Hey yall. I’m a week into flowering and thinking it might be time to defoliate and at least prune everything off below the trellis netting. You can see the light isn’t really hitting down there so will it really make a difference if I clean that up or not? Part of me feels like it’s a waste to cut it all off even if it is less quality than the upper stuff. Will it really put all the energy into the top instead? I wish I needed clones cause then at least I could use all the cutttings. But all the lower stuff will just end up In the trash.

If you're going to do any major defoliation, do it on or before week 3 of flower. After that, anything major is too stressful IMO.
I've seen hermies from defoliating to much.

If airflow and light penetration is an issue then go ahead and remove some.

What I like to do, once I have a little trimmed for air flow is to take each leaf I'm thinking about removing and move it out of the way before cutting them to see if it's going to increase light penetration enough to be worth cutting it off. If it doesn't do much for light penetration then I don't cut it.
