To crossbreed we need males for the pollen, but how do we know a male from a female? What I have found is that the sex is displayed after it has started flowering. We used regular seeds on two of our strains (Malana, and Moby Dick). What I see goes a little beyond just phenotypes. Out of 6 Malana seeds, 2 of them simply look different. I have noticed two distinct attributes in these regular seeds: short and bushy or tall and spaced out nodes. Can't help but feel there is a distinct difference between what may be male or not. My guess is tall and spaces out is the male. Same age

I think that's generally true, but it's also a characteristic of sativa-like phenotypes. Plants will also grow taller in low light.
^^^^ this this this lol. Boy plants grow taller, leggy plants happen with lack of light, sativas are lankier by nature.

I haven’t grown inside so I can’t speak to it, I’ve seen somewhere at least once that you can do 12/12 as seedlings to find the sex. then switch back. maybe reveg isn’t such a concern when they’re little

Males have balls at the stem and females have teardrops. Hermes are females who identify as males, so in their most masculine gesture they can muster, they throw a football at you. 🤣

With the set up, we have 20 plants (5 strains) and two 2kW LEDs. The only differences in any of the strains are the two Regulars, I see the same difference in the Moby Dick, as well. When they go into flower next week I'll update to see if they are indeed males.

yup, don’t know too much until then. Rumor has it if the little stipules (I think;little arm deals at the base of a leaf), criss cross it’s probably a female.
