That was two plants. I harvested 8 so far with one lonely girl out in the pen still all by herself The rest are in the dry room I built in the barn.. Also had 3 mimosa and 2 bleu cheese. My 1st year growing and I'll end up with about 4lbs. I'm suddenly the favorite uncle of the family, go figure...Much love there fella excellent harvest i just love most all kush strains.![]()
So I ended up with 4lbs. 2 oz. from my 14 plants. All dried and cured in jars and mylar bags with humid packs. This is my 1st year growing so I'm pretty pleased with the results. This site was a great deal of help with the massive amount of information and experience of so many others. I used 5 gal grow bags in a 12'x12' fenced in pen to keep out 2 and 4 legged pests. Water and soil meters helped with setting proper ph and keeping the soil in the midrange of the measuring indexes. I used two 55gal plastic barrels laid horizontally with faucet taps in the large bung and was able to set ph to 6.5 approx using PH down before each watering. Don't use white barrels as they produce a lot of algae as I found out. Gallon milk jugs worked well for consistent and equal moisture and feeding levels all season(again midrange on the soil meter). Happy Frog was my soil for starting and the top half of the grow bags. For the lower half of the bag I made a mix of bagged garden soil, vermiculite, perlite, worm casings and bat guano, and bagged composted manure. Fox Farms, Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom were my fertilizers used every other watering as the meter indicated needed to maintain midrange nutrient levels. The grow bags were placed on top of heavy duty weed block so weeds were never an issue. I maintained a kill zone outside the pen with chemical insecticide for long term results that included spraying nearby trees to keep down moth and other pest populations. Inside the pen I used Harris Neem Oil to combat mold, fungus and bugs. A small compressor with a siphon aerosol sprayer let me fog the pen area several times a week or after each rainfall to keep the stoner bugs at bay and I suffered no insect damage at all and only about 4 thumbtip sized moldy buds. As I was fairly religious about removing yellowing leaves, pruning fan leaves and spacing for air flow this seemed to help also. The grow bags required extra effort to maintain proper moisture level but made overwatering due to heavy rainfall a non issue. They also made quick adjustments to ph and nutrient levels easier to achieve and I was able to rotate plant positioning in the pen throughout the season for equal sun exposure. For harvest time I followed the advice of many on here and used a jewelers loop to time each plants harvesting. About 25% amber trichomes seemed to be the trick judging by the buzz received from the 1st harvested plants. The leaves were all pretrimmed before I placed each plant in the dry room for 48 hours in their grow bag in the dark before cutting and hanging. I hung the entire plant. The dry room was 6'x6'x8' with a 2"x 2" wood frame covered with heavy black plastic with an osb floor raised 2" off the barns concrete floor. An air purifier along with a dehumidifier both rated for medium sized rooms eliminated the possibility of mold spores and kept rh at around 50%. I used two 100 cfm duct fans for exhaust at the top center of the room with one passive and one kinetic intake vent with hepa filters at the lower part on each end of the room. As the plants became ready for harvest over a 6 week period (late August to mid October the room proved large enough with no crowding. The dry room temp varied with outside air but stayed in the 60's and low 70's and drying was achieved in around 7 days. I grew Northern lights, Watermelon, Cookie Gelato, Bleu Cheese, Mimosa and O.G. Kush. I used a Staygrow 13" bud trimmer unit and was pleasantly surprised how well it worked and the labor savings in cleaning that many plants. I'm hitting on a bowl of Northern Lights as I write this and I have to say there is immense satisfaction in the results of my spring and summer labors and the votes of the other 5 stoners in the house agree with me. My nieces boyfriend had similar success with his 9 plants grown inground but had more bug and mold issues than I did but less labor time. Between us however our harvest volume will take care of everyone in the house until harvest time next year. The cost of materials for the pen, dry room and other infrastructure along with the cost of dirt, fertilizers etc. came to about $750 and with the price of an 1/8th oz at $50 in the weed dispersary it was a big financial win for me. As this was my 1st year growing I'm gonna claim shit luck combined with good intentions over expertise for the success of my efforts. But I also want to thank the seasoned veterans on this site for the expert advise contained in the all the threads from their years of experience. There was never a time when I went for an answer that several were not available from numerous members here. With the growing season over I will miss the sessions of listening to Gershwin and Etta James as the sun set while having a conversation with the girls as they readied for their rest time. I send hopes that everyone else had a prodigious harvest and a successful and enjoyable growing season.
