Was decarbing OG Kush in the basement oven at 240F for 40minutes. Timer went off, shut off timer in the middle of something.

Well an hour later dawn breaks over marble head…oh fuck.

Was planning on using it for tincture. Should I toss it? What’s the consequence of the over-decarb?

11gms of weed in the ongrok steel container.

Effectively all youve done is skew the THC/cbn ratio a little more toward the cbn side of things. I actually prefer this.

itll still work fine, just keep it toward the second half of a day. Itll prob be a little heavier and sleepier feeling thanks to to a little extyra cbn being created from the heat exposure.

If youve ever compared the same budder being used in some no bake deserts vs baked ones like cupcakes or something, the difference will be similar.

You can also get around it being a bit sleepier by using it in no bake recipes like oatmeal cookies or something. In just about any normal recipe the budder is going to get cooked twice by the time its consumed anyway

Depending on your own taste, theres a very real chance youll like the overcooked stuff more. Especially if you got a sore back. CBN is way more effective in my experience for pain then THC is.

Good ole double post.

my favorite budder is always super old, naturally air decarbed popcorn buds, multiple strains mixed together. As many as possible. Personally i love having extra CBN in my edibles. Theyre gigglier and more comfy even if they can be a bit sleepier. And ill often overcook my budder on purpose if the material isnt already really old.

you can dose them heavier and get a lot more baked without getting uncomfortable or anxious too. personally i dont even bother eating budder made with fresher material unless it was in the cooker for a good while. I dont actually usually like it otherwise. Which is interesting because smoked flower i MUCH prefer the sativa side of things.

TL:DR its def not ruined, and if you are like me, you may actually like it even more now. Itll be stonier, gigglier, kick in faster, be less anxious feeling, and wisk you off to sleep land much more smoothly at the end of it, even if bite for bite its not quite as strong now. it is likely my opinion that what you effectively did, was "fix" your budder by leaving it an extra hour 🤣

Well if the time was closer to around 2 hours, then what you've made is a CBN batch. First, any of the CBN that was present was decarbed, and then the THC that was decarbed broke down further into more CBN with the additional time. What I think you'll wind up with is a tincture that will be perfect for taking at bedtime.

I usually use a pressure cooker with sealed jars to decarb.

Here is an image of the end toasted product.

Total time in the oven is 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Temp inside the closed can is more like 230F last time I measured temps.

It’s mostly Indica

Sativa 25% Indica 75%
19% THC, Medium CBD

No edibles, just dropper in some juice and down the hatch. Calming affect on the wife’s anxiety and amazingly drops her BP too normal levels which is a plus.

Given the data above what do you think the THC/CBD/CBN ratio is going to be compared to normal 30minutes de carb and that overcook?

I thought CBN content was pretty low like maybe 1%?

Of course wife is nervous about taking anything different.

What kind of pain relief to you find?
Wife says the normal stuff helps with muscle pain but not the disc back pain.

it takes a lot longer then an extra hour of heat for a full cbn conversion. There will be noticably more, but its not going to be a total conversion at 240f. it wont even be half. CBN doesn't decarb itself per se, beyond that in the breaking down process its just basically bits of nitrogen carbon and hydrogen and whatnot. Its just an oxidation product of delta 9 THC. And heat isnt as good at doing it as just plain time and oxygen exposure. (Otherwise youd be getting predominantly CBN when you smoke, but that really only happens if the weed is really old, and thats because the thc has already decarbed, as well as oxidized)

an extra hour isnt going to make the biggest amount of difference. Id leave cocnut oil in a crock pot all day longsometimes and it only gets a little stonier. Thats about 215f.

Even at 300f for 3 hours, pure distillate in O2 rich environment, its only like a 50% conversion or so IIRC. You can leave centrifuge purified distillate in a hermetically sealed environment at 300f for 24 hours and there will still non meaningless amounts of delta 9 on a spectrograph.

But yea, its gonna be stonier then otherwise for sure.

I should add in im not disagreeing with ninjadogma. Im just more or less adding on.

i find the weed thats got super old while stored properly to be the best stuff for back pain. Like a year or two old. Stuff with naturally aged in CBN. I find that to be the best stuff for edibles for pain as well. it wont get ya all blasted like fresh stuff, but its warm, comfy, and smiley. Great for back pain and sleeping comfortably.

Let her try your overcooked budder, bet she'll like it for her disc pain. But be aware, thinking there is any cannabinoids that treat that kind of pain super effectively is to lie to yourself a bit. Pain from inflammation and tension is one thing, pain from physical damage, cannabis really just seems to change my relationship to the experience of that kind of pain, it doesnt do much of anything about my bulging discs, theyre still theyre, still bulging and will continue to do so unfortunately.

On days im struggling to move around because of it, i take kratom because it actually treats the disc pain. And thats something i dont recommend someone start doing either. I can smoke a bowl and force myself up and doing stuff. But it doesnt do anything about the pain unless i get myself so blasted on edibles im useless either way hahahaha.

Stoners are positive people that love their plant, but its unfortunately not the be all end all for pain. My mom would probably be on opiates without it, but it still doesnt treat her pain directly. Her spine is basically held together by steel at this point though. I dont think its the cannabis keeping her off painkillers, its her stubborn southern attitude doing that.

some uncommon honesty:

The people who say cannabis is great for back pain, are the people with sore lower back muscles, not bulging and slipped discs in my own personal, real world and direct experience. Even the best strains i have for my back pain simply change my internal opinion of the pain temporarily, they dont treat the pain directly at all. It is very much still there directly affecting my daily life. Mom's too. Cannabis does not make the spasms that suck the air out of my lungs and bring me to my literal knees on the verge of tears, then vanish as quickly as they popped up any less intense or infrequent. It doesnt do anything at all for that, not that ive personally noticed, or that anyone i know personally, in my day to day life, with similar issues has noticed. When there is legitimate, phsyical damage to your spine. Your options are genuinely just : Suck it up and stay stoned, take pain meds, or have surgery and continue sucking it up and smoking, or taking pain meds. And it sucks, but it is what it is.

Hi, im the local blunt-truth guy, i think. No weed pun intended.
