Hey fellow green thumbs
🪴
👍
,

My first run with a new light
💡
, Medigrow Sun v2 - 320w . In a 2x2 tent . This light is more for 4x4 or 3x3 so I'm running 40%.

When I initially measured the lights PPFD, Photone app
📲
reported 1850 PPFD . Then , a month or so ( and a phone update ) later , the Photone app measures PFFD at 580. I then try 3 more high end phones, all measures around 400-600 PPFD .
(Taking these PFFD values from photone with a pinch of salt )

Reviewing Medic Grow's website , The Grow Light ;

💡
Specs

Model: MINI SUN-2
Wattage: 320 Watts
PPFD (PAR Value): 2385μmol/m2/s @ 6‘’(15.2cm) in height
PPF(light output): 896 μmol/s
Efficacy: 2.8 μmol/J @277 AC

Not sure how to go about troubleshooting . I do not have any tools to see how many watts it is pulling from the wall.
⚡

On these screen shot below , the higher value has a ! mark ... Hoping some Photone Users can chime in.
Hopefully I'm overlooking something silly
🥺

Thanks for any input !

Are you using a diffuser with Photone? Are you setting the color temp/light type before taking readings? Are you on iPhone or Android? (The sensors on Android phones vary widely, I've heard.)

I am using the sensor on the phone ( Pixel 8a and OnePlus 9 ) running Android 14 . Set to LED . When Noticed the difference I then used another phone with android 14, using the phones camera . It was taken at the same height as well

They vary definitely, Just not sure if -1000 is normal swing or ...

I gave up on the cell phone apps. Never worked worth a flip on my iPhone 13 ProMax or the the wifes 22 Ultra or any of our older phones. Would calibrate them to Clear Sky Calculator online. They would read right for a use or three then be back to reading BS. Deceided to spend the coin and get a real ePar meter and moved on.

After finding this light test from CoCo for Cannabis . Then going back over manufacturers specs , I found this on Medic Grow's website.

PPF output ranging from 420 µmol/s to 1400 µmol/s. At 12 inches, the PPFD values reach up to 1151/1302/1720/2338 µmol/m²/s (150-500W)
The site had several PPFD going on. Since they have different wattage fixtures. When I glanced at this, I originally thought it was the dimmer settings. I have the 320w light. They state the PPFD for mine is 1720 umol , I imagine this would be at %100 power .

My dimmer is set at 40. Which CoCo tested PFFD at 420 umol/s and when dial is at 100 , the PFFD 1050 umol/s . ( See attached image )

In the end, Seems I miss understood Medigrow's page that explained PFFD value for light fixture wattage when purchasing. I am very new to this as well, So my ignorance taken into account on top of Photone app acting up.
