Had a buddy(I got a lot of 'em) that went to Cal State Berkeley for his Chemistry major. Called me one day telling me he was coming down to L.A. and if he could crash at my pad while he was here. When he got to my place and unpacked he pulled out 2 gallon zip locks. One was filled with a bunch of empty capsules and the other had, what looked liked, brown sugar.

I asked him what it was and he just smiled and said "MMDA!!!". Oh Shit!!! He told me he made it in the lab and if I helped him fill the capsules he'd give me some. We filled all the capsules with what he had and he filled a sandwich baggie with some and gave it to me.

We decided to go out that evening and check out some of the live music happening in town. It was myself, my GF and Clay. Clay was already tripping by the time we got to the club so after he got a cold one in his hand he disappeared. I gave my GF a capsule and she took half. I took a whole one. The band that was playing that night was my buddy Erics. I went backstage, found Eric and gave him a handful. About a half hour later his band goes on and they play through a few songs then take a quick break to retune. My buddy Eric is the singer so he gets on the mic and starts thanking everyone.

"Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for coming out but I especially want to thank my buddy Jonny for giving me this amazing ectasy! I'm so fucking high right now!"

I was playing music at that time so I was used to people staring at me but when the entire club is looking at you because you have a giant bag of MMDA......that was not the best feeling in the world! 😆

I grab my GF and Clay and tell them both we need to leave...NOW! The shit was coming on hard for me so the GF had to drive.

Still have no idea how we made it home........

that stuff was fantastic, i loved it!! but when it changed to being called extacy and mostly pill form it wasn’t as good, actually not even close..

I dont think ruining / or ruined is the word I would have used? but "Modern Hybridization" I agree has definitely changed weed and always will, it has brought some things and weve lost things, Hybridization is now mostly done indoor in modern Soils/media. Back in the day (70's) we grew everything outdoor and we grew in (shit) manures, blood/bone meals and highly composted soils (high in sulfur).... shit and earthen soils had a lot to do with skunkier more earthy strains... Seed/Weed now are mass produced(multi-million dollar facilities) indoor in Coco/Hydro/Salt Ferts for the faster/bulkier growth to turn that profit! I would say Modernity and Greed is the Killer of the Old Earthen Strains. I haven't seen the "real skunk" for over 10 years now. Im a Coco/Hydro/Salts grower, If I had the "Real Skunk" id have to go back to Soil and Manure! and that aint happening.

yes i remember on a farm putting seeds in piles of horse or cow manure and plants would easily be over 10ft, probably landrace weed considering when it was,..
modernity and greed and breeding, breeding is what weakens weed brings on disease, viriods, viruses, pests, mildew,. all because of breeding, (potato famine, banana cloning),.
now we have things like tissue culture to help with this?? this is a complete joke, and why? corporate just has to control at all costs,.. when we all could be just letting the farmers in the marijuana countries provide us with all the seeds, marijuana and hashish the world needs,..

Seems like it's gone to extinction unfortunately. The one I really would love to have is the "Red Hair". The high is unmatched by any smoke I've ever tried. Elevated, Uplifted, Kaya Natural Mystic.

Order seeds from Holland you can get all the og strains. But I truly believe you are putting stuff on a platform for not reason. The strains are two and three times stronger today. People are comparing sensi grows to Mexican brick weed. I smoked all through the 90s and it was great but not like today. Now we have a million options at our fingertips.

and in the 90’s the weed was already terrible,. late 80’s is when it changed,.

I remember that thai stick and AG from the late 80’s early 90’s…that shit was awesome.

But something i have noticed, flower these days kinda smell the same and taste the same. Obviously, there are differences, but nothing like it was back then.

Back then you KNEW when you had shitty brick weed or some really nice land race strains. The taste and smell was night and day.

Now, and i say this knowing i am aging myself, it seems like it is all about the high these days. The higher % the “better” it is “supposed” to be. I have seen sooooo many people say “19%…that shit sucks. Gimme some 35%….that shit is fire”. Yet, i would rather sit and smoke some really nice tasting durban poison at 17% than some garbage 35% crap.

At the risk of sounding like an old bastard, kids these days will never know the pleasure and taste of some old school, red thread wrapped, Thai stick. Ya, the % wasnt super high, but my gosh the smell and taste was amazing. I Still remember how i felt after my first pull from a Thai stick J…..shit put a smile on my face.

i have a clear memory of a buddy and i sitting on a picnic table smoking some thai and having laughing attacks lasting over an hour about nothing hahaha my stomach was sooo sore from laughing so hard for so long.. i had to of been 17 yrs old,

The old Thai Stick was awesome! I had a source for it in the early/mid 80's, so I was dealing as a means to smoke for free and have beer money! People all loved it. I was one of the first assholes in my town to start selling joints for $2 instead of $1, and people where cleaning me out fast.

I took the GF on a trip to Costa Rica to show her how beautiful the country was. We were thinking of moving there when we retired.

West coast CR was great and we had a blast cruising up and down the west coast. After a couple of weeks of doing that we decided to drive across the country to the east coast of CR to see what that was like. We ended up in a little town called Puerto Viejo.

We found a really cool place that had secluded cabinas. The owner was a retired Panamanian General. My GF was a model that did print work at the time. The General took a liking to her the first time he laid eyes on her!😄

He invited us up to his private home and pulled out the dankest Panama Red I've ever smoked. After we left his place it took us a 1/2 hour to find our cabina!!!

My take on the quality of weed today is that I'm not so opposed to the crossbreeding. I think it makes it better. What I'm opposed to is the breeders releasing their crossbreeds too early and without concern for the overall effects. I get that it takes a lot of time and energy to crossbreed and I understand that time is money but I think that, more than anything else, this is what leads to substandard effects in a majority of the cultivars.

It's like dispensary weed. When I worked at commercial outfits the master growers weren't pheno hunting. They were just trying to grow as much dry weight as they could as that was what determined what they got paid. This is why dispensary weed is so terrible. The growers aren't concerned with the quality of the high. They're only concerned with bag appeal and volume. Yes, purple colored weed is nice to look at but I've smoked the shittiest, driest looking weed and got knocked on my ass.

Because of test results. Thc is up at 39% today. Back in the 90s stuff was testing in the mid 20s. Facts are facts

yes i know but to us that are old enough to have smoked the old stuff and new stuff we know that doesn’t mean much,.. hell right now most of these testing facilities are being taken to court for falsifying thc test results even for mold etc.. the high is obviously about an entourage effect.. all this breeding just breeds out stuff to gain thc?
experience from what i can remember we didn’t get much mexican brick or colombian gold and when we did it was junk,.. the thai weed, hawaiian, panama red, red haired sensi, etc was mostly in a way like doing acid or mushrooms, the high, taste etc is night and day from anything today,.
hey you believe whatever you want i’m just trying to tell you the truth and who ever else as the whole marijuana industry so far is based on non sense and lies, you know there’s really no such thing as indica and sativa?

I'd like to find some old genetics from the 70s-80s to see if it's as good as I remember it. Actually growing a supposed Acapulco Gold now. I recall Columbian Gold being good also. What I'd like to find is the early sensi. As I recall it was quite green and reeked of pine. Alas. What hath breeders wrought?

I just got back from Humboldt County, in my travels I went to a half dozen dispensaries, looking for seeds or actual skunk bud. The consensus I got from all of them was , “it’s gone”! Most disappointing!!!!!
