I would like to preface this thread by saying this is only my second outdoor grow, but I would say I have done a lot more reading than your average amateur botanist. I will be updating this thread weekly with notes, methods, theories and biweekly with photos and observations. I used chatgpt to write the grow diary template if you are wanting to do the same.

General Information

  • Strain Name: Unknown
  • Genetics/Type: Unknown, but due to the shape of the parent plant's leaves I would assume it is a sativa dominant strain.
  • Seed Source: Bag seed
  • Start Date (Germination): Soaked for 24 hours starting on the 31/01/2025, placed into wet paper towel in a ziplock bag on the 01/02/2025 for the following 36 hours.
  • Planting Date: Successfully cracked seeds sowed into peat pucks on the 02/02/2025
  • Grow Medium: Peat pucks for first week of seedling life, then transplanted to a mixture of Loam and Perlite once first set of true leaves has emerged.
  • Grow Method: Outdoor in custom soil filled plastic pots.
  • Lighting: The Sun, it is the middle of summer in Australia so plenty of long days available.

Growth Stages & Observations

Week 1 - Germination & Seedling

  • Date: 02/02/2025 - 03/02/2025
  • Observations: 75% successful pop rate with six of the original eight seeds soaked displayed signs of a taproot emerging. Five of these seeds had taproots of various sizes, with one of the six having a monster taproot about an inch and a half long approximately. I have high hopes for this one.
  • Watering/Fertilizing: Adding small amount of lukewarm filtered water to tray when peat pucks have visibly changed colour due to dryness.
  • Temperature/Humidity: Temps outdoor have been in the high 90s all week, peat pucks have been placed into plastic greenhouse out of direct sunlight to maintain humidity.
  • Notes: No signs of protrusion from soil yet, but has barely been 24 hours since sowing.

And that is all the information I have so far, feel free to check back in a couple days where I will hopefully have some photos for you to checkout :) Also feel free to introduce yourself in the comments and support me throughout this grow!

If you happen to notice me making any preventable mistakes during this grow, feel free to comment below with any advice you may have. I really would like this grow to be a collaborative effort amongst the community.

Currently this is the only liquid nute I have on hand, but I have bookmarked a whole bunch more including more npk, regular pk for bloom, and calmag also. I plan to get worm castings and other dry amendments if you have any other recommendations.

I plan to supplement with a low dose of seaweed based npk when the plants reach one month of age, it will be at this point I will transplant them into their final pots also.

I just realised that npk is expired gosh darn it lmao, I hope that it's still usable but it looks like I'm gonna have to get onto those other nutes sooner rather than later.

Looks like you’re at about the equivalent of mid to late July up here! You probably have a little more than a month before they start flowering! Just using Melbourne as a hours of daylight reference. Get those rascals moving.😁 Looking forward to seeing how you do!

I installed a supplemental light in the shed to maintain complete control of my outdoor photos throughout the year. Its been working well through the winter, when I want to flip them I just stop giving them supplemental. Haven't played during the summer yet but was thinking if I want a girl to flip in June I might need to get her Ready by cranking her to 20 hours before cutting her off.

Yeah, supplemental lighting is a way of life if you’re growing on the equator! Which I know he isn’t! But it can come in handy anywhere! And I’ve heard it doesn’t take much to keep them from flowering! Like a couple of lightbulbs hung over them and run long enough to extend the natural daylight, a couple of hours! But I don’t have any experience with it! If you’re gonna grow outdoors, photos, You better be aware of the light requirements! And I see a lot of people that don’t have a clue! And find out the hard way! Me the first couple of years! L O L! 🫣😞😁

I'm hoping that they'll stay in veg until at least the end of autumn. I'm not too sure on the specifics so you definitely could be right there. But in Aus our autumn days tend to be pretty long and warm. I'm hoping I can use that to my advantage.

looking forward to seeing it finish up
I was originally only going to do 2 plants, but I read up on the laws on growing near me and there's no difference between getting caught with two plants or six so fuck it I'll might as well go balls to the wall and grow a forest!

I might purchase one after I harvest this crop. This is a good idea but just can't afford even a 50w light ATM. This is more of a Viet Cong style grow as I've always wanted to do a proper crop by myself. Last time I tried to grow outdoor weed was in highschool and my mom completely took over the whole process the control freak lol.

Yeah I'm on the South Eastern Coast of South Australia, pretty far from the equator. Doesn't stop the weather from getting to 100 degrees for entire week's though lmao.

Well when I was getting started I had an indoor mindset and initially thought the pot store sold me auto clones because they flipped in August. 😂

I move my plants around in a way that probably seems weird and a lot of extra work but it's with purpose... but very easy to fuck up if I miss a move. At least it was until I made some adjustments on the light timer. Even my flowering girls get 2 extra hours of artificial light in December and January. Also not one to waste space, I keep garden plants through the winter too thanks to the shed light.

It's tricky with the lights her in South Aus because the second you start using grow lights the criminal charges start getting iffy. The fines for outdoor crops are much lower than indoor crops with hydro and lights since that counts as like manufacturing a commercial quantity of a controlled substance.

Outdoor is preferable for me one because it's more accessible and affordable, and two having a grow tent with hydro equipment and lights is viewed the same as having a meth lab in your house legally.

Here in the US my brother ran into that issue in Missouri where cultivation was a trafficking type of charge. He was able to wiggle out of it but he could have been looking at years. It all culminated from a dispute he had with a neighbor, who happened to be the town mayor.

I prefer outdoor because it costs nothing for the lighting. I only use supplemental lighting to fill in some growing gaps, chiefly a little extra light for flower girls around the Winter Solstice, and for keeping my photo plants in veg.

Damn dude imagine having that bad luck that the fucking mayor is your neighbour lmao. I tell ya what would've been awkward bringing in the groceries after that whole ordeal haha

I'd just like to note as well when the relative humidity of the greenhouse gets low I'll simply use a spray bottle to spritz water all over the internal surfaces to try and reintroduce some water back into the greenhouses cycle.

Thought it would be funny to mention those plants were blue dream indica from a bag seed, I ended up getting around a pound off two plants. Shit was so fire man
