The reasoning for the fabric pots is due to my climate! It’s extremely hot and dry here all year! Those pots have to do dual duty! They have to keep the root cool through evaporation, and they have to hold enough moisture to supply the plant for transpiration, which cools the plant itself! If you can keep those two trains running on the track you will do well! The evaporation and the transpiration trains! But in order to do that you need to upsize your pot! I don’t like anything less than 35 gallon! That’s what works for me! Barely! Lol! Plastic pots have a tendency to overheat and get root bound! They don’t work in my neck of the woods! The pots are cheap! It’s filling them with ocean forest that can cost a little! But you reuse the soil and when you average it out over four or five years, it’s not a big deal either! I don’t worry about ants! Ants will be ants! I’ve never had them damage a plant! But I do elevate my pots on a couple of pieces of PVC for the first 3/4 of veg! Just so the bottom of the pot is exposed and can contribute to an even dry back of the whole thing! Wet, dry cycles are Paramount! So I’m a perlite whore also! The cheap 4 cubic feet small per light for about 25 bucks works fine! I use a lot of it! It’s my best friend!
maybe you can use some of this information and maybe you can’t! But Mickey Mouseing things usually doesn’t get you very far! I learned it all the hard way!
and a 35 gallon pot is considered pretty small in the world of outdoor! The big boys use some big pots! I think you can get them up to 1000 gallons! But when you get up into that territory a lot of people make their own!

Actually the OG Kush I have in the 5 gal bucket outside has been my top performer, it has really thrived! I haven't started a grow diary yet but perhaps next year when I apply more of the things I've learned, have a little better setup and feel a little more confident with what I'm doing.
Very fun hobby keeps one thinking about " next year or next grow" . Using the sun to grow is just fun and a nail biter between weather and bugs it's real work some folks think it's just toss a seed and forget it. Not these days with me i fight every summer for a decent outdoor grow spraying with BT or hosed them off. Outdoor is not easy.
Yep it's not easy gardening outdoors these days. Even my tomatoes weren't as plentiful this yr. Last year I had a thousand green ones when frost hit. This year I've only had enough for 5 batches of salsa.
When partakers see they can grow some thing tastier better than dispo weed it's a clear choice. Lol! Good for you

Mine has a ways to go yet, has buds springing out all over. Around here it can take all the time it wants, weather will be great.
