First plant issues, curling leaves

Hello, I am growing my first plant. Im in Illinois and it is legal. I have feminine plant that doesnt produce, its a decorative plant but wanted to practice on a plant with limited value. Anyway, all was going well when I realized I over watered. The pot had poor drainage and the plant started curling down. I removed from the pot and soil was soggy so I reported. I have made good drainage and the last 2 weeks I've cut back on water. The plant seems to be returning to normal accept the highest leaves furthest from soil. They are still curled over. This gets confusing as I would think leaves closer to water would be affected first. Anyway, I attached a video. I also found the soil is a bit alky, just under 8 on the scale so last water I added acid, bit soil hasn't really changed.

If you got this plant today, what would you do to bring it back to full life? She used to have big beautiful leaves spread wide and I want that back.

Is it still have too much water and I just need to let it dry? Should I do anything else? This is my first plant and I have two seeds that just sprouted and are about 4" and I want to make sure those are taken good care of.

It's not water.
The problem is Nitrogen. She needs better light for the amount of fertilizer you are feeding.
Cannabis is a very high light plant. Go outside on a clear sunny afternoon full sun. This is what your plant is looking for.

She is simply overloaded with (N) Not because you are feeding her to much. But because it cannot utilize what you are giving her due to poor lighting conditions. Just water for 2 or 3 weeks. Then start feeding again about 1/2 the (N) you are feeding now. Improve the light X4.

P.H issue.
It will take some time to bring the soil P.H down. Just start watering with 6.0 water so you don't shock her.
Your soil will gradually come down. Resume 6.5 water.
Should fix her up.

Yes run her a little on the dry side. Look at the stem of the leaf. If the stem is straight and the leaf hangs heavy, it's over watered. If the stem is bending over and the leaf is hanging it's drooping because it needs water.

If you are going to grow set up a little light in a closet. It's fun and easy to do.
Learn how to low stress train so you can keep your plants short and bushy.

You don't need a big grow tent and lights. This is my indoor setup. Super simple.
300w light 10 years old got it for $50. A fan and a timer. 16 on 8 off.
Closet is 24" X 24" X 48" tall.

Small space Laughing Buddha Plant

After growing a monster Buddha last summer I wanted to try a mini Buddha. As my indoor setup is only 24" X 24" about 40" tall. I prefer to grow one plant at a time rather than stuff my grow space. Light is an older Mars 300 60 LED at 24". Soil. Recipe came from a Dr Bruce Bugbee video. 50 / 50...

I would drop her into big textile bag with nice medium and put her near that fan on patio 😉
I mean it's a big plant with big needs and you keep it in small pot, near window- so you will encounter more and more problems. If you touch that claw on the end of leaf and find it's stiff- it's overdose on nitrogen.
read about dry/wet cycles in growing cannabis and dry her back properly
what did you sprout there?

As someone new to this, I'm trying to understand the nitrogen toxic conclusions when the leaves aren't dark green. All examples of nitro tox that I have seen the leaves are hunter green. Can you help me understand why 2 out of 3 of you came to that conclusion? Trying to learn.

Hello Organic13.
You need to understand that growing real good weed is a passion for me. I have been studying the art for many years. Read articles and watch hours of video a week. I also grow both indoors and out. As you acquire more experience you begin to see things others don't. The hunter green question is valid and in most cases on point but there are exemptions. In this case I do not believe this is an overdose type of situation rather a long term just a little more than she can use due to very low lighting conditions. So the tips are rolled back but she has not turned real dark green. I could be wrong but I feel that this is the case with this plant.

Healthy cannabis requires much better light than a windowsill can provide. So I suggested a small light and instructions on how to low stress train. Keeping plants short and bushy with an even canopy is the trick to indoor growing.

When growing indoors I have also found that when I grow 1 real nice plant, I tend to produces a much finer finished product as I devote my time and energy on one plant rather than tending to the needs of 3 or 4. plants.

Ya, transplant into full sun in a bigger pot 3 months ago there Nick. My outdoor plants are almost finished stretching. That's 2 1/2 - 3 weeks into flower. If he is anywhere withing about 1000 miles of me it's already to late to transplant and move the plant into the sun. The truth is that nothing the OP does is going to fix it. If it flowers it's not going to produce anything even 1/2 descent bud wise in the available light.

I’m in IL too fam, you sure the humidity isn’t too high? Staying within vpd? Also if you transplant and water you’d be fine, best thing to do for this is let the soil just dry and then before you water it weigh it by just holding or with a scale and then pick it up throughout the days and notice the weight go down, it’s always better to underwater than to overwater but if you think it’s overwatered are you getting fungus gnats cause that’s a fs if so. I’ve had these same problems in my first grows so don’t sweat it too much, I just recently trashed too plants I overwatered and were in flower and had gnats. It’s all a learning experience, that’s what makes it fun!

Transplant only once so go from a cup or dome to a 5-7 gal. Seems like it would be too big but roots start growing like crazy Especially using great white in the soil during transplant. But you only want to transplant once cause you’ll keep shocking the plants which sets them back

My plants are shorter then yours so figure out how big the root system is on your plant.
If that plant was mine I be transplanting it ... big pot or fabric grow bag.

Top soil 101 .
50% of top soil is silica and 5% nutrients the silica is crystalline silica < mineral < slow absorption.
Organic silica like Silica gold is organic and absorbs allot faster ,
Organic silica is from rice hulls and will make you plant stronger .
When you transplant take over watering issue out.... Mix what ever bagged nutrients to 40% top soil sand and pea gravel.
this helps cover some of the micronutrients, and gives your grow medium good drainage ..
Its really a win, win .
Over watering ,,, No not really. over watering is where there is a lack of oxygenated water too the roots.

I wasn't questioning your ability to grow, your tenure at studying & growing or even your love of the plant. I was merely trying to understand how you deduced to NT. Thanks for explaining your view on this and attaching the video. I will check it out on my TV as it is over 40 minutes long.

My questions are so that I can learn. I am, in fact, on a cannabis educational forum. My questions are never meant to make someone feel that I am questioning their knowledge. I am merely trying to gather information so that I have a better understanding of what is being discussed. I am an extremely curious person by nature that literally questions everything until I was a clear understanding of it regardless of the subject matter.

Hey, thank you so much for responses. I have started the PH change and the soil is reading closer to 6.5.

So last two questions in regards to your answers. First, look at the pic with the pot. Many seem to think pot it too small? I actually out her in this pot from a very small one, so didn't know how big to go.

Second, pics of my leaves near the top curling over. Some say Nitrogen, som say light. I included another picture to give a better idea. I hate to over water, but also want my first baby to be healthy.

Let me know on pot size, and leaf condition, and can I add grow lights instead of taking outside? Thanks again, I'm learning fast.
