There are SOOOOOO many great ways to grow......

I also have looked into worms.....

I just don't want to kill the lil fu#%ers because of my stupidity.....all they want to do is help.....I'd be worried about me doing something that isn't right.....

It does seem like a pretty easy diy, though I haven’t gone that route myself. I need everything to be streamlined and perfectly functional with my ridiculous farming schedule so I buy shit. Speaking of, planting season starts back up for me in just one more month, holy shit..

I get way too comfortable in the winter..
Same here, I got this catalog the other day and it got me thinking about popping other type of seeds for a change
Baker Seeds has some very cool offerings, I've never tried them but I have a lot in my shopping cart

That's beautiful! I always grow cherokee purples, along with sun golds and 2 other cherry varieties. Nobody else offers cherokee purple as a single variety around here so I'm able to charge a premium to restaurants for them. It's consistently every chef's favorite variety.

OH Sun Golds! man where had I been?! I grew them last summer and was blown away, heads and tails better flavor.
I'm trying the cherokees this year as well

The cover picture is of a Purple Galaxy (the photo sucked me right in) but when I tried to order a pack they have this posted! lol

We had hoped to have very limited quantities of Purple Galaxy tomato seeds for sale in 2024. However, we are experiencing production issues with this variety, and it is now unlikely that we will be able to offer it to our customers.

Well, if they are having production issues that isn't a good sign anyways. Cherokee Purple all day! Best results are from one or two central leaders. Prune off every last sucker and have them trellis up a single string, or two if you do double leaders. You can plants them as close as 10" from each other if you do single stem. 10" is what I do. I grow hundreds. Get your starts a foot high if you have time, prune of the lower 1/2 to 2/3 and transplant super deep.

What hygrometers/thermometers do y’all use? I had a good one, but fucking dropped the shit and I think it’s off slightly. But I can’t really tell. It just seems most likely to become faulty to me after the drop.
@INKBIRD makes good gear for that.

excellent tips, thx Rama! I'll save this intel
I like to try different grow techniques and haven't ever used a string trellis for tomatoes, I think I'll try your style out.
I grew 1 Sweet 100 last year that spilled over the top, by Fall I was climbing a ladder to make a salad! 😆

Gosh never thought about different tomato varieties, as we always get just “ normal tomatoes “ wonder what the taste is like from the other varieties

This is what 10” spacing looks like with single stems. I left the shade cloth on the hoop house for too long last year so they ended up being taller than I like them to be. Pain in the ass harvesting the top clusters in the fall..
But wait, those are cherry tomatoes, not cherokee.
Never mind, I just realized you are showing spacing not variety.

Once you grow cherokees you'll grow them every year ;) Yeah those are cherries but I grow cherokee the same, even though they are fatties. I just don't have a photo. They are an indeterminate variety, as are cherry tomatoes. Determinate tomatoes need to be grown more like bushes. Determinates set all the fruit within a short window of time, relatively. Indeterminate varieties will keep pumping at 100% until the cold gets them.
