September 9th update:

Coming along nicely! Too busy to write a chapter right now LOL but I’m happy to see and smell the early fruits of my labour. This one Cactus Breath pheno is way ahead of the game and its sisters aren’t far behind. Brace for lots of bud p*rn pics in the next few weeks. 😝 need to get a ladder… I can’t even reach the top colas to take a pic. We have the perfect flowering weather forecasted for the next 10 days and then I’ll be biting my nails watching the temperatures as we move closer to October.

Starting to get frosty πŸ€€β€¦.

The forest along with the rest of the garden… Brassicas and sweet peas have been chopped and dropped. Pollinator corridor slowly fading. Cucumbers, peppers, corn and sunflowers still hanging on. Grasshoppers annoying the eff out of me. πŸ˜†

September 29th update:

Croptober is almost here!

It’s looking like 4 of the Cactus Breath phenos will be the first finishers. Afghan Kush coming up right after and White Widow trailing waaaaay behind. White Widow has proven to be tall and lanky and not fattening up as much as I’d like. I’ve heard from other growers that they experienced the same with the strain so I’m glad I’m not alone on that one.

Weather is generally good for the next 10 days. A week of on-and-off rain followed by a final
blast of sun before the cold weather really sets in. I’ll likely have to cover some of the late finishers with greenhouse plastic.

Feed wise, I incorporated some bone meal into the soil about 3 weeks ago for slow release Phosphorus. Gave them some hydrolyzed fish last week and my homemade Potassium-heavy FPJ this week.

The hydrolyzed fish I randomly found at my local hardware store and figured out you can use it as a complete fertilizer program along with alternating Seaweed. (1 week fish, 1 week seaweed). It’s expensive stuff but I’ll likely invest in that next year to use in place of the three part Micro-Grow-Bloom I was using in the seedling stage and early veg.

My homemade FPJ was made from banana peels, marigold flowers, a little bit of nettle and lambs quarter and brown sugar. Fermented for 2 weeks. Came out really syrupy but smelled like sweet banana. Possibly a little bit too nitrogen heavy for this stage of growth but I figured the plants could use the extra potassium.

Water wise, plants were easily drinking 10L a day during the early September heatwave and the weeks following as they transitioned to full flower. I’ve found with the cooler weather they have slowed a bit with their drinking but I like to keep the soil moist to feed the secondary roots with a good dry down here and there.

Pest wise, my garden was a haven for Cabbage Moths (I had brassicas and catmint growing - nectar and food for them… unintentionally created a full service resort for them πŸ˜‚). Since removing the brassicas they have disappeared and no caterpillars that I’ve seen. Grasshoppers and leaf hoppers are still kicking around but not nearly as bad as they were a couple of weeks ago. It got to the point where I would walk on the grass and hundreds of grasshoppers would disperse. Surprisingly the leaf hoppers did more damage than the grasshoppers did … a bit of β€œhopper burn” here and there. Thrips are busy living their best life in the marigolds in the bed adjacent to the girls. There’s a big population of Minute Pirate bugs in my garden so I have a feeling they are taking care of business. My little soldiers.

We’ve had a bit of dew and no signs of budrot yet. With the rain and cold coming, I will be monitoring for PM and shaking out the buds each morning. Once the rain stops, I’ll give them a foliar Hypochlorous Acid. Still defoliating here and there but nothing major as I want the plants to focus on bud development. The colder weather has definitely helped with the fattening of the buds and I’m finally seeing some yellow and purple on the fan leaves. I’ll mulch the roots heavily with straw this week.

Had a little quick-dry tester of the Cactus Breath and the only way I can describe the high is β€œZING!” Super heady and jittery and great for late night conspiracy rabbit-holes. But not quite what I’m looking for. Trichomes are cloudy throughout. I’ll be waiting for 5-10% amber.

Still deciding where I’m going to dry. My choices are an uninsulated addition to my trailer or the shed. Humidity would be a problem in the addition (sometimes gets to 80%RH at night) but maybe it will be a bit dryer when it gets cold. Might have to invest in a dehumidifier to get that 60/60 sweet spot. The shed would be less out of my control and probably cold af. No power in there so that’s an issue. Might try a few different spots.

This is becoming a bit of a book so I’ll wrap it up here. At this point, all of my veggie crops are finished and my canning and preserving is done. Now it’s time to chill and gather my energy for harvest, drying and trimming. Happy growing y’all!

Happy Croptober everybody! :)

Haven’t had time to pop on here and give an update. I’ve been stuck in trim jail LOL soooo much green to process. Lbs and lbs of beautiful bud and trim. I’ve been going since Oct 6th harvesting and hanging in batches, finishing the dry in cardboard boxes because of a lack of space. I’ve made many mistakes but also learned so much. It’s true what they say that it’s 50 grow/50 dry and cure to get good bud. Truly don’t have the energy to write it all out right now (I need sleeeeep haha) and it’s my son’s birthday this weekend so I want to make sure I’m present for that! Of course, the last 1/3 of my crop is ready to be trimmed all at the same time. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

I’ll be sure to report back when I’m finally out of trim jail. πŸ˜†

No. All hand trimmed. Although I’m being sort of picky with popcorn and larf to save time. πŸ˜† first 2/3 took me a week straight trimming.
I have a small hippy greenhouse i threw all my pots inside after i harvested and left the popcorn buds on them. Well heck i went out to look at the plants thinking they'd be all grey with mold but nope them little marbles were perfect and i pinched off about 4 cups worth of them. BonusπŸ€£πŸ˜‰ i reuse my soil for next summer too.

Wow !! That is A LOT !! Gorgeous plants and great scenery at least while you’re trimming πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
The first few days were kind of sad as we had some of the most beautiful Autumn days and I was stuck inside with my snips looking longingly out the window 😩 but I got a little break before last of the crop was ready to trim… never been happier to work on garden clean up!! Ahhhh fresh air
