growers make. It’s cool though, you figured it out. So right on! It’s a really simple problem that can snowball fast. Seriously, way to be.

Thanks man that puts my mind at ease. I was worried about them getting stunted in the cups. In 2 weeks I should have a real light for them.
