Hi,

Started this project three months ago. Started with 3 seeds (Raspberry Parfait fem) in peat pods and got 2 to pop. During the transplant I mangled one so now have just one "spoiled child". I did not have a grow light and used whatever natural sunlight I could during the months of March and April. I am using Fox Farm Ocean forest mixed with perlite and some compost as my current medium. I live in NorCal near the coast and have been trying to use as much natural sunlight as can be provided. I did buy a low-watt grow light in May and have been exposing the plant to the grow light at night. So trying to expose it to as much light as possible.

So while I am really happy to have gotten this far, I think I could use some advice on how to get to the finish line. As a first time grower I never realized that these plants can be so beautiful.

Cheers!

First is it legal to grow where you are?
Do you want to grow indoors? If so you need a light.

Where are you in relation to spring and summer growing season where you are.
If it's legal and spring stick some in the ground or outdoor pots. A time and fertilizer the sun will take care of the rest.

I'm not a fan of a tent myself but I have a small indoor grow space and a 300w light.
so I can grow and flower 1 small plant at a time indoors, and have a light to start my spring seedlings. It's nice to have.

So if you think they are pretty now, weight till your standing in the back yard looking at something like this all budded up.

I use 15gal pots with holes i drilled along sides. Mine are outside in the sun all day i never move them unless there's bad weather then i drag them under my patio. I grow photoperiods and autos. What your using is fine soil wise, later on during the heat waves i top dress with wormcastings and will shade them at temps over 95f. I'm in Oregon 1hr from the coast and it gets real breezy so i put poles along sides and tie the trunks to it. Nothing special to do just watch for bugs.

It's legal for me to grow a limited amount of plants. I prefer to grow outdoors but thought that bringing it indoors at night under a light would help it grow a little faster. I am heading into what I consider the sweet spot for my growing season, 10 to 12 hours of sunlight for the next 6 to 8 weeks. So maybe I should leave it outside 24/7. Any idea how long I have to wait until I am ready for buds?

Nice, I am now thinking of just leaving mine under natural light and watch it grow. Thanks!

Man we got 14+ hours of sunlight here. Gotta watch out less than 12hrs may put them into flower if there photoperiods. What are those?

That's an awesome looking plant. How long did it take to get it to that size?

Wow, I did not know that less than 12 hours would make it flower!! Raspberry Parfait fem..

  • Photoperiodic Flowering: 60 Days, Oct.1st-10th So I just pulled this from Humboldt Seed for my plant. So what exactly does the Photoperiodic flowering mean?

That's ok.
You say the days are getting shorter about 12 hours of daylight.
In this case your plants will begin to flower. Do not take them inside or mess with lighting.
As stated the shortening day trips the plant to flower when the light is about 12 hours.

Once they start showing signs of flowering. You need to begin feeding them a flowering mix fertilizer
to help them produce bud. rather than growing a lot of green leaf and branches.

I am close enough to the coast that my summers are foggy and cool and thus shorter hours of sunlight. Curious, if I wanted to delay the flowering to allow the plant to grow taller, could I place the plant under a grow light at night to give it hours in excess of 12?

It's spring, you're in California, there's more than 12 hours of daylight, your plants not going to flower now outdoors.

It means it flowers based on the duration of darkness. That is different from auto-flowering types that flower based on the age of the plant. Auto-flowering types are bred with ruderalis. Photoperiodic types are not.
Thank You! Now I understand how the flowering process starts or is activated. I realize it must have been a dumb question but I guess if you don't ask you won't learn..

how far north? I’m about 1.5 hours south of San Francisco.

I’d just say get it outside and keep an eye for anything weird/bugs, our states made for weed

Hey,
I am across the Bay from SF, so I get the Bay weather. My single child is doing well in this outside environment. Had been feeding it every 2 to 3 weeks and watering it every 2 to 3 days depending on the weather. Recently changed feeding to more like every 10 to 12 days after reading that the nutes in Fox Farm ocean floor were only good for about a month. I tried my first prune job a week ago. Have to admit I liked it before when it was fat and sassy. Decided not to top and let it grow. I figure I have 2 more months of veg so hoping to add a couple of feet. Your setup in Hollister looks pretty good! I am envious.

That’s a good looking plant you got! We can trade whenever you’re ready 🤣

Nice, I used to work at the ferry building in SF if you ever went to farmers markets out there. Working in Fremont now. Commute sucks but gotta chase the money you know?

I’ve read about fox farm nutes but I read one of their feeding charts and it just looked like too much lol. I opted to use jacks 20-20-20, but it was bright blue and made me nervous putting t in stuff I’ll end up consuming so I went for gaia green instead.

It’s all a learning experience for me though, I’ve smoked a lot of weed, used to bake BHO and pretend I was cool, but this is the first attempt at growing 🤞

I started growing with Ocean Forest, then I started mixing it with Happy Frog, now I grow in Happy Frog only, adding a little perlite and dolomite lime. I’m pretty happy with my current results.

This is one I grew much like you grew your own. Extended period of inadequate light indoors, then on 5/20 I put it in my recently vacated tent under LED lamp to veg for a week, then 5/27 I flipped it to 12/12 light schedule. This is it at just under 8 wks post flip.

The poor light earlier in veg built a weak foundation for growing big tops. It’s hanging in there, but I’m having to tie up heavy tops for support. Still, I’m happy to see all of the fattening flowers! So I agree with others here, a good light gives you options.
