Hi,
I'm posting for someone-else so I don't have picture to post. This person has a large plant growing outdoors in the ground in a yard in southern Alberta. We haven't had frost yet, but where we are at it we could get a killing frost anytime in the next month. Given this plant only started flowering in early September, there's concern we could get a killing frost before it is ready to harvest. The owner was wondering how the plant would fair being transplanted into a large pot so it could be moved inside if we get some cold temperatures.
The plant is a Charlotte's Web (high CBD plant), photoperiod, and is about 5 feet tall. It was started in April or May. It would likely be transplanted into a 5-7 gallon pot so it would still be heavy, but could be moved inside if necessary and put under a grow light. We wondering if we do transplant it, would it be better to do it as soon as possible, or wait until a killing frost is in the forecast. The concerns are that the stress of transplanting it may kill it, or that the stress could turn it into a hermie and it would self-pollinate.
We may not get a killing frost until the Canadian Thanksgiving (Oct 12), but its almost certain we would get one by Oct 20. Given where we are at, it likely needs another 2 months before it is ready to harvest the frost will likely kill it before it is ready to harvest.
Any suggestions for what to do and how to do it, would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
