Im going with the jacks 20-20-20 for a while and im going to add some of the green leaf cal-mag. Is it worth getting a tomato specific feed?
Really any close NPK would work mostly, 4-4-4 / 5-4-6 / 4-6-5 I just like the tomato because it tends to have heavier calcium

I have jacks 20-20-20 on hand as well I just avoid it (it’s not that it’s horrible or anything) but now I just use the organics and, I dig a hole the size of a 5 gallon bucket and amend that with 5 tablespoons (I have a big scooper I use a full scoop per hole) then I usually mix in a bunch of leaves from my compost pile, then plant in, I usually add a dusting of bone meal after the first month with another sprinkle of the tru and maybe a bit of fish bone meal for some spare cal

During early veg the first 2-3 weeks I’ll water with Alaska fish fertilizer about a tbs per gallon

Other than that I’ll mix about 4 cups of earthworm castings into a 5 gallon jug of water and put in the sun for a few hours and stir then I’ll dilute that out 1 gallon per 3 gallon Chaplin sprayer and water in the plants

After the first month I stop watering All together, the root zone is big enough to find water and the plastic holds down any moisture from Rain for extended periods

I dont know if its true but i heard if you use epson salt and other hard sintetics it fucks up the living soil? Any of it true or just myth?

I have recently looked into this as I was saying this exact thing. As an amendment for a purpose and short term it will not damage the balance of the biome.
Now if you take your water only OF/HF organic grow and switch to Jacks 321 it will no longer be an organic grow with all the chemistry that entails.
Research did not specify how long or what strength will force the change but I came across 14 posts that had someone put epsom salts in an organic grow as a jump on a nutrient deficiency with no adverse effects. Every single one using an Epson Salt add for cal-mag had turn around much faster than my root add of cal-mag to my own last grow
And 3 that did not address the issue but did not harm the grow. All 3 of these grows looked to be overwater events that someone was throwing the kitchen sink at.

Epsom salts are totally fine to use in adequate ammounts with microorganisms. The problem is over use, they are salts as the name indicates. Any kind of salt accumulation is bad for microorganisms, which also happens way more often with synthetics. If you dont wanna go organic and you wanna have microorganisms you need to choose bio-mineral fertilizers. Theyre not organic but theyre not salts made in a lab either, theyre collected from natural processes, microorganism and geologically related. They not only do not harm the pop but they help it. Azomite or volcanic rock is a good bio-mineral fertilizer that boosts microorganism population. Bio-minerals are also compatible with and often used in organic grows and fertilizers.

Many brands have bio-mineral fertilizers but if you ask my favorite is sensi ph perfect from AN. Cheap and super complete with calmag, all key chelated minerals, sulfur and humic acids just in the NPK base A+B. They feed microorganisms too. I think at this point they should start sponsoring me *cough cough*

Not trying to hijack your living soil thread @Mikedin but just moved em all to the big bed. 2 weeks ago I top dress with volcanic rock dust, craft blend, neem and karanja, gypsum, compost and worm castings. Chop and dropped my cover of clover, mustard and barley. Got my blumat drippers put back together and off we go. Appreciate the thread if you see any gaps or improvements let me know homie. Really enjoying this thread, brought me back to the forum.

It’s actually not a salt at all, it’s magnesium sulphate. I believe the name comes from its appearance rather than chemical makeup. Can fact check that and confirm but I’m about 99% no salt in there…

I was refeering to all mineral salts. Another one that can be bad if used in excess is potassium silicate as you can easily add to much and it will form crystals (again, also called salts).
Synthetic or also called salt based fertilizers will crystalize in your soil if there's excess of them and not enough moisture and will increase the osmotic pressure in the soil, which basically means that it will prevent your roots and your microorganisms from hydrating properly and they will die. (Roots will be able to tolerate it way better than the microorganisms but still you dont want too many mineral salts in your roots, even if they dont die it will interfere).
Aditionally there's a difference in between epsonite (naturally ocurring epsom salts) and epsom salts made in a lab. Epsonite contains other trace minerals while synthetic epson salts are pure. Both are safe to use in adequate ammounts and if they are unadulterated.

☝️☝️☝️☝️

Agree, problem with epsom is people over use it, and like anything it’ll build up in your soil over time, and you don’t want to “flush” living soil, Langenbrite has up to 20% available mag I used to to use epsom but am planning to use lang only in the living soil I think, plus it’s already an ingredient in the craft blend

Hell yeah! Looking on point! I really gotta get a bed I love how the look and can only imagine what I could do with one haha

Share anytime that’s what I made this topic for!

Im tripping out on the terps here .. starting to get bubblegum.. 😐 that right?
The kahunas?

Yes! I did pass through a bubblegum phase!

At one point I likened it bazooka bubblegum haha

Each pheno kinda varies, kahuna 2 leaned more twords a Hawaiian Punch and you could still taste that grape Frostette threw at it, kahuna 3 came in with the fruity mix but with a heavy gassy grape at the end (why I chose her haha)

Great information thanks homie… I’ve done a lot of research on them and didn’t know most of that I appreciate the education…

😂😂😂 I thought I was going crazy... Had to ask, alright, good to know. 💯 I checked on them on my lunch today, and on first wiff... "Bubblegum" !? 😂 So I "might" be getting some gassy grape later, or Hawaiian punch... COPY.

Desolve epson salt in your pump sprayer. I’ve top dressed my bed with epson salt. Don’t get me wrong I keep it to very small amounts.
