Whatever happened , happened at the root zone
If it was a virus I’d expect the others to have been affected
My guess is you somehow got root rot on that plant

Any chance this particular plant sat in its own runoff for a long time?

My grow buddy is determined to keep it potted after removing most of the leaves and stating that the stem was still sturdy, and she might make a comeback... He has a hard time saying goodbye, but I'm hoping to inspect the roots and whatever else is inside the pot very soon though. I'm also eager to get it out in case it molds, or gives something to my other girls.

Honestly it's pretty unlikely we ever overwatered this girl, but I could see a drainage issue as I haven't figured out a good riser solution for the moment. We just had a plant almost die and come back when learning how to water correctly, and we are a bit more paranoid about overwatering than underwatering.

Regardless of what we did or didn't do at this point I have to assume this plant was not as resilient as her sisters because they are still happy, and have had the exact same treatment. My only thought is that we were underwatering her, and then after a BIG water some of the damaged roots turned rotten.

Keeping that one around is inviting disaster to the rest! Fabric bags sitting on a flat surface that holds water (container lids) is no bueno mi amigo! Remedy that, like, immediately if possible.

Yeah trust me I'm about to go toss the plant out myself, my grow buddy just gets really attached to these plants.

I'm already working on some risers for the pots as well just in case that was the issue for this one. 👍

Excellent! I get the attachment, and I put a lot of heart and soul into growing, but logic and reason still has to balance out the emotions. Balance is yet another thing Mr. Miyagi taught me.

So either these rots disintegrated before we got to do the autopsy or there just never were any to start with? Either way from growing these plants and others I have to say these are some of the wimpiest roots I've ever seen? We follow the method of watering directly around the stalk for the first week and then watering out to promote root growth downwards, but there's just nothing here regardless? Like there was no root ball unless they were hair thin.
